Halsin sat poking a dwindling fire. He had found a goblin helmet, filled it with water and some vegetables with a few bones from the Worgs that had died in the fight for his freedom.
"Hu hu. Not bad, Halsin." He mutters to himself happily.
"That smells good." He heard a female voice over his right shoulder and jumped.
"Holy sh-!!!" He clutches his chest, looking at you with a terrified gaze. You are very ghost, or banshee-like when seen in the dark, so you can't really blame him.
You squat down like nothing happened. "What's cookin' good lookin'?" You ask innocently. Halsin breaths to calm himself, his features slowly becoming less beastlike as he regards you more rationally within the light of the fire.
"Please do not sneak up on a person like that." He begs, taking in your look. A smile crosses his lips.
"That aside. You must be the missing element of the party that rescued me."
"That's me. They say anything about me?"
He nods. "They said that you have a very intriguing personality-"
Your jaw drops. "That's so nice... That's such a generous way to put it." You are genuinely touched. You wonder who it was that offered the description.
"Then the half-elf cleric corrected the tiefling and said that you are completely insane. The handsome man with snow-white hair laughed at that and did not seem to disagree."
Your shoulders slump. "Karlach... my only friend." You get over it quickly and shrug.
"Oh well! How're you? Why're you staying here?"
"Because I am awaiting the defeat of the three leaders of this fortress."
"We're two outta three right now."
"I can assist you. Your party refused to bring me along without saying why, so I continue to wait here for word of their success."
"It's probably all the weird shit they think I'll do." You sigh wearily.
"I'm not so unpredictable... I can make a good impression."
"I can see that." Halsin nods.
You stare at him, licking your lips. "So, uh... You can turn into a bear?"
"I can." He lifts his bushy brows.
"How... Uhm..." You are hesitant, since this new person could be scared off easily with your admittedly disgusting antics. You nervously think of how to broach the subject only for his eyes to light up. Halsin points to his chest with his thumb, wide grin crossing his lips.
"It's huge!" He claims.
"Woooah!" Your eyes twinkle.
He chuckles at your reaction, nodding slowly to himself. "Then I shift and it gets even bigger."
You realise the joke he made and clap excitedly. "Woooooah!!!"
"Are you a freak like me?" You ask openly.
"I am offended by the question." The tall, well-built Druid scoffs.
"I think there is nothing freaky about two -or more- beings born of nature embracing carnally in a consensual manner. If the parties agree, we should have it be our goal to-" You both spoke the last part at the same time with you figuring out what he was going to say to say it with him.
"-make the gods blush!"
You and Halsin both perform a double take. He looks at you in shock and you look at him. You both speak at once again.
"Did we just become best friends!?"
"Yes!" You exclaim, raising your hand. The Druid high-fives you.
"Excellent! A kindred spirit."
