David jammed his key into the lock and gave it a sharp twist, shunting through the front door once it glided open. He nudged the door back as he stepped inside, wincing when a little too much momentum caused it to slam a touch harder than he had intended. He listened out for any signs of life, hoping he wouldn't have to explain his early return.
Trudging into the living room, David dropped a bouquet of roses and a box of reasonably expensive chocolates onto the coffee table, dropping bodily into the wide leather couch. Loosening the tie that constricted his throat, David watched the television with a despondent stare, not in the least bit interested in what he was watching.
"David? Honey? Are you back already?" the dazzling voice belonging to his mother called from the kitchen.
"Yeah," David replied with little more than a sigh, letting his head fall back against the backrest of the couch, realising that his luck had truly taken its leave.
Katherine Lithwell appeared in the doorway leading to the kitchen, still wearing her tailor-made work suit, with a black pencil skirt that put her shapely hips on complete display. David turned his head to look at her, captivated by the sight of the woman who achieved a level of effortless glamour that most women would have been envious of. Platinum blonde hair flowed across her shoulders, coiling towards the tips, adding a level of volume that provided her with a far more striking profile despite her shorter frame. In spite of his effort to avoid even thinking it, David couldn't ignore the way the blazer strained across her bust, with a silk white blouse practically moulded across her breasts, something that continually invoked lewd comments from his friends over the years, even as he prepared to leave for college in the summer.
She could have easily passed as someone in her late twenties, possessing a bubbly personality that could draw in even the most anti-social of people, with a level of charisma that made her one of the most desirable women David knew. His father certainly showed his appreciation for having such a coveted woman as his wife, taking every possible opportunity to hoist her away to the bedroom when their mutual desire became too irresistible, much to the embarrassment of David and his sisters.
"I thought you were going to meet Emily for Valentine's Day?" she questioned, with sympathy clear in her blue eyes when she spotted the discarded gifts. "Did something happen?"
"She said she had some sort of meeting with a college rep, a last minute change in her schedule," David moped, "I only found out just as I was driving up to the restaurant to meet her."
"And you worked so hard to plan everything out," Katherine walked over and dropped down next to David, wrapping a comforting arm across his shoulders, "she could have at least given you some prior warning."
"I guess, but I think she was just too excited about the prospect of getting an interview with an Ivy league university. Sounded like she just forgot about our date."
"If it helps, I never really liked her to begin with. She had a pompous air about her, like she was just too good to be near anyone she considered lesser," Katherine smiled, her eyes twinkled mischievously. "And that nasally voice of hers got on my nerves. I'm not even sure how you put up with her."
"She had come good qualities," David shrugged with a small smile, his embarrassment faded slightly with his mom's attempt to cheer him up.
"Not when she's standing you up because she feels that she has better things to do!" Katherine countered without hesitation. "Like I said, you're better off finding a girl who will appreciate you."
"I thought I was going to be alone here," David changed the subject, but not as eloquently as he would have liked. "Why are you home so early?"
"I hooked a big client last week, and I mean big. I think I've more than earned a few afternoons off for the time being," Katherine said. "Though, that doesn't really work out when I have nothing to do other than skulking around the house when your father isn't here. But what about you? It's still Valentine's Day, there must be some girl out in the wild just waiting for you to scoop them up?"
"I think I might just stay in," David sighed, resigning himself to a night of hiding away in his room, trying to find a way of living down the feeling of shame.
"Absolutely not!" Katherine fired back, snapping back to her feet, staring down at a surprised David with a look of utter determination. "You've been looking forward to this for weeks, you said so yourself. I refuse to allow you to let the day go to waste because Emily decided to go back on a promise."
"What else can I do?" David ran a frustrated hand across his face. "What are the chances of finding someone on Valentine's Day of all days who hasn't already been paired off? Or anyone who's just willing to go for a night out, for that matter?"
"What about me?" Katherine inquired, folding her arms beneath her chest.
"You? What do you mean?" David laughed at the absurdity, until he understood that she was being completely serious.
"I mean me, the woman standing right in front of you. Your father doesn't finish work until ten, his team's working on some new project, so he's stuck doing extensive research," Katherine continued. "My diary is free for the rest of the night, and I'd rather have a night on the town than being cooped up here."
"But you're my mom, I think that's a good enough reason to nix the idea. I wouldn't be able to show my face at school again if someone spotted us."
"Baby, we don't have to go to one of the local restaurants," Katherine laughed kindly, pulling her smartphone out, tapping the screen rapidly. "Look at that, the Sophocles Theater is showing Titanic for one night only."
"That old dump is still around? But that's on the other side of town," David said, but that familiar stubborn spark in her eyes was enough to tell David that his mom wouldn't give up so easily. "Not to mention how seedy it is, that place hasn't been renovated since the eighties. Hell, the last time we drove past it, they still had posters for E.T. hanging up near the front booth."
"It's part of its rustic aesthetic," Katherine grinned, knowing full well what sort of reputation the dilapidated theater had. "More importantly, it's far enough away that you won't have to worry about any of your friends catching us on a little date night. Come on, don't tell me you wouldn't like to go out with a beautiful older woman, you'd be the envy of anyone who sees us."
"I still don't know," David said hesitantly, ignoring the ever expanding grin that appeared on his mother's face, "you're still in your work clothes."
"Easily rectified," Katherine leaned down and kissed David on the cheek, darting over to the stairs in the landing, "just give me about an hour and I'll be ready to go. And remember, mister, I want that tie back on and that shirt buttoned up, I refuse to be seen with anything less than a dashing young man."
"I'll wait," David smiled, listening to the thundering sound of his mother's footsteps as she dashed up the stairs.
As she requested, David snapped his shirt buttons back together, then wrapped his tie back around his neck, taking a quick check in the hanging mirror to make sure he was back in fair shape. Satisfied with his appearance, David flicked through the channels, trying to find anything that could keep him distracted while he patiently waited.
His mother's estimate proved accurate, with the sound of her heels tapping against the wooden floor causing him to snap back up, brushing his suit jacket down in preparation. A silent gasp blew through his lips when she finally appeared in the doorway, genuinely amazed by the sight he was met with.
A black sequined bodycon dress hugged the curves she had worked so hard to maintain at her local gym, shoulderless with a skirt that fell just above her ankles, with a slit that ran up to her thigh to ensure her legs were always on display. A thin metal belt was wrapped tightly around her waist, accentuating the hourglass shape, bringing further attention to her ample breasts. A pair of glossy black platform Louboutin heels adorned her small feet and pushed her well above her shorter height, forcing her toned legs to take on a taut appearance and her alluring rear to thrust out.
Her oval face boasted only a small amount of make-up, enough to let her natural beauty shine through, with glistening ruby lipstick enhancing her succulent lips. Lightly applied blush brought out her naturally high cheek bones, black glitter eyeshadow helped to make her sapphire eyes pop. Her golden tresses were shaped into spiralling coils, all cascading over her bare shoulders and down her back, glowing in the light pouring in from the hallway.
"By the look on your face, I'd say that I've made an impression," Katherine observed, twisting to the side, running a hand down her spine and acoss the swell of her ass.
"You look so beautiful," David replied honestly, his skin turned a light shade of red when he realised what he had said.
