Dione was bored.

She'd lived here alone since Mik's passing, and even when he'd been there, he was more like a friendly neighbour than a roommate. She'd spent years largely alone, amusing herself, talking to the trees and to the plants. The past couple of weeks had been an absolute whirlwind, with Jev arriving and taking over the farm, the chaos with BigBuy, the... everything... with Sam. As stressful as it was, there'd always been things to do, to keep her stimulated.

Even worse was that Cyd was gone too. Cyd had been a constant companion for what seemed like forever, and if Dione had been bored, she could usually rely on Cyd to at least be there to pester. But for now, even she was gone. Dione would even have taken Sam. The succubus still slightly concerned Dione, but at least she didn't seem to be quite the dangerous wild cannon it sounded like she was before bonding with Jev. Dione wasn't sure how she and Sam might have passed the time, but she was certain that the succubus wouldn't have let them stay bored for too long.

Dione sat beneath her tree, looking out over the field. No one had been by the farm since Jev had left, so she'd stopped bothering with clothing. She was relatively certain that if she'd just chosen to be a nudist full-time while at home, no one would have complained. Still, there was always the risk that someone would come by to talk to Jev, and Dione was too shy to be seen like that. It was an uncommon trait for a Dryad, but one she'd picked up after Mik would grow embarrassed on her behalf when she'd walk around nude. He'd kindly gotten her the dresser and a changing booth shortly after she'd first emerged from the oak. While the changing booth had collapsed years before, and never replaced, the dresser had sat beside the tree for long enough that it was beginning to be absorbed by it. Its legs were practically rotted away from contact with the moisture in the ground, and the back was likely just as bad. She'd made sure to give it regular coats of stain and sealant to keep it in the best condition possible. Though she occasionally had to shoo away small animals who came across it thinking they'd found an incredible home full of comfy bedding.

She opened the second drawer from the bottom, and beneath a thick woollen sweater she'd rarely worn, withdrew a pink, silicone bar with a white plastic cap on its base and a bullet-shaped end. Checking first that no one was around, she sat down in the grass surrounding her tree, opposite the main entrance to the property so she wouldn't be immediately seen if someone drove up, and twisted the white cap on her toy. It buzzed excitedly at first and she adjusted it to a medium speed. She ran it gently around her outer lips first, making several slow circles around her slit to give it a chance to lubricate. Dione thought of Jev's warm hands grabbing her breasts, and she mimicked the action with her free hand, pulling and teasing at the nipple.

When she finally felt ready she pushed the vibrator within. It had been a gift from Cyd, and using it always made Dione think of her; of Cyd lying naked before her, head between Dione's legs and licking at her clit while she thrust the vibrator within. The werewolf was always a bit too vigorous about it, but Her enthusiasm paid off in other ways. After all, Dione had never had a complaint about Cyd's stamina.

Dione clicked the speed of the vibrating dildo up a notch higher, sliding it in and out of herself in arcing movements that brought the vibe up alongside her clit, not quite making direct contact, but enjoying the buzzing nearby. She cursed, wishing Jev were nearby. The toy did its job, but it wasn't a substitute for the real thing. Dione thought back to the last time they'd been together by this tree, imagining his cock ramming deep inside. The vibrator was now being thrust deep inside, a poor facsimile of her memory. Her other hand was frantically worrying at her clitoris, just trying to get her over the edge.

Finally, the build-up was released. Dione curled her toes into the grass and sucked in a hissing breath as she finally came.

"Hello?"

Dione froze. The call had come from the front walk, a woman's voice.

"Just getting changed. Give me a minute!"

She gave the vibrator an unceremonious wipe on the grass, making a mental note to give it a proper cleaning when the interloper was gone. Awkwardly she reached around the dresser to retrieve some clothing, trying not to expose herself in the process. She managed to grab a pair of panties, shorts and a T-shirt, but her bras were too far to reach comfortably, so she did without. She could feel the heat of orgasm still flushing her face, and her hair was a mess after being left unattended for days, but it was good enough to meet a visitor, at least.

Seated on the front steps of the house was Riva, the lizardfolk girl. She stood when Dione came into view, though Dione noticed that she wasn't making eye contact. A moment of self-conscious panic bubbled through Dione.

