It's 8:17 a.m. on Saturday and I'm standing in the kitchen mixing up ingredients to make my own special waffles. This had been a birthday tradition for my little sister Lacey every year for as long as I could remember. Today is her 19th birthday and I want to make it as happy for her as I possibly can, considering our mother was unfortunately going to miss it.
Mum is a very successful self-employed architect and she'd been hired to design and see through the construction of a large countryside cottage. Unfortunately, some unforeseen issues had come up and she needed to travel there to fix them, meaning she'd be gone for a week and would miss Lacey's birthday.
I was just finishing up cooking the last of the waffles when a pair of arms wrapped around me and embraced me from behind.
"Are those my special waffles?" Lacey asked mid yawn.
"They sure are. Special waffles for a special birthday girl!" I said as I plated them up.
I carried them over to the dining table and set them down, letting her take as many as she wanted from the pile. I walked around by her side, bent down and kissed the top of her head.
"Happy birthday Lace, love you."
"I love you too, big brother. Wish mum was here too," she pouted.
"I know, me too. It's just unfortunate timing is all. What did she get you for your birthday?"
"Oh, yeah I forgot to tell you! She gave me money to go shopping and booked a table for my friends and I at my favourite Italian restaurant in town. I'm so excited!" she bounced in her chair.
"I need to head into town today too, would you like me to take you or are you being picked up?"
"Could you? That would be awesome and would save Jess a trip," she smiled.
"What are your plans exactly? Do you need me to pick you up later?"
"The plan as of right now is I'll meet Jess and Nicky in town, we'll do some shopping and catch a movie before we go to dinner. And we wanted to go dancing at a club too. Jess will be driving us home afterwards, so I won't need picking up."
"Dancing at a club hey, haven't got yourself a fake ID, have you?" I teased her but I already knew the answer.
"Nope! I'm a good girl, remember?" she said, flashing the most adorable smile. "We're just going to dance and that's it."
"I'm just teasing you, sis. I know you'll be on your best behaviour. Tell you what, you have a great day with your friends, enjoy your dinner, your movie and dancing and maybe, just maybe, there might be some drinks here for us to enjoy when you get home. How does that sound?"
"Now that's a plan I can get behind. Thank you, Robbie, you're the best!"
After breakfast was eaten and cleaned up, Lacey and I headed off to our respective rooms to get ready for the day.
By 11:30 a.m. I was stood at the front door waiting for her to join me. Right on time she appeared at the top of the stairs, all 5 foot 2 inches of her. Wearing her favourite Linkin Park t-shirt, black high waisted jeans and her Chuck Taylor All Star shoes. Bounding down the stairs, she jumped and landed next to me. The top of her head just about reached my shoulders, she was so adorably short. I didn't tease her for it though, she hated that. I secretly loved our height difference.
"Ready to go?" I asked her.
"Let's do this!" she said loudly and walked outside.
Instead of heading straight to the car, she waited for me to lock up the house first. I'd always tried to teach her how a gentleman should act, wanting to set a good example for her so she didn't settle for less than she deserved when it came to relationships. I opened the car door for her and once we were both in and buckled up, we set off on our way.
"Any idea what time I can expect you home later?"
"I'll tell Jess to have me back by 11:00 p.m., that okay?"
"Yeah of course, you don't have a curfew or anything like that. I was just curious is all."
Lacey called Jess and let her know she was on the way, and they agreed on a meeting place. It didn't take too long to get there. Thankfully parking wasn't an issue, and we got a decent spot.
"Alright birthday girl, you have a fantastic day, and I will see you later tonight, be safe, I love you," I gave her a big hug and kissed her cheek. "You girls have fun." I said to Jess and Nicky, waving to them.
"Love you too, see you tonight!" Lacey called out as she walked off with her friends.
I had a couple of stores to hit before heading home. Most importantly was the jewellery store I had requested a custom item for today. Along the way I picked up a new bottle of perfume, a selection of alcohol for later, a bouquet of Lacey's favourite flowers and her custom necklace.
After returning home I wrapped her gifts and placed them on the coffee table ready for later. The flowers I placed in a vase in her bedroom as an extra surprise.
The hours ticked away slowly, I had no plans and nothing to do except wait for Lacey to get back. I did a few chores, played some games and took a shower. Now changed into my comfortable pyjama bottoms and matching t-shirt, I was scrolling social media on my phone when I heard a car door close and some talking outside.
I got up and unlocked the front door, opening it for her as she came inside. I was shocked to see the girl that came home was not the same one that had left this morning. No longer was she wearing her band tee, black jeans and converse. She stood before me now wearing a gorgeous little black dress with matching black heels, my sister looked so grown up. And really fucking sexy!
"Wow," was all I could say.
"Wow is good. I like wow," she said, giving me a few twirls.
"Lace, you look incredible. I'm at a loss for words right now," I really was struggling.
"Aww, is my big brother all flustered?" she mocked me.
"When you look like that, I absolutely am!"
