Authors Note: For those who have not read my bio, please note I write as a form of therapy for a Traumatic Brain Injury. I know the English majors will probably encounter issues that annoy them. If these are your focus, instead of the story itself, then this is not the story for you. I am not and will never be a professional writer.
I do it to tell the story, for those who wish to read them. I originally submitted this story back in mid-2017 to mid-2018. I have worked to try and improve my writing style while struggling with this issue. I have added some editing software and written a few other stories. Now I am revising and editing this earlier work to try and bring it up to a higher standard from what I have managed to learn over the last few years.
Chapter 32
The Growth of Love
Eldar nodded and looked at the gardener as they left the area, "Well, what do you think of what I planted?"
He smiled, "It will be beautiful."
Eldar smiled at him, "Tranosa would you let my House Guards know I want a 2-man guard detail on this location day and night until further notice."
He nodded but had noticed how Eldar was leaning on him more during this time.
Eldar looked at Charlemagne. "I told Tranosa he was the likely candidate to replace you due to your new rank."
Charlemagne smiled, "What did he say?"
Eldar laughed, "After moaning about it he wanted to know what it entailed. I told him that would be something to talk over with you."
Charlemagne smiled. "You are right and from what I hear Goldeagle is yours?"
Eldar nodded, "The Queen jumped out of her chair when I told her that. I told her I was already looking to make him the adjunct commander of the fort. Now I can make him the Commander of it once it is built. I will make him a Commander well before that. Very soon in fact."
Eldar looked at Jarron, "You can let our friends know that when Charlemagne leaves her position, we will have someone trained to take over. We are already planning ahead. It benefits us both."
Jarron sighed and nodded, "Then another raise for him, and whoever you put in his place."
Eldar nodded, "I am thinking I might put a dwarf in his slot. I got two candidates for Captain right now. I wish I could see the fight."
Jarron looked at him quizzically, "What fight?"
Eldar smiled, "Those 2 against Tiger in unarmed combat."
Jarron laughed, "If it is anything like the Academy display some dwarves are going to be shocked. Yes, I heard about that."
Eldar smiled, "I got their ire up before I left. Told them to make sure that they had a cleric on hand in case the dwarves needed one."
Jarron laughed. "Why did you do that?"
Eldar smiled, "Because they took one look at Tiger and laughed. I let them know who my money was on."
Hunter came up and motioned for him to step aside, "What can I do for you great teacher of the hunt?"
He looked at Eldar, "You knew last night but did not call me out about it."
Eldar nodded, "I have great respect for you and my Aunt. I let her know last night. Doc learned this morning with my ladies standing there, after dealing with my stepmother. I told her to talk to you about it. But the circle is small. Until Doc opens his mouth to Eagle-eye. Charlemagne and Annette know how I feel about my Aunt.
We do not want to hurt her or see her hurt. Just the opposite, I wanted her to find a cure for her broken heart, just like you. Did she tell you I pointed you out to her? I told her I was looking for someone to help heal your broken heart. Hard for a cleric to turn down."
Hunter laughed, "You played her right into my hands. Thanks, for trusting me. With your Aunt even."
Eldar nodded, "I figured if my father can have a child with a Wood Elf and produce me, imagine what the two of you can produce!"
Hunter laughed, "Regardless, that was no easy task."
Eldar shook his head, "I just needed to find the right woman with the right set of circumstances who you could bond with. Did you get your happy ending before Doc interrupted?"
Hunter laughed, "Just barely! Damned you and that hearing."
Eldar looked at him, "I am not taking you and Eagle-eye on this mission because it is all corridors and inside of a palace. Not great for bows. Taking Skinner in is like saying, 'We want to rob you!' same for Cook. It is a diplomatic investigation first."
Hunter nodded, "So a personal bodyguard that you can triple?"
Eldar nodded and turned his head, "I need to go and take care of a heated discussion at the front gate between Doc and Instructor Moon Bow."
He looked across the distance and shook his head as Eldar mounted up and rode out to the gate.
He looked at Moon Bow, "Do not shoot the messenger, I am the one who told him to let you know discreetly."
Moon Bow looked at Eldar, "Apparently my cousin, his wife, did not get that message!"
Eldar looked at Doc, "Go get Eagle-eye."
He looked at Moon Bow, "Who did she tell?"
Moon Bow looked at him, "My wife! She is threatening to leave me!"
Eldar shrugged, "This is a problem why? New laws, marry your lover. Tell your wife she can complain to the Queen who is going to laugh at her for not joining you in bed more often. Instead of the 3 handmaidens, she likes to play with. That should shut her up. Oh, and your stable boy. That is closer to her molesting him. I do not even believe he is an adult yet. Not for several months anyway."
Moon Bow looked at Eldar, "You do this to a lot of people!?"
Eldar shook his head and then shrugged, "I do it to a lot of people who force me to focus on them for some time. Usually, someone who is angry about something or wanting something like answers. Also, those who earned my wrath like a Rogue Blade Singer."
Moon Bow nodded, "Word of that fight spread throughout the Academy like wildfire, getting distorted. I spoke with the new Head Grand Master. He was glad you found him and upheld the code. He was not a fan of you when you were at the Academy. None were except your instructor.
But they have grown to respect you for what you have done in such a short time. Some of these rings you returned were over 5,000 years old. Some were in houses that are long dead. Still, it has been a trove of returns that have not been seen in the history of the Academy since the end of the Dragon Wars anyway."
Eldar looked at him, "I returned them to him because the code required it. I think they are also a bit scared because of how fast I killed him. I hope I put the fear of the Gods into anyone watching who was even thinking of going rogue."
Moon Bow nodded, "I think you put them on notice. Several were scared after watching that. Then you explained the whole trial by combat. Your brother was shocked for days."
Eldar sighed, "I asked him to not be there. It was his choice to be there. He saw the darker side of the order and what was required to uphold the code."
He smiled, "Here comes my cousin, I will leave her to you. I have a wife to talk to and a Blade Singer."
Eldar laughed. "See you here tomorrow with the Battle Mages, first thing in the morning."
He turned, "The Queen is taking me, but she is requesting the top Battle Mages from the Army to be here."
Eldar nodded, "She is taking my hunches to be fact. So far, they have been for good and bad yet accurate. By the way, your girlfriend has a lovely sister who is 50 years older and adventurous. Might make it a double wedding."
Moon Bow rode off laughing at him while he considered his words.
Eldar looked at Eagle-eye, "You just had to tell her? I had to give all the shit she has been doing to him so he had the dirt on her to be happy with us again."
She looked down as she knew he was not pleased with her stunt. "Please let Doc handle the notification and let them work it out. I know it can be fun when it is family but still."
She smiled, "Alright, I will behave."
Eldar smiled at her, "Tell Doc you are owed 50 swats on your bare bottom! He better get started!"
She laughed and ran off. He went to the stable and took care of removing the gear, brushing, feeding, and then left T'sarus to his ladies. He saw Guard New Moon out on a stroll and Eldar motioned him to come over.
Eldar looked at him, "Ask me your question? The one nagging at you."
He looked at Eldar, "How did you get all this gear? What is going on with you and the Gray Blades? They are more than they appear."