Ah, Zarine... Does she know what I was doing? Did she hear me? No, it can't be. She's just shy. She was like this when she dropped off the seeds, remember? Calm down. You're just meeting a visitor who doesn't know that you were jamming a vibe into yourself a minute ago. It's fine.

"What can I do for you, Riva?"

The use of her name brought Riva's eyes up to meet Dione's, seemingly out of surprise.

"Um... Hi. My dad wanted to know if Jev and you and the rest of your, uh, friends wanted to come by for dinner tonight."

Dione's heart soared at the prospect of having someone else to talk to. The bees and the plants weren't the conversationalists that certain animated films made them out to be. She nodded enthusiastically.

"Jev is actually getting his stuff together to get moved, and Sam and Cyd went with him. But I'm going a bit crazy here by myself and I'd love the chance to socialize a bit. What time?"

Riva cocked her head slightly as if she hadn't expected Dione to agree. Her tongue flicked out and licked one of her expressive amber eyes.

"Um, yeah. We usually eat around 6, so come by for 5-ish. Y'know, if that's ok for you?"

Dione smiled broadly.

"I'll be there with bells on!"

Riva cocked her head again, giving an expression that was impossible for Dione to read.

"Uh, ok. I'll see you then, I guess."

Without waiting for a further response, Riva turned and started walking away. Dione waved lamely.

"Bye!"

And then Dione was alone again. She stared as Riva left, trying to make up her mind about the other woman. She was clearly tremendously shy, and despite Cyd's teasing it didn't seem to be triggered by Jev. Part of her wanted to see if she could help the younger woman come out of her shell, while another

part worried that she'd just be another unwelcome trigger for her anxiety. Riva disappeared around a corner at the end of the road, and Dione shook herself free of her musings. There was still a lot of time before dinner - it wasn't even noon - but the prospect of having something to do at least allowed Dione a chance to get prepared.

Her thoughts were drawn back to the small pink vibrator now sitting in the open beside her tree. She brought this into the house and gave it a thorough cleaning before returning it to its home in her dresser. She also decided to clean herself up. Being a Dryad, she didn't tend to develop body odour like most, a fact that Cyd had complained about on more than one occasion. The oils and dirt which accumulated on her skin got removed when she entered her tree, so in a way, it was like she showered every night. However, she liked showering. She liked the body washes and scented shampoos and the feeling of warm water on her skin. She

liked showering with Cyd or Jev. Bathing was even more comforting, but somehow she never felt quite as clean afterwards.

Now clean and properly dressed, she walked into town. The money she'd inherited from Myk's passing was still in her account. It hadn't been a huge sum and ordinarily would have lasted her for a fairly long time since she had few expenses. She reminded herself that she was going to need to speak to Jev about being paid for her work. Few expenses weren't no expenses, after all. She bought a bottle of wine in town to go with dinner, an inexpensive red that she liked and then went to Timo's for a drink. She nursed her drink and texted Jev for a bit, watching people meander through the plaza and getting caught up in short conversations as people walked by. Mr. Diclerc, the head of the farmer's co-op, wanted to know what was going on with the farm, while Ms. Gainger, the owner of the grocery store, asked about the nice young man she'd seen Dione with.

With the agreed-upon time approaching, though, Dione returned to the house to change once more. Slipping into the orchid-print dress she'd worn on her date with Jev, along with a pair of comfortable flats, she touched up her makeup and headed over to the Musker family home. She was met at the door by a short woman, barely up to Dione's chest, with flawless features and glowing skin. Her chestnut-brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail, with two strands hanging loose and framing her face. Sharp eyebrows pointed back to sharp pointed ears and all of her features seemed just a little too sharp to be elven. Marieke Musker was a sprite, gratefully taking the bottle of wine from Dione and flying with it on translucent insect wings that looked like a bee's.

"Dione! Oh, what a pleasure to see you again, dear! Come in!"

She withdrew from the door to allow Dione in. The Musker's house was far larger than Jev's, which was perhaps unsurprising since they had a whole family living there. Their oldest, Kees-Jan had moved out several years before and was now living in Severna, last she'd heard. Riva was the next oldest, and finally, there was...

