Chapter 29: Journey to the Mountains

The following morning, everyone met in the royal dining room for breakfast, minus Samora who was still sound asleep after almost a week of tireless studying. The group would be leaving for the Echoing Mountains in a few hours. The final preparations were being made for them.

Mirya was seated next to Tiafell at the table.

"Are you excited, Tee-Tee? You get to wield a sword that has a goddess living inside of it!" Mirya beamed at him, excitedly showing her teeth.

Tiafell nodded. "Yeah, but it's a little scary. I barely got any sleep last night thinking about it. I have a nagging fear that I won't be strong enough to defeat Dred, even with Gadrael. And if I'm not, everyone will..." His bottom lip trembled.

"Tee-Tee, you-"

"Don't think like that, Baby Brother!" Trista interrupted Mirya from Tiafell's other side. "You were chosen for a reason! And you're plenty strong already, just imagine how powerful you'll become with Gadrael! Dred won't stand a chance!!"

"Yes, thank you, Trista." Tiafell smiled at his older sister. As the elven siblings spoke, Mirya gritted her teeth, balling her fists.

Since Trista's arrival in Janazheim, Tiafell had spent most of his time with her. Unintentionally, she butted in when her brother talked to one of his friends and would monopolize his attention. Though most of them took it lightly, growing friendlier with Trista, Mirya grew jealous.

The female mage had always been close to Tiafell, often being the first to encourage and cheer for him and was physically affectionate toward him. She was the only one who had that kind of relationship with him until Trista came along. Mirya became irritated when Trista "stole" Tiafell's attention away from her. She tried to be more understanding, after all, Trista was his long-lost sister he had recently been reunited with. However, that did not stop envy from rearing its ugly head.

"Excuse me..." Mirya abruptly left the table.

"Mirya?" Tiafell reached for her. Trista's ears lowered, awkwardly rolling a sausage ball across her plate with a fork.

"I'll go check on her." Kanah volunteered, going after Mirya.

"And so, it begins..." Nadia muttered.

"So what begins?" Cirris raised an eyebrow.

Nadia groaned. "

Fuck

, you're dense! I'll tell you in private later, dumbass."

"He's hopeless..." Brion shook his head.

"Even Brion gets it, Dickhead." Nadia sighed, stabbing her pancakes with a fork.

"Mirya?" Kanah found the blonde girl in her room, sulking on her bed.

"Oh, Kannie." Mirya wiped her eyes, pretending she wasn't crying.

"What's wrong? You can tell me." The short, busty girl joined her bestie.

The mage groaned. "I don't know... I should be happy for Tee-Tee and Trista. They've finally been reunited after spending their entire lives apart. But I'm jealous! She steps in when the rest of us want to spend time with him! The others think nothing of it, and I know I shouldn't either, but it pisses me off! She just comes along and snatches his attention away! I know, I'm horrible. It's not like me to be so possessive."

"Hm, maybe you like Tiafell more than you realize?"

"Huh? What makes you say that?"

"Oh, come on!" Kanah turned Mirya to face her, holding her shoulders. "You always dote on Tiafell! Well, you do it to all of us, but he gets it the most often! You're always the first to cheer for him, to lift him up when he's down, and you have the most intense orgasms when he fucks you! And don't say it's only because his dick is the biggest!"

Mirya averted her focus to a spot on the floor, away from Kanah. "Even if all that is true, he doesn't need

me

anymore. He has Tristy now."

"Now hold on, don't you dare through in the towel like that!" Kanah berated her. "I personally don't think Trista is trying to steal him away from you. I doubt she realizes she's monopolizing Tiafell's time the way she is. It's like your mom said, her social skills need work. Plus, she's always liked you, talk to her about it!"

"I don't know, it feels awkward to. Plus, I'm not sure that's how I feel about Tee-Tee anyway."

"Oh boy... clearly, the first step is for you to stop lying to yourself. Look, I'm not saying 'ask Tiafell out right now', but give your feelings some thought, okay? The sooner you're honest with yourself, the better."

Mirya nodded. "Okay, but I'm sure you're reading way too much into this."

"I. Don't. Think. So!" Kanah sang. "Nadia agrees with me, she and I have talked about this more than once!"

"By the gods, Nadi??" Mirya buried her face in her palms. "Now I'm the subject of gossip and rumors! UGH, kill me now!!!"

"Naaaah!" Kanah hugged her tightly. "It's just me and Nadia. We haven't talked to anyone else; I swear it on my honor as a warrior of Steelweld!"

