This story features one of the secondary characters in another series of mine, Just the Six of Us. It's not necessary to have read it first, but it might help for clarification purposes. As with all of my stories, the story will be established before we get to very much sex. Although there are a few flashbacks to sex in this chapter, there is nothing of the caliber that my longtime readers are used to. All characters involved in sexual situations are over 18, and all of this work is mine. No one else has permission to reproduce or sell it. Get in touch with me through my profile.
Enjoy!

Untethered
Chapter 1
Emily crept down the hallway to her dad's room. She listened quietly outside the door. "Why, Christine," she heard from the room. She sighed and lowered her head. She felt so bad for her father, still mourning the loss of his wife, her mother. Christine Davis hadn't died however, she'd left, only calling to tell him that she was leaving after she'd packed. It had been an out of the blue thing for him, too. She loved her father, but he could be a bit dense sometimes. There's no way he could have seen this coming. He was a die-hard romantic and a very loving man, but her mother had always been a bit distant.
She'd been very religious, and always quick to judge. Sure, Emily was biased now, but she knew the facts. Her mother had insisted they go to church every Sunday, rain or shine, made them pray before meals, and would lose her mind when someone swore in her presence. She didn't exactly treat him like crap, but she wasn't a very loving woman. Emily got the same cold treatment that her father did, but she didn't rely on her as much as he had. She frowned in defeat when she realized she couldn't really do anything to ease his pain.
She quietly crept back to her room and shut the door, offering a quick prayer for her father. Climbing back in the bed, she stared up at the ceiling and thought back over the previous year and sighed. It seemed so long ago now, and she felt like such a different person.
*****
A little over a year ago:
Her dad checked the oil in the car three times before he let her climb in. Her mother fussed over her a little bit, more than she'd expected in fact. Her car was packed to the brim with her clothes. She kissed her dad on his cheek and hugged him. He wrapped his arms around her and then she heard him start to cry, just the slightest bit. That did it.
"Oh Daddy," she said, wiping her own tears away. "I promise, I'll be okay."
"I know, I know. I'm just gonna miss you, but I'm so proud of you," he squeezed her one final time before releasing her.
She hugged her mother, who had tears in her eyes of her own. "Mom," she said, brushing more tears away.
"Shh, don't," her mother said, hugging her tighter. "I'll just lose it."
Emily smiled and nodded, and then kissed her mom on the cheek and turned towards her car.
"Watch for cops," her dad said as she climbed inside. She nodded.
"You have your Taser?" her mother asked for the hundredth time.
"Yes, mom," she replied, patting the small case next to her. "I love you guys, call me whenever you want."
"Love you kiddo," her dad said. "Drive safe and call us when you get there."
"Bye guys, love you," she called and started her car, pulling out of the driveway.
She leaned over and clicked on the radio. "There Goes My Life," by Kenny Chesney was playing on the radio. "Awww, crap," she said, tearing up again.
The trip was relatively uneventful, but long. Eventually she arrived and got settled in to her dorm room. It was tiny, one person barely being able to live there comfortably. She had a suite-mate though, not a roommate, so that was a good thing. She'd always been more comfortable by herself. That first semester, she spent a lot of time just hitting the books and studying. She went to Campus Ministries on Sundays and Wednesday nights, and then to a few student functions. She didn't really mind being alone, but it did give her time to think about Mike, and wonder how he was doing. They'd been a couple in high school, but nothing serious had ever happened with him, though she was sure that she would've if he'd wanted to. He was a good guy, through and through, and he tended to take care of his older sisters. Maybe when she went back for summer break, she'd see if he wanted to rekindle what they had.
She was at a Wednesday night bible study session when she met Shawn. He was a handsome guy, obviously from California. He was a sophomore, and he had sun bleached hair, shoulder-length and was well tanned. He played guitar for the little group while they sang some religious songs and he flashed her a wide smile every so often.
They grabbed coffee afterward after he'd convinced her that he was a decent fellow. She smiled when she thought about the Taser she kept in her purse.
He bought her a hot chocolate, grabbing one for himself when they got to the coffee place.
"I thought you liked coffee," he said.
She shook her head. "I thought you did," she replied.
He laughed. "Well crap, this didn't turn out right did it."
She smiled. "Oh it's fine. Hot chocolate is one of my favorites."
He smiled and scooted into the seat next to her.
She playfully scooted away. "I don't know if I like you sitting that close to me," she ribbed.
He smiled. "I just don't want you getting cold."
After they finished talking for awhile, they went for a walk and he asked if he could take her to dinner. She nodded and agreed.
They'd been dating for a month before he'd tried to do anything besides kiss her. They were making out in her bed after watching a movie and he ran a single finger across one of her breasts, testing the waters.
She smiled and sighed softly, feeling her nipple respond. They'd talked about how she was still a virgin, and how at first she'd wanted to wait until she was married to have sex. He'd been okay with it, agreeing that he wouldn't push the issue. He told her he'd only been with one other girl, back in high school.
She sighed as he grabbed at her breast with his whole hand then, feeling his warm lips on her neck. She began to get turned on and stopped kissing him then. "I've got class early honey," she said.
He sighed. "I know." He leaned over and kissed her. "I'm sorry if I was moving too fast."
"You were fine, I just have to get up early," she said.
He nodded. "I'll come by and see you tomorrow."
He leaned over and kissed her again, and then exited her room.

Texas, Present Day
John Davis looked up from his plate and smiled at his daughter. "Sugar, this spaghetti is awesome."
"Thanks, Daddy," she said between mouthfuls. "Don't get used to it, I'm planning on making you eat healthier, starting tomorrow. Consider this a treat."
He groaned and rolled his eyes playfully. "So, how was school?"
She shrugged. "It's okay. I like my classes, it's just a little silly hearing mostly the same stuff I heard back in California."
He nodded. "At least it'll be easier this time."
She nodded but stayed silent.
"She wants to change the subject,"
he thought.
"So what's the deal with you and Mike?"