"Joris!"

Marieke's voice shouted the name shortly before there was a loud thud which vibrated the house. Joris was the youngest boy in the household and had always been a bottomless wellspring of energy. Dione had done a little babysitting for them when Joris had been younger and Riva hadn't been available, and it had always been an interesting evening.

"Now what did you expect, sitting on the chair like a fool like that. You're lucky you didn't crack your head open. Now get this sorted up, we have company."

Dione turned the corner and in the living room, Joris was still sprawled on the floor, the recliner he'd seemingly been sitting in overturned on its back beneath him. He sat up hurriedly as she walked in, rushing to set the chair back on its feet.

"Hi Dione. You look nice."

Lizardfolk didn't blush, but the green of his cheeks did seem to flush slightly deeper nevertheless.

"Well thank you, Joris."

The young boy had apparently discovered girls since she'd last interacted with him. She made her way through the living room to the kitchen and felt his eyes on her butt as she left. In the kitchen, Haan was mixing up a few ingredients in a large bowl with his hands.

"Nice to see you, Dione. Ready for supper? We've got bean burgers, garden salad, and corn on the cob, all fresh from the market." He motioned to the mix. "Just gonna get these on the grill in a minute."

She smiled as Marieke slid a glass of the wine she'd brought onto the counter beside her.

"Sounds delicious!"

Haan formed the bean mash into patties, bringing them outside to the grill. Through the window, Dione could see Riva was also out there, working in the garden. Marieke came up beside Dione, sighing profoundly.

"That girl... She'd rather be with her tomatoes than with people. She's graduating from University next summer, and I don't think she's had a date, or even spoken to another person since starting class for something that wasn't to do with schoolwork."

Dione smiled, remembering similar statements being made about her.

"Some people are just more solitary than others. The world's a big place, and sometimes you just feel small in it."

Marieke made a disapproving sound.

"Well, you'll never get any bigger if you don't at least try to grow."

She flounced to the back door.

"Riva! We've got company. Stop playing with your garden and come inside and say hello!"

Watching from in the house, Dione could see the slump of the younger woman's shoulders and imagined she could hear the frustrated grunt that she knew would accompany it. She brushed her hands off on her pants as she stood and she stomped over to the door, giving a quiet, "Hi, Dione" as she entered. Dione decided to try to engage with her in a way she was comfortable with.

"So, how're the tomatoes growing?"

Riva grunted with frustration for real this time.

"Not good. The yard gets too much shade from the house and the hedge. It's really stopping it from thriving. But the soil in most of the yard's pretty burnt out from being used for farming and fertilizer runoff. I want to set up a garden over by..."

Marieke immediately spoke up, her wings buzzing with pique.

"We've talked about this and it's not going to happen. You're too solitary already. If you set up your little garden out in the middle of nowhere, we'll never see you again. You'll just become a wild woman with no connection to anyone, scavenging berries to eat."

Riva looked like she was about to argue, but it was clear that the argument had been had often enough that she knew she'd already lost. Dione had a sudden idea.

"What about at our place?"

Both Riva and Marieke turned to look at her with surprise.

"Well, we've got plenty of land near the barn and behind the house which don't get shade at all. I'm sure we could give you a decent little patch of land to work. In exchange, you could give us some of what it produces so we can have nice, fresh veggies. Plus, she'd be right by the house so she could keep me company. And Jev and Sam once they're back, and sometimes Cyd when she's by."

Riva's eyes lit up like she'd just been told she'd won the lottery. She looked pleadingly at her mother, the question she wanted to ask not needing to be voiced. Marieke looked uncertain.

"I don't know... I wouldn't want her to be a burden. Plus, we'd still want to see her from time to time."

Dione winked at Riva, cutting off her argument before she started it.

"Please, if we can handle Cyd we can handle Riva. Besides, it's a good opportunity for her to get out and spread her wings a little. We're just down the road, it's not like she's moved away to Garnaca."

Riva nodded enthusiastically.

"Uh-huh, and I can come home for supper, and I'll be home in the evenings, too."

Marieke still looked sceptical, but finally nodded her assent.

