Here I am, getting off the exit, only about a mile from the old homestead, my mind going a hundred miles an hour. Since hearing the news from Holly, my Woom(b)ie, that her Wife, Fancy (Frances) is expecting twins, our twins, a product of a plan to lure me into fathering my twin sisters baby during our Fall Family Retreat. Although at first, I was a little unnerved/uneasy the way it all happened, the last week or so, I have come accept the news, and look forward to being in the kids life as their favorite Uncle (Daddy) as much as possible.
As I pull into the driveway, I notice that someone is looking out the front door. Before I could even put the truck in park, Holly came rushing out the front door. As I opened my door, she had her arms tightly around my neck. The boys grabbed their gear out of the bed, headed into the house. When she lets go, we walk around the back of the truck to get my gear.
She said we needed to talk, (quickly) first she wanted to know 'how I was' and 'how I felt'. Pulling no punches, I told her at first I was a little disturbed on how things played out in the mountains. But, in the week or so since I found out about the twins, I was excited that she and Fancy were going to experience being 'Mommas'. She explained that they were going to announce to everyone at dinner this evening, reminding me that only 3 of us would ever know the secret.
Once inside, I made my rounds for Handshakes and Hugs, when I got to Fance, the hug lasted a little longer, she whispered in my ear, ' thank you for not being angry with us, I love you'. Might I add, the way she was dressed, you couldn't even tell she was just about 3 months pregnant.
At dinner time, we got the younguns' fixed up and to the 'kids table', then the Adults went thru the line and fixed our plates and found our way to the table. As I started to say grace, Woom(b)ie told me she would do it. After thanking for the Meal and Great family, she added, 'Please nourish the babies that Frances is carrying'.
