Chapter 14: The Battle at Basilix Castle
Trista's castle seemed peaceful and mostly deserted during the day, most of the demons that dwelled within were nocturnal by nature. In the distance, a large army that numbered in the thousands was marching toward the structure. All of them were human, but of diverse ethnicities. Some were from Gashua while others were from Adrui, the continent on the other side of the world. They were also different types of warriors, such as swordsmen, mages, archers, and lancers. These brave fighters were a joint military force, a collaboration by their respective rulers to eliminate the threat that Trista and her forces posed to the entire world.
Meanwhile, Cardexx was in his quarters. His eyes were closed as he floated a few feet above the floor with his hands together and his legs folded under him. The door opened and Esteban walked in.
"Are you sleep when you do that?" he mockingly inquired. Cardexx opened his eyes and unfolded his legs, placing his feet on the floor.
"I am meditating, it keeps my mind clear and my emotions in check" he replied.
"I would likely need to do that if I were in your situation, SeΓ±or" he scoffed.
"What do you want, Esteban?"
"Hmph. That army we have been watching will be here at Basilix Castle in a few hours; I would prepare if I were you."
"I see."
"I shall go inform Lady Trista." Esteban turned to leave.
"I will inform Trista; you should worry about preparing your coven to face them." The two of them stared each other down for a few seconds. Esteban towered over him, but Cardexx was not intimidated in the slightest.
"Fine, have it your way" Esteban stepped out of his way, allowing him to leave. "You have no idea who you fuck with, CabrΓ³n. Should Lord Dred ever issue the command, I would be happy to show you." Esteban muttered before leaving the room.
Trista sat in front of a large mirror on the vanity table in her room, observing her eyes that were staying yellow. Despite the pang of despair in her heart, she applied makeup as if nothing was wrong. After applying everything else, she finished by sliding a tube of lipstick across her lips, coloring them black. She sucked her lips in for coverage, then puckered them out. As Trista finished applying her makeup, there was a knock on her door.
"Yes? Come in."
Cardexx opened the door. "Lady Trista, I have been informed that the army we have been watching will arrive this evening."
"I see. We will take the necessary steps to 'welcome' them. Let the others know."
"Understood" Cardexx closed the door and left. He took a deep breath, he hated the thought of it, but he knew there was no avoiding the bloodshed that was about to happen.
Trista sighed. "They have no idea what they are up against. This will be yet another act that will forever taunt my soul." She stood as female demons entered the room. First they striped her naked then draped her bare body with a dress that was designed to allow her to move freely. Next, they strapped armor around her chest and body, placing a horned helmet on her head and armguards. Once her staff manifested in her hand, she was ready for combat.
Cardexx prepared alone, stepping into thick boots and tying the laces. Then he tied greaves around his shins. Lastly, he pulled steel gauntlets over his hands and strapped armguards around his forearms, he wore no armor on his body. Once finished, he let a few punches fly, followed by some kicks into the air. With a stern expression, he hit his fists together, causing sparks to fly. The rest of their forces spent the rest of the morning and afternoon gathering weapons and armor. As the evening came, the joint army had surrounded the castle except for the back, which was facing the ocean. A gray-haired man wearing golden armor rode to the front of the crowd on his horse.
"This is it, what we have all come together for, this gathering made up of Gashuans and Adruians, banding together to fight a common enemy! This is where the demons and vampires that have plagued our lands and our homes in recent years have set up their base! Do not forget, they are led by a sorceress who is a succubus/elf hybrid. She will be the most beautiful woman you have ever seen, and she will attempt to seduce you, but you must resist her! She is a monster, just like the others that serve her! Strike them all down, show them the same brutality they have been showing our people!" He raised his sword and shouted a battle cry, his entire army doing the same. Pointing his weapon toward the castle, archers pulled their bows back and released flaming arrows that flew over the walls. The projectiles struck walls, the ground, and some demons, killing a few of them. Winged demons took to the sky above the castle walls, firing their own arrows and some using their own natural projectiles down such as needles, spikes, and fire. Many of the humans protected themselves with shields but some were struck down.
"Do not let up! Shoot them all out of the sky!!" the general shouted. Arrows continued to fly between the armies, with mages releasing spells of different elements at the air-borne creatures. The castle gates opened and released a horde of demons. There were various kinds of them: orcs, minotaurs, centaurs, arachne, bipedal lizard-like creatures, cyclopes, to name a few. Most of them carried shields and one-handed weapons but larger ones only wore armor, preferring to use their hands. The wave marched toward the humans.
The general raised his weapon. "Right wing, chaaaarge!!"
The right infantry rushed at the coming demon horde; their battle cries were deafening. The monsters responded by roaring and running to meet them. When the two groups collided, there was a thunderous collision of bodies and steel clashing together. It was an intense and bloody fight; humans were being torn or slashed to pieces with some of them being crushed by the larger demons. However, demons were also being killed. The smaller ones were going down as brutally as the humans were, with only the larger beasts having a clear advantage, but even those were falling due to humans working together against them, mages proving to be particularly effective against them. The grass was dyed red with blood as bodies, limbs, and entrails were spilled with every passing moment.
