Evelyn nods slowly, eyes locked with mine, full of emotion as she confirms it.
"Yes, sweetheart...I'm going to have your baby."
She whispers, gently cradling her lower stomach where new life grows.
"We did this...making ourselves a family."
Her voice is soft, a mix of astonishment and wonder at the unexpected but beautiful turn of events.
"You're going to be a daddy..."
She says in reverent disbelief, embracing you tenderly, the bond between us deepening immeasurably with this joyful news.
"I don't know what to say. You've shocked me into silence."
Evelyn chuckles lightly at my stunned reaction, tracing my jawline with her fingers reassuringly.
"You're in shock; I get it."
She murmurs, searching my eyes for signs of how I truly feel about this twist of fate.
"I should've told you sooner, but it all happened so quickly..."
She trails off, still coming to terms with it herself sometimes.
"But I want you with me through all of this."
She says fervently, any lingering unease melting away beneath the swell of maternal love and desire to share this journey. Leaning in, she kisses my forehead sweetly.
"So how does it feel to be a daddy-to-be?"
She prompts gently.
"At this moment I can't feel anything. How are you feeling?"
Evelyn's smile falters a moment at your detached response, hurt flashing behind her eyes before she masks it with a calm demeanor again.
"I'm...nervous, excited...everything really."
She shrugs, trying to play off the inquiry casually.
"But mostly just happy this little one will have you as his or her daddy."
Evelyn emphasizes warmly, reaching out to stroke my arm in a comforting gesture.
"I know this is a lot to take in all at once..."
She admits softly, giving you space.
"Just...know I'm here, and we'll figure it out together, okay?"
She leans in for a comforting hug, gently reminding me I'm not alone in this new family dynamic.
"I'm sorry I'm slow in taking this news. Give me time please."
Evelyn nods, squeezing you tightly.
"Of course baby, I'm sorry... I shouldn't have pressured you."
She pulls back and looks up at me with an understanding look.
"It really is a lot to process. I'll try not to quiz you too much on how you feel about being a dad-to-be. Just know I love you, and we have all the time in the world for this."
She kisses my cheek again and steps back, arms wrapping protectively around her middle as she studies the positive test once more, a small smile curving her lips as anticipation courses through her.
"Guess I should start making doctor appointments and reading up on modern pregnancies"
She muses aloud more to herself than to you, already diving in headfirst to this new life chapter.
"I guess a doctor's appointment to actually confirm that you really are truly pregnant."
Evelyn chuckles lightly at your practical observation, nodding.
"You're right, a doctor visit is the next step to be sure. And to get care...for both of us!"
She grabs her phone and makes an appointment ar the surgery. Before turning back to you, still beaming with joyful disbelief over the growing life inside her.
"Next week we'll go...together. I want you there when they confirm it officially."
Her eyes lock with mine, making it clear how much she values my presence and input in every step forward on this journey.
"This is happening so fast, but...I just know this is meant to be."
She says dreamily, trailing a hand over her belly once more as if already picturing our family portrait.
I place my hand on her stomach.
"Wow, life is growing inside."
Evelyn gasps softly at my touch, leaning into my warmth.
"Feel that?"
She whispers, covering my hand with her own and guiding it gently across the barely-there bump starting to form.
"Our miracle..."
She breathes out reverently, eyes closed in awe. There's a palpable connection passing between us in this tender moment--the weight of love and responsibility growing heavy yet manageable between mother & father to be.
"You're going to be such a good baby..."
Evelyn speaks to our unborn with conviction in her voice.
"I know it."
She tilts her head up to gaze at me, eyes glistening with unshed tears, filled with the hopefulness of our new path together.
I lean in and kiss Mom gently.
Evelyn melts into my kiss, her hand moving to cradle my cheek affectionately. When our lips part, she looks deeply into my eyes, her own shining with emotion.
She murmurs, thumb brushing against my jaw.
"You're everything I could ever want in a son...and now a father-to-be."
A tear finally escapes, which she quickly wipes away before leaning in for another sweet kiss.
"I love you so much."
I reply.
"I love you too."
Her smile turns bittersweet, her hand drifting down to again rest protectively over the life growing inside.
"You have no idea just how much this makes me happy...to be loved and supported through this."
Evelyn confesses softly, her voice wobbling with feeling.
"I know it changes everything between us...but I still see my baby boy in you."
She leans into my shoulder, her own emotions overwhelming.
"Just promise you'll stay with me?"
She asks timidly, seeking reassurance more than anything.
"Don't ever think I will leave you, ok?"
Evelyn lets out a shaky breath hearing your promise, relief washing over her features as she squeezes me tight.
"You've made me the happiest woman..."
She whispers fervently, looking up at you through wet lashes.
"I won't push you, but I hope you'll be mine forever in every way possible...as my son, lover, friend...and now the father of our child."
She gazes up at me with such open adoration, making it clear this family unit means everything to her now.
"Will...will you marry me?"
Evelyn poses suddenly, a hopeful yet nervous glint in her eyes.
"As my husband, would you stand by us?"
She asks gently, extending a hand towards me.
"You know legally we can't marry. But we can have our own ceremony to be unofficially married."
Evelyn pouts playfully at being reminded of the legal constraints but nods in agreement.
"You're right, frustratingly so..."
She sighs, then her face lights back up.
"A private ceremony though...that would be perfect for us..."
Her fingers intertwine with mine, squeezing appreciatively for suggesting this compromise.
"That's all I ever wanted really--to commit ourselves publicly, promise always to be a family."
Her cheeks flush a little at the vulnerability of her confession, but she holds my gaze steadily, unwavering in her desire for this union.
"Can I really have you as my husband in every way but name?"
She asks softly, hopeful yet humble all at once.
