POSSESSED BY BORED GEEKS FROM ANOTHER WORLD

Chapter 12 OWL party taking care of business

Richard Goldman POV

Rich thought it went well. He got to kill some goblins and help out the folks in the other dimension. He actually felt like he could wield a real sword now. He was glad it had not been all blood and gore and it was fun being there with his friend Hans, he felt they bonded.

More importantly Hans had possessed the tall thin fire witch. With her thin body and silver hair reminiscent of fashion models he had dated and fucked, she was surprisingly hot. The manliest man he knew had become a tall thin damsel in the fantasy world, now Rich could mount her without qualms.

He had gotten over the terrible feeling of reaching for his dick and finding it gone. Losing control and leaking. It was a drinking/woman's bladder issue anyway and will never happen again. Beside that everyone thought a drunk had spilled beer on him. It was a non-issue.

He thought being a man would be the end of all his issues. If only the fire mage was a male everything would be all right. Unfortunately, he had to admit when he went for a leak, Clay's cock felt thicker and heavier than his real one. It was an uncut monster. He wanted to pull the foreskin back on it to see how it felt and see what the tip looked like, but he could not bring himself to do it. Rich normally beat off a couple times a week, not because he could not get enough pussy, he could get all the ass he wanted. He still jacked off because he felt it was a different part of his sex life. He started playing with himself when he was too young for a woman and never really stopped even when he was getting it all the time in college. Jacking off when he rode Clay seemed too 'gay' to Rich. He knew he could not do it.

He tried asking Un about relative size when Un was riding the Amazon. Un told him it was meaningless, "We are in a different dimension. Everyone here could be the size of an ant. There is no way or need to compare." Rich felt that did not really answer his question.

Rich did not feel he would want a mount with a smaller package than his either. Maybe he just had a frail male ego, but it might be better not having any external junk than having to reconcile a sausage with a big difference in size. Better to have everything neatly tucked away.

He thought he had been clever making an excuse to leave so that Twilight would come and play with Hans. He actually thought they would switch mounts, but they ended up riding the same ones until the end. He felt like a matchmaker. They were husband and wife, but he brought them together in another world.

Time to concentrate on making money in the real world. Time to get serious. Time to turn a profit...

"I wonder if Clay just has really small hands?"

Trey POV

Trey had joined OWL during phase 2, just before everything went to hell. It is hard to believe now, but Un was her original sponsor. She wanted to use the OWL equipment to detect and probe weak spots between dimensions. Her older brother and sister had disappeared when she was a child. They had vanished from an area with a long history of people going missing. Their bodies were never found. The man who confessed to the crime was crazy and would confess to anything the cops wanted him to. The DA accepted his confession and gave him a plea bargain. He spent the rest of his life in prison confessing to any crime in the headlines. On the day Trey's siblings disappeared the man was being held in the city drunk tank.

The DA thought he was a copy-cat criminal since there was a long history of people vanishing from that area. (Over 100 years.)

Trey was convinced for various reasons that there was a weak spot in the border between worlds where her family members disappeared. Un did not believe there were other worlds that could be reached through weak spots, but did think the OWL equipment would prove that to her. In return for his help Trey would come on board and streamline their financial structure. Since they were hauling in insane amounts of money at the time it was pretty obviously part of Un' plan to get Trey to face reality stop believing her brother and sister were still alive and get on with her life. His plan fell apart when they found another world on the other side of the weak points Trey had detected.

They also discovered that the world of magic did not need a physical link on the target subject to forge a connection. That made no sense, but over time they would discover that mental telepathy, translocation and mystic locomotion were accepted reality on the other side of the portal. Possession worked for the same reason perpetual motion worked. They had already found several voluntary hosts before Phase 2 went down in flames.

Phase 2 was a Du brainchild. They took technology targeted for a medical miracle and repurposed it for entertainment. Sort of like how Ben Franklin used his experiments with electricity to shock and titillate the ladies of Marie Antoinette's court and gain her support for the American Revolution rather than create an electric light or a motor. In Franklin's defense he had already created daylight saving time to conserve candles and may not have needed a light bulb. Marie did send Lafayette to help with the revolution and dedicated a hairdo to the declaration of independence before losing her head.

Phase 2 was simple. Recruit volunteers to act as mounts to people willing to pay for the unique experience of walking a mile in another man's shoes. Or literally walking in another man. The legal contracts were prodigious. Filled with non-discloser acts and confidentiality clauses. There were exit polls, and reporting systems set in place to ensure that neither the riders or the mounts would suffer any harm. Expectations were spelled out in writing, laws were observed, contracts were specific and iron clad. Nothing could go wrong. Until it did.

A former employee, a mount, decided four months after quitting that he had not been paid enough. His claim was based on the fact that the company had gone through their initial startup and was now incredibly profitable. Basically, "Looking back I want more money!" It was a ridiculous claim that opened a tiny leak in the dam. Nobody stuck their finger in it. Momentum built, iron clad contracts were busted, non-disclosures were disclosed, people who had never said a discouraging word or had any issue with phase 2 were jumping into class action suits trying to win money for their issues that could only be cured with a check. The stock tanked. The people involved with Phase 2 found themselves deeply in debt before stopping the bleeding.