"Okay..." Mirya groaned. "But still, this is so embarrassing!"

"Why, because you looooove Tiafell?" Kanah smirked.

"Yes... h-hey! I love

all

of you!!" Mirya shoved her bestie. Kanah retaliated, resulting in a playful shoving match between the girls, which ended with both giggling and laying on the bed together.

"Thanks, Kannie. I feel a bit better."

"Sure! Don't mention it!" Kannie threw her arms around the mage. "Seriously though, you need to take a good hard look at your feelings Think about on the road."

"Fiiiine, but I swear I'm not in love with Tee-Tee. I do love him, but only as a close friend." Mirya felt a twinge in her heart, as if hurt by her own words.

"You're gonna have to work hard to convince me that's true!"

"What am I going to do with you...?"

"Feed me your pussy?" Kanah sat up, licking her lips.

Mirya laughed. "Not right now, we're leaving soon!"

"Okaaaay... but you owe me!"

"Alright, Kannie..." The girls giggled.

Two hours later, Tiafell, Nadia, Cirris, Mirya, Brion, Kanah, and Trista, waited at the West Gate on their horses with weapons and supplies packed. Vasati went with the group to see them off.

"Good luck Tiafell, all of you! May all of you will return safely with Gadrael!"

"We will, I promise!" Tiafell declared, raising his balled fist. "Thank you for everything, you've been a great help to us!"

"You're welcome!" Vasati patted his shin. "I will see you all again very soon!"

With that, the seven adventurers took off. Their horses neighed and bolted forward, leaving Janazheim behind. Vasati watched until they disappeared in the distance.

On the road, Mirya rode with Kanah on her horse, Tiafell and Trista were together on Carafell.

"So, I have an idea!" Kanah began. "We'll likely fuck tonight. Whenever we pair up, claim Tiafell before anyone else can."

Mirya planted her face in the middle of Kanah's back. "I'm nervous, but why? I always leap at the chance to be fucked by Tee-Tee..."

"You know why!"

"Oh, shut up, Kannie!" Mirya growled, blushing.

Kanah laughed for a bit. "Anyway, I have an idea, here's what you do..."

The girls discussed Kanah's plan as they rode with the others.

In Basilix Castle's throne room, a crystal ball in Dred's hand projected the image of an orc.

"You can confirm they are going to the Echoing Mountains?" Dred's yellow eyes narrowed.

"Yes, my lord," the orc answered. "We heard them discussing it. There was something about a sword that the elf named Tiafell has been chosen to retrieve They will be there in eight days."

Dred fell silent.

"Lord Dred?"

"... keep your eyes on them..." Dred crushed the orb, then reached out to Esteban telepathically. "Esteban, gather your generals and meet me in the throne room immediately!!"

Esteban and Grimswald were sparring when the Vampire Lord received the summons.

"Hold!" The seven-and-a-half-foot tall vampire lifted his hand to stop his partner. "Is something wrong, My Lord? You seem rattled."

"I didn't ask you to question me, I told you to come to the throne room, NOW!!"

"Grimswald is with me. We'll get Bahti and be there at once." Esteban responded, Dred did not respond further.

"What the fuck is going on?" Grimswald flung his sword onto his shoulder.

"I don't know, but I have never heard Dred this agitated. Find Bahti, I'll get Alto. He wants us in the throne room right now."

"Of course, Master." Grimswald laid his weapon on a rack, then disappeared around a corner.

"Now, what could possibly frighten a creature who can escape from Hell...?" Esteban chuckled, the corners of his mouth rising.

Unbeknownst to them, Alto and Bahti were together. The former Sultana of Adrui had summoned the vampire elf to her chambers. She was nude, bathing in a large tub filled with blood. Two naked vampire women were with her.

"I'm glad you came, Alto. Have you finally decided to take my offer and join us? I assure you the 'water' is fine, and so is the company!" Bahti purred.

"I only came because the note said it was urgent." Alto was uninterested in the nude women.

"It is

urgent

, I'm urgently horny!" The Adruian vampire stood, blood running down her curvaceous nude form.

"I can't be with anyone else until I know what happened to my fiancΓ©."

"Why are you so loyal to someone who may not be alive?" Bahti left the tub, sauntering over to Alo. Her hands roamed the elf's chest, staining his shirt red. "Forget about Vasati and join us. We'll satisfy you in ways no other woman can."

Before Alto could reply, Grimswald forcibly opened the door. "Woah, goddamn!" He adjusted the monocle over his right eye.

