I was hot and I had had enough! Everything that could go wrong went wrong today! First of all I slept through my alarm and missed the train, which meant I was late for work for the 3rd time this week. Next, while rushing to work my heel broke on my new shoes, and I twisted my ankle. I limped into work already flustered. I thought I was going to get through the day with out the ominous third thing happening, when I lost a very important file for the law firm, one that got me into serious trouble.
Hi, sorry for complaining so much but I had to tell someone! The day really was about to get better for me, or worst depending on how you look at it. My name is Toko and I live in central London with my family of four. I have a very loving husband, and two beautiful daughters, Jasmine and Selina. Selena is away at University. We live two train stations from work, of which you may have guessed is a Prestigious Law Firm. With the file lost, and having not felt lower since I left Japan, I started the journey home.
On the way home I called into a local shoe shop and handed my shoe over for repair, and brought a new pair. Shoe shopping always made me feel better, but this had little effect on my mood. I moped along the Central London streets, head bowed, looking at the pavement, making people move out of my way. I am of small build, and am normally very careful not to bang into anyone, but today I made it everyone else's problem as I walked to the station.
I got on the train in a trance and in no time at all I was unlocking the door to our house. I remembered little of the journey home, but felt relieved to be walking through the door. Once through the door an aroma of dinner cooking teased my taste buds and lifted my spirits a little. I could smell the rich aroma of Thai cooking, the spices, and herbs smell encompassing the house.
Thai cooking was my daughter's specialty, and she was very very good at it! She came out of the kitchen at the end of the passageway, and looked at me. "Mum, what's wrong?" Said Jasmine. I must have been wearing my emotions on the outside. "Nothing dear, just a few things went wrong today, that is all" I said. "Come here and sit down," she said. Jasmine pointed to a chair in the lounge. I walked past her, and as I did she removed my coat. "I am cooking your favourite tonight Mum" she said, "Seen Dad is away and all, I thought I would treat you." I had forgotten all about Michael being away, and I burst into tears. Jasmine knelt down beside my chair and placed her arm around me. She always understands, as she seemed to know I just required a good old-fashioned cry. My tears wet her white blouse, which I saw when I pulled my face away from her shoulder. "There, there, that's better now isn't it? You must have had the most terrible day Mum." I told her everything that went wrong, and she just knelt there and listened. It felt so good to release all my tension.
After a few minutes Jasmine left me and went back to work in the kitchen. I sat there and listened to her tell me about her day. "There" she said. "Another 15 minutes and it will be ready," as she walked into the lounge with a glass of red wine in each of her hands. She handed me my glass and placed hers on the coffee table next to the chair. "I know what will make you feel better," she said, "A soothing shoulder and neck massage." With that she stood behind me and placed her hands on my shoulders, gently rubbing the muscles that had been so tense since the moment I woke up this morning. Her hands felt wonderful gliding into my muscles, and around my neck. I could feel the tensions running out of my body.
I was awoken fifteen minutes later to the soft voice of Jasmine. "Wakey wakey, rise and shine," she said. "I have been massaging you for some time now Mum. Dinner is ready, go sit yourself at the table and I will bring it to you." As she helped me up I couldn't help but notice how wet I had become below, and Jasmine noticed it on the leather chair. "Don't worry about it Mum, I'll clean it later," she said. I could feel myself going red, but she just grinned and led me to the table.
The table was already set, and two candles were burning in the centre; it looked wonderful! I saw Jasmine walk past the door with a cloth in her hands. She was in the lounge wiping up my little mess. I was confused at what I saw next, and at the time wrote it off as tiredness. Jasmine while walking back past seemed to have the cloth held up to her nose? I only recall it now as I write, if only I had realised where it was going to lead.