OWL discovered civil juries only needed to be 51% sure to decide against them. 1% more than not being able to decide at all. Un who had spent his life working for the betterment of mankind found himself publicly renounced as a money hungry monster. The love of his life could not handle the bad press and divorced him. He felt incredible shame that he could not insure her comfortable retirement. He became a bitter man.

Trey lobbied for Phase 3. She wanted to find her brother and sister, she wanted to find a way to bring them home, she wanted to end summoning's. In order to do those things OWL needed to survive. The blue print for the new program was phase 2. The key difference was that all of the rides would be in the other dimension. Problems with rider's contracts were plugged, claims were nerfed, non-disclosures were reiterated. The legal actions against phase 2 forged the changes for the contract for phase 3. There was very little a rider could do against the company. OWL used slightly modified VR pods for their riders. The pods could still be used for gaming. They were left with very little to be liable for on Earth.

Most of the contracts in Iron Port were verbal. OWL went above and beyond the standard by putting it in writing. They were careful what they promised but since it was a dangerous world they acknowledged the possibility of hazards, known and unknown. For instance, if a rider engaged in repetitive motions the mount was at risk for repetitive motion injuries. Since more people died of hunger or exposure in the City of Iron Port, than died of carpal tunnel people were not too worried about repetitive injuries. Law suits were quite rare in this fantasy world and usually involved guilds or religions, groups with deep pockets directing their venom against each other. This meant the chance of having a huge judgement against them was really small. The fact that it was virtually impossible to exchange inorganic (non-living) material between dimensions made paying a judgement from headquarters impossible.

Un was able to develop a transceiver using organic circuitry and deliver self-reproducing nano-bots as a subcutaneous injection (a dissolving dart) to the mount's buttocks. Technically the hardware could be called alive. This vastly improved the connectivity, theoretically making it possible to ride anywhere in that world.

Visiting another world in the body of a native there became a very high-end vacation. An entertainment for the very rich.

Scientists who studied physics stated that to actually make a pathway to another dimension you would need a source of energy on the level of a black hole. It was impossible. OWL was obviously a very sophisticated VR game program.

There was no one on the OWL team who could program games much less VR games. Actual programmers pointed out that OWL could not be a game. Games are interactive. There is no ongoing interaction for traveling to another world. Your spirit is uploaded at the start of your session and downloaded at the end of your session. Otherwise, nothing typically happens.

There is no interaction because your soul is not in your body. It is busy living in the host in the other world. Science does not believe in souls or spirits so this theory was shot down too.

Rather than try to claim anything OWL just states the details of the system are not supported by science as we know it. That what we are doing is not possible. OWL does guarantee an out of body experience. If you don't have one, your money is refunded and you are blacklisted.

For some reason Un holds me responsible for most of our troubles. Du forged our original contract, not me. The verdict of the jury was an emotional one, not a just one. I believe we will be vindicated over time, which is why we take a portion of our profits and continue to challenge all of the judgements against us. We will still be contesting this when our grandkids are graduating from college.

The bad press is impossible to control. That is why we are incredibly low key. We do have an advertising budget to cautiously and generically promote ourselves. Out of the World Lifestyles advertises unique/non-specific vacations and holidays. Our campaigns are more geared toward the executives' discouraging editors from attacking their advertisers then winning market share. There is no real competition.

Un thinks I am responsible for making the OWL party work. That has never been part of my responsibility, that is all on Two-bit.

Un thinks I need to spend more time riding in the other world. Most of my official duties are here on Earth. I am not certain mounting other willing intelligent beings for entertainment is a justifiable action. I am convinced kidnaping folks from Earth is immoral. That said, I do mount up on occasion.

My hope is that I can restore Un' fortune and reputation one day while accomplishing my goals. I really hope to see my brother and sister again. I pray I can stop the fantasy world from kidnapping our citizens.

Master Stylus Goldmann POV

Desdemona made an appointment to see me today. She is the new steed the agents, Sara and Faux recruited. Everyone is quite excited about her in the OWL party. I thought she wanted more help figuring out her reimbursement since she seems determined to solve the formula.

We actually discussed several topics, but that was not one of them.

She wanted to stop getting paid when Blade mounted her. He has been training her in body strengthening and swordsmanship. OWL does not generally charge him when he rides, but writes it off as a training expense. OWL does not charge the administrators Un, Du, Trey or Two-bit either. The party does pay the steed when she (or he) is used though.

Desdemona explained that she felt Blade's lessons were a huge help to her and wanted to cancel her payment to encourage Blade to continue. "This way his only investment is his time." It was an unusual request, but easy enough to accomplish.

Next, she wanted to let me know she had taken up dungeon diving when she had free time on her hands. She usually went with the agents and the cat person who was her personal maid. That they had started inviting Capt. Ilsa as well. OWL has a unique contract with our party members, one the guild is not happy with. Desdemona understands our easy lifestyle is dependent on subjugating monsters. She also recognized some of our riders have no interest in harvesting monsters. Her dives are aimed at maintaining liquidity while she looks for alternate sources of income.

She really is a sweet girl. She reminds me of my granddaughter.

Finally, she wanted me to know she had finally written her parents to let them know she was alive. She arranged delivery of her letter through the guild and gave her parents access to her guild account. This way they could draw from it and confirm she was alive by witnessing activity on her account. It is nice to see a young person try to be supportive of their parents these days, so many only know how to take.

I think she will be the one leading the party into the future.