"Have you ever heard of knocking??" Bahti hissed. Alto turned to face the other vampire general.

Grimswald propped his elbow on the door frame. "You all can fuck later. Dred wants us to meet in the throne room at once."

"I don't give a fuck about Dred!"

"Lord Esteban commanded me to find you. He's looking for the elf boy here, this will save him some trouble."

"Tch..." Bahti huffed. "Fine, we'll be there. Now leave!"

Grimswald waved his hand and left, only to return and poke his head back into the room. "Nice tits by the way!"

"OUT!!!!" He ran off at her loud protest.

"I hate that man, why does Lord Esteban need

two

generals?" Bahti fumed. "My offer still stands, Alto. Take some time and consider it." The female vampire kissed his cheek. "Better go and join them."

Alto was silent, simply bowing his head toward the women and backing out of the room.

"Clean me, my pets." Bahti instructed, holding her arms up.

"Yes, My Lady." The women rose from the tub to dry their mistress.

Fully dressed, Bahti joined Dred, Esteban, Grimswald, and Alto in the throne room, being the last to arrive.

Dred hovered to the front of the group. "We have an emergency on our hands. I have been informed that Tiafell and his friends are going to the Echoing Mountains. There is something in the caverns under the mountains we must not allow them to obtain!"

"What? Dwarves?" Grimswald mocked. "The fuck could they want with goddamn dwarves?"

Dred scowled. "If you have nothing useful to say, hold your tongue unless you want me to rip it out!" The demon growled. "There is an old legend from the Underworld about a divine sword hidden deep below the mountains. A weapon such as this can instantly erase most demons and vampires from existence with a single strike, that includes all of us!"

"If I may, Lord Dred," Esteban began, "what leads you to believe such a weapon exists in the first place, let alone where it's located?"

Dred pointed to his skull. "I learned of this when I drained the former King of the Underworld of his essence. You see, he was a fallen angel who rebelled against the gods and was banished to the Underworld, where he created the demon race. The former king had knowledge of the blade and of the goddess dwelling within it."

"So, we are to go to the mountains and stop them from getting this sword, I presume?" Bahti speculated, folding her arms under her breasts.

"Yes. But we're not going alone. I already have sent a small group of demons to infiltrate the caverns from underground; subterranean demons are currently digging a tunnel for them. When Tiafell and the others arrive, we will use Esteban's ability to send us right to them. I will possess Tiafell, reclaim Trista, and kill the others! After that, we'll collapse the entire mountain on that sword so no one will ever find it!"

"We are humbled by your trust in us, Lord Dred." Esteban bowed. "However, I will need either Grimswald or Bahti to remain here so I can bring us back. My traveling ability only works by using someone I have a connection with as a beacon."

me

! I haven't murdered a goddamn thing since I've been here!!" Griswald excitedly volunteered.

"I have no objections." Bahti couldn't be bothered with going.

"Fine..." Dred grumbled. "It will take them eight days to arrive. Remain here until then. You are dismissed!"

The four vampires bowed and took their leave. Alone, Dred watched his hands tremble.

"I have not felt fear since I was a child, struggling to survive in the Underworld... you will pay for making me experience it again, Tiafell. I will take control of your body, then force you to watch as I kill your loved ones using your hands!"

"I must have a word with young Alto, the two of you are free to go." Esteban ordered.

"Fine..." Grimswald gave Alto a dirty look, envious of the young upstart who had become so highly favored by his master.

"Bye Alto, think about my offer!" Bahti cooed, blowing the vampire elf a kiss. She and Grimswald went their separate ways.

"Come with me." The Vampire Lord ordered, leading him to his chambers.

"Master, I must insist you bring me along this time!" Alto demanded, stiffening his arms.

"That is what I wish to speak to you about." Esteban placed his hand on the elf's shoulder. "I promised you would get a chance to slay Tiafell, and it is time to make good on that promise! You will accompany us to the Echoing Mountains and get your revenge."

"Thank you, My Lord!" Alto lowered his head. "What made you change your mind, if I may ask?"

"This divine sword that has Dred so terrified is an intriguing development." Esteban walked to the window. "I was losing hope that we would ever find someone else powerful enough to badly injure Dred, and now we may have our chance!"

"What are you planning, My Lord?"

Esteban turned to face the elf. "It's simple, nino. We are going to allow Tiafell to get this sword and wear Dred down to within an inch of his life. That is where you come in. Before he delivers the finishing blow, you will step in and kill Tiafell. I don't care what you do to him, all that matters is that you prevent him from destroying Dred. I need him alive so I can absorb him into my body and make his power mine forever!"

