Ali is the main character of the story. Ali is from Tamilnadu's one of the remote village. Ali is 33 years now. Ali did all his schoolings nearby his village. Ali had a decent face and body, but his beard made him look like a beggar. His skin color was brown, as he was from the southern part of India.
Ali was born and brought up in that remote village. Ali did his schooling in the nearby village school. Ali is from a very poor family; he has his mother and one sister. His father died when he was five years old. His mom, Fathima, raised Ali and his sister, Afrin, all by herself. She did household work in nearby houses. His father had a small land for farming, which Fathima couldn't handle all by herself after his death. So, she gave the land on lease for some money, and they are managing it. The money she earned was not enough for their survival. Ali and his sister did their schooling in government schools. Ali completed his schooling at 15. His mother had saved money for their marriage and education. He wanted to study more, but he could not get a scholarship. Ali's mother is a pure *****(I don't want anyone to get hurt by this story) and religious lady. She teaches Ali and Afrin to be a good human being, especially how to treat women. She taught them to respect all the women as their mom and sisters. Ali learned all the household works from his mom and is very good at it. He knows to clean, cook, and stitch. He also knows basic electrician work and how to fix basic mechanical issues in cars and bikes.
Ali's home was in a street in the village with very few homes and more space around each home. There may be 10 homes in that street with a lot of spaces. All the empty spaces were filled with trees. It is a village, so there were lots of trees and farming lands. Near to Ali's home, there is a Sacred hall/Prayer Hall, and from Ali's home, you need to walk some 500--600 meters to reach that Sacred hall/Prayer Hall. In the same street, there lived one more family; Angel Mariya was the mother, who also lost her husband in her early marriage days. She had two daughters. They were little above middle-class families; they had some rented complexes in the town, which they left for rent. Being in the town, they got good rent money, and also they had more farming land from which they got good money.
As both families lived in the same street and knew each other, Fatima, Ali's mother, used to call Angel Mariya as "Akka" (sister). Mariya also liked Ali very much because he was such a gentle guy and was ready to help her in all possible ways, like going to the market and getting vegetables, fixing her home, electric issues, or even tailoring. As Ali is very good with household work, she liked him. She used to send him for her works. Ali never said no to anyone, so he also readily agreed to do it for her.
Angel Mariya's daughters are Shynee (33) and Annie (28). They are in the same age group of Ali and his sister. But Shynee is a couple of months older than Ali. Annie joined the same school four years later than Shynee and Ali as she is younger. Annie was elder than Afrin by one year. Shynee studied in the same school where Ali was studying, but Shynee did not like Ali because of his looks and because he was poor. Annie was a kind girl compared to her sister.
Shynee was a topper in the school, and Ali was not that bad. He was also good at studies, which was one of the reasons for Shynee to not like Ali. In the final exams, Ali scored more than Shynee, which Shynee could not digest. After that, she wanted to take revenge on Ali. She was very angry and upset. Shynee's mother, Mariya, advised Shynee to join a good college in Chennai, as she didn't want her daughter's education to be spoiled. Ali's mom, Fathima, said, "You scored good marks. I don't want your career to be spoiled; you join the good college along with Shynee. I will manage the money somehow." Ali was worried about his sister's education and her marriage. Ali told his mom, "Don't worry, I will manage myself by doing a part-time job over there, and with this mark, I will get a scholarship for sure."
Fathima was happy and said, "As you wish, but take care of yourself."
Ali joined a college in Chennai.
Ali took a room in Chennai for 8 hours of bus travel from his village to college daily. He can't afford to spend that much time traveling daily. To his shock, he joined the same class, same course what Shynee chose. But that was common for many students. So, no one noticed it. It was like an impossible thing for Shynee that Ali is in her class. She can't accept it. She was in shock. She did not know how to react. Shynee had never imagined that she would be in the same class as Ali, and that too in a different city far away from their village. But she did not want to make a scene in front of the others. She decided to pretend like everything is normal, but she could not help but feel irritated every time she saw Ali in class. Shynee tried her best to ignore Ali and not pay attention to him, but she couldn't help but notice him sometimes. She hated seeing him there and wished that he would just disappear. Ali tried to focus on his studies and not let her bother him. Ali was a good student and wanted to focus on his future.
The first three years of college went smoothly for Ali, and he was doing well. He was scoring higher marks than Shynee in most of the exams. Shynee was also doing well, but Ali was consistently scoring higher marks than her. Ali was happy with his performance and was confident that he would do well in the final year. Shynee felt bad seeing Ali do better than her. She wanted to be the topper. She wanted to prove herself. In the final exams of the last semester, Shynee decided to do something to ruin Ali's career. She was tired of seeing him score higher marks than her in every exam. She wanted to put an end to it. Shynee thought of a plan to get Ali into trouble. She wrote some notes on a piece of paper and threw it under Ali's table during the exam. Then, she complained to the invigilator that Ali was cheating. The invigilator went to Ali and asked him to show his paper. Ali was shocked and didn't know what to say. He had not written any notes on a piece of paper, and he didn't know where the notes came from. The invigilator found the notes under Ali's table, and Ali tried to explain that they were not his. But no one believed him. The invigilators banned Ali from writing the exam. Ali was heartbroken and cried in front of them. He pleaded them to believe him. He tried to convince them that he had not cheated, but no one listened to him. He said, "My career will be ruined," and he begged them to give him another chance, but they refused to listen. The exam was over, and Ali felt devastated. He couldn't believe what had happened. He had worked hard for three years, and now everything was ruined because of Shynee's false accusation. Ali returned home after the final exams. Ali told the whole story to his mom and sister, and they were heartbroken. They couldn't believe that Shynee could stoop so low. Ali felt frustrated and angry. He couldn't understand why Shynee would do such a thing to him. Ali couldn't get his degree because of the ban. His sister and mother felt sad for him. Ali's sister, Afrin, tried to console him, but Ali felt that his life was over. Ali was upset and frustrated, but he tried to stay strong for his family.