"Ok, so long as you're not causing trouble for Dione or Jev, and you make sure that you're keeping up with school

and

you don't forget about your poor old parents..."

Dione nodded along.

"I'll also need to check with Jev to make sure he's ok with it and doesn't have plans for any of that space, but I don't anticipate issues with either."

Riva rushed from the kitchen excitedly, muttering to herself about needing to make a list of the resources she would need. Marieke watched as she ran up the stairs, concerned.

"I hope we don't come to regret this..."

Dione smiled comfortingly.

"It really will be nice to have someone else around the farm while everyone else is away, and it might do her some good to be in a more public space. Besides, she can't spend all of her time in the garden, can she? Once the seeds are planted, what else is there to do?"

The Fae woman gave Dione a sceptical look but was prevented from replying by Haan entering the kitchen with a plate of grilled burgers and corncobs.

Dinner was delightful. Dione spent half of the meal explaining their adventures since Jev had arrived, and spent most of the other half fielding questions from Riva about the quality of the soil and and planting conditions. She eventually invited Riva to stop by the following afternoon to give her a chance to look into the conditions herself. Marieke gently scolded her daughter, warning her not to become too much of an imposition and reminding her of the conditions that they'd placed on her using the space. Joris took the opportunity to be extra annoying to his sister, flinging a loose bean from his plate at her and talking over her, something which Dione recognised as his attempt to show off. He eventually earned a growled, "Settle down," from his father, which calmed the behaviour somewhat.

After dinner, they proceeded out to a fire pit in the backyard, finishing the evening around a fire. The fire kept the worst of the bite out of the spring air, and Dione, Marieke and Haan spent the rest of the evening getting just a little tipsy around the fire while Riva and Joris attended to their own things. Every now and again Dione could see Riva in the window of her upstairs room moving around, framed by small plants in pots on her windowsill. The evening grew long, and Dione excused herself, returning home to sleep warm within the confines of her tree.

She was woken early the next morning by Jev's response causing her phone to ping. He'd had no reservations about Riva using some space for a garden, only mentioning that they may want to put the abandoned chicken coop into use in the future, as a point for consideration. He also suggested moving one of the benches from inside the barn outside, as a place for Riva to work and store supplies which weren't afraid of a bit of weather. If the arrangement worked for them both, he suggested they might look into adding a shed too.

Dione tried returning to sleep after reading his response, but she found herself simply floating within the stasis of her tree, thinking. She was eager to see what Riva had in mind for the garden, but also for a chance to see what the younger woman was like when she was more inside of her comfort zone.

Eventually, with sleep not returning, she decided to get up. She still felt tired, but figured she'd kick herself into gear with a coffee. She took some time to get the house tidied, and considered moving the bench that Jev had mentioned out of the barn, but then realised that there was plenty of room and Riva would be perfectly capable of working at the bench as it was. Riva turned up only five minutes after noon, excited to get started. Dione showed her the place, a patch of earth north of the shed about 10m wide and almost one-and-a-half times as long, almost matching the footprint of the barn. Mik had kept the space mostly wild, so it needed a lot of tending to become a usable space, but she was sure that Riva would be up to the challenge. She looked at Dione agog.

"Wait, really? All of this space?"

Dione noticed that Riva wasn't stuttering or avoiding eye contact at the moment. She'd become too enraptured by her new space for her anxiety to distract her.

"I mean, you're free to not use whatever you'd like. The southern and northern sides do get a bit of shade from the barn throughout the day but the middle is fully sun."

She pointed to a hose bibb on the side of the barn.

"We use that to fill our watering trailer, and you're welcome to use it so long as it doesn't interfere with our operations in the main field. It pulls straight from the creek, though, so don't drink from the hose. If ever you have problems with it, you may need to go unclog the intake hose. I can show you where that is if it gives you problems. If you need clean water, we're on a well in the house."

Riva seemed overwhelmed.

"I... This is... I mean..."

The lizardfolk woman seemed at war with herself for a moment, and then she wrapped Dione in a big, excited hug. Dione chuckled, returning the embrace. The skin of Riva's arms was unusual and soft, but covered in pebbly bumps. Suddenly self-conscious, Riva broke the hug as quickly as it had begun, looking around awkwardly.