"Very well, that is acceptable. Thank you, Master!" Alto dropped to a knee in reverence. "I shall not let you down!"

"Excellent!" Esteban laughed. "Rejoice! You will be instrumental in ushering in an eternal age of vampires that I shall rule over! Pull this off, and I'll make you my right hand!"

"Thank you, sir!" Alto held his fist over his heart.

"Rest and relax until it is time to go. I want you at full capacity when the day comes."

"Sir!"

"Good. You may go, now." Alto stood and left the Vampire Lord alone.

"At last! A path for us to claim our rightful spot at the top of the food chain has presented itself! The time of humans and demons has come to an end. Now, the everlasting reign of nosferatu is upon us!!"

Esteban's ambition soared, his eternal vampire era was on the horizon, its birth only a few days away.

In a cave at the tallest peak of the Echoing Mountains, a dwarven man rocked in a chair near the entrance, smoking from a long pipe. He was short and chubby, but also muscular. The dwarf wore a thick cape draped around him. His copper-colored hair was long and curly, as was his beard, which stretched to his belly.

He exhaled, releasing a long string of smoke.

"Ah, the beginning of another day, just like all the others. More of the same thing, day in and day out."

A dwarven woman approached from behind, she was short and pudgy, but beautiful with long braided strawberry blonde hair.

"Orvik, honey, yer gonna catch yer death of cold if ye keep coming out here. What will I do with a frozen husband?"

"If I freeze solid, I'll never disappoint ye in bed again!" Orvik laughed.

"That's not funny! I worry!"

Orvik stood, cradling his wife in his arms. "Henzele, I never stay for long. I have one smoke of the mountain weed, then go back." He glanced at the blizzard roaring feet away from them. "The air out here is clean; it clears my head."

"I suppose our Chief does need to think clearly."

"That's right, I do." Orvik kissed her. "I'll be down soon."

"Ye had better!" Henzele pecked his cheek and returned to the underground village.

"I love that woman." Orvik finished his smoke.

The dwarven village was a busy one. Each building was carved out from the cavern walls and hollowed out. Thousands of torches kept the area well illuminated. Other than that, it was like any other town or village on the outside, with busy streets littered with hundreds of people, dwarves in this case, going about their day.

The citizens happily greeted their Chief on his way to the Town Hall. Entering his workspace on the third floor, Orvik hung his cape on a hook, revealing his thick muscular arms. He planted himself in his chair behind a large wooden desk.

"Now to business." The Chief put glasses on and got to work, sorting through documents.

An hour later, a young male dwarf entered the office.

"Chief Orvik, sir?"

"Aye, what is it?" Orvik lowered his spectacles onto the tip of his nose.

"Mr. Brunus is here, waiting to meet with ye."

"Ah, that fat bastard is probably pissed about me order to stop mining in the depts. I'll have a word with him." Orvik rose, pushing his chair under the desk. He placed his glasses inside a case.

Inside a meeting room, a morbidly obese, balding, middle-aged dwarf waited at a table, sitting on two stools. Two male assistants fanned him.

"How dare that young Chief interfere with me mining business!" Brunus slammed his fist on the table's surface. Orvik entered the room.

"I would appreciate ye not damaging me furniture." The Chief sat across from him, crossing his arms.

"And I would appreciate ye not sticking yer nose where it doesn't belong! Mining is how I earn a living!"

"Brunus, ye have more money than the rest of us combined. Ye have mined all the gold and gemstones anyone could ever need. Why mine more? Is what ye currently have not enough?"

"We cannot stay here forever! When the day we can leave this mountain comes, our people will need it all! Surely there are still humans out there in the rest of Gashua, we will need money to survive!"

"That is well and good, but ye are keeping it all for yerself! If ye cared about the rest of us, we would all be rich!"

"The rest of our people are too stupid to know how to use it! I will give them however much they need, nothing more!"

"So, that's yer excuse for yer greed?" Orvik rose, pressing his fists on the table as he leaned in. "Personally, I do not care about yer precious gold and gemstones. But if ye keep mining, we risk a cave in that could kill us all! What good would all those gemstones do when we're crushed under tons of rocks?"

"We know what we are doing, my family has been doing this for generations!"

"I am ordering ye to stop!" The Chief pointed at the fat dwarf. "If ye truly want to help, discover a way to get us out of here!"

"I wash my hands of ye! We're leaving!" Brunus stood. His henchmen grabbed his stools, then held the door open for him.
