Chapter 2: The Adventure Begins.. With a Nightmare

Tiafell had very pleasant dreams for the first half of the night, dreams of epic adventures, awe inspiring landscapes, and "rendezvous" with various people. However, his wonderful dreams were about to be rudely interrupted.

This dream began with Tiafell inside of an empty void with absolutely nothing around him. He looked around, calling out for someone to respond, only to hear nothing. He walked forward, continuing to call out but still heard no response.

"Where am I? This has to be a dream.." Tiafell said to himself, wrapping his arms around his chest to calm his nerves. Moments later, he felt a presence behind him, someone else was here after all, but the aura sent chills down his spine. He turned to see who or what was with him, his eyes widened as his blood ran cold.

Hovering before him was a black ghostly figure. It was a torso with no waist. It had a head and very long arms with long white claw-like nails on its fingertips that almost touched the ground. It had flowing white hair that moved as if it were being blown by the wind. Its face lacked a nose, mouth, and ears, only having glowing yellow irises with black slits for pupils with no visible sclera. Black ribbons flowed from its body in the same manner as its hair. Dark red vein-like markings lined its body and arms. Being an elf, Tiafell was sensitive to the aura and feelings of others, this figure radiated a terrifying aura unlike any he felt before. He felt that his life was in danger.

"E-Excuse me..? Do you know where we are? And may I ask you for your name?" He was almost too afraid to speak, barely getting the words out.

The figure chuckled and in a deep echoing male voice, it answered him in a language that Tiafell had never heard before. And yet, he somehow understood what the figure was saying to him.

"What do you mean that I 'need not worry about who you are'? And how is it that I can understand you? I have never heard that tongue before!" he stated, confusion adding to his fear.

The figure responded again, this time using the common tongue. "You will have the answers you seek when the time is right. Right now, you need only face your fears and leave that damned village. After all, you have a 'destiny', correct?" it said mockingly.

"Who or what are you??"

"As I said, you will have your answers when you are ready for them. But I will tell you this" the figure raised its hand, pointing its finger at the confused elf. "You and I have a lot in common. You will soon understand why..."

"What do you mean by that??"

The figure merely chuckled.

"Stop your mind games!! If you're not going to answer my questions, then leave me be!!" Tiafell demanded, irritation setting in.

"Such a demanding little elf, you need to be taught some manners!!", the figure roared and charged toward him, his hand reaching for his throat.

Tiafell screamed and lashed out, punching the air in front of him. He opened his eyes and saw that he was back in Vasati's bedroom, still in bed but alone.

"It was.. a nightmare.. Just a nightmare.." he sighed and realized that Vasati was gone. He then noticed that the sun had just risen, she must have had some business with the Village Guard. Standing up, he discovered that his clothes had been folded neatly and placed on a dresser. As he approached to get dressed, he saw a letter lying on his clothes. He opened it and read.

"Tiafel,

I understand your desire to leave, this village is not your home. A part of me wishes that I could talk you into staying, but I feel in my heart that you do indeed have a purpose out there somewhere, go and find it but please be careful. There are many dangers beyond the forest, some we know about and some we don't.

Anyway, I wish I could see you off personally but my heart couldn't bear watching you leave for good. Please find Alto and say goodbye to him as well before you leave the forest.

I had a dream last night that the three of us reunited out there somewhere, it filled my heart with hope that we will all be together again one day. Until then, I wish you all the best. Please stay safe!

Sincerely,

Vasati"

Wiping tears from his eyes, Tiafell took a piece of paper from a nearby desk in the bedroom and wrote a small note.

"Thank you for everything. I wish that you and Alto could come with me, but I wouldn't dare pull you both away from your duties. But don't worry, we will see each other again! Until then, goodbye my friend, be well" he spoke as he wrote, leaving the paper on the desk.

After getting dressed, he left Vasati's home and went back to his own. Going into his bedroom, he changed into the outfit he had prepared for the day, a sleeveless green tunic with a brown skirt and black tights. His boots matched his skirt. He fitted a belt around his waist that held the sheath of his blade and threw a quiver containing his arrows around his shoulder, donning a green cloak with a hood around his neck after that. Lastly, he tied a satchel containing a small amount of gold to his belt and another containing berries and other small fruit. He could sleep outside and hunt for food if he needed to, but he would still need more gold eventually. He could work for it if necessary. After picking up his bow, he had everything he needed for his journey. He opened the door leading outside and took one last look at his home as he stepped out and closed the door behind him.

As he made his way through the village, none of the villagers said a word to him. To them, Tiafell was going on a simple hunting trip, not that they would have cared if he left or ever came back. Once he was outside of the village, he looked back at it one last time. An apathetic expression formed on his face as he turned to venture into the forest.

The forest that housed the village was vast and treacherous, Tiafell would have to walk until nightfall, sleep, and then travel more the next day before he would exit the forest. But first, he had to find Alto. He planned to hunt something for a proper supper later. After hours of walking, it was time to hunt. He readied an arrow from his quiver, then began to look for prey. He came across big black feathers from a creature called "gigas raven". These large birds were as big as an elf and were considered a delicacy among the villagers.

Tiafell followed the trail of feathers and soon found the bird perched on a branch. He readied his bow and let an arrow fly. It whistled through the air and hit its target. The bird fell lifelessly from the tree and hit the ground. Just as he stood to retrieve his bounty, he heard a voice from the bushes nearby.

"What the- who else is here??" the voice shouted. Tiafell knew who this was.

"Alto, it's me!" he shouted back. A young male elf emerged from the bushes. He had short blonde hair and a slender build.

"Tiafell? I should have known, no one lets an arrow fly like you do", he said, shaking his head but smiling.

"Hey, Vasati told me that you were out here. How has your mission been going?" he asked, placing his hands on his hips.

"So far it's not going well" Alto said, slouching. "I suck at this hunting thing.."

Tiafell smiled. "Since I'm out here, why don't I teach you a few things?" he suggested.

"Would you? You're the best!" Alto exclaimed, throwing his fist into the air. He had always looked up to Tiafell and Vasati, being the least skilled of the three.

The two elves spent the rest of the afternoon gathering herbs and spices, not only for the bird but also to check off the list that Alto was assigned. Tiafell gave him tips and demonstrated them, with the younger elf taking mental notes. This went on until sunset, when it was time to cook the gigas raven.
