Quill stretched as he got out of the hover cab, ears flickering. He was a vampiricaes, an offshoot of humans that had taken on more bat-like features, big ears, snout and a short tail as well as fur. He had just spent over two weeks on a repair that would have taken two days if they had sent the right parts for an old hyper-drive. He just needed a drink and a break from the clients incessant chattering. The universal translator was only barely able to keep up with them and made for a piercing headache. Now, however, it was time for a drink. The cab driver told him that this little watering hole was always decently quiet and had better prices than uptown and tourist traps. He didn't even read the name as he rode the elevator up. Smoothing his long hair and brushing out his short beard, he checked his datapad and set it to silent. Outside, rain poured and neon lights and hologram shows sizzled as the thrum of the city fell away.
As Quill entered, cleaning his glasses, he was delighted to see an old terran style bar, wooden fixtures, led lights retrofitted to look like filament bulbs. It was unsurprisingly empty, as it was still early afternoon. A larger woman stood behind the bar cleaning cups and idly puttering. She was easily 10 feet tall at a glance, short black hair and amber skin bathed in the off yellow ceiling lights, she hummed as she worked. Quill was immediately distracted by her huge chest and belly, jiggling as she worked, contained by a white t-shirt that might have been a size or two too small, if only because they didn't make many shirts in her size. She smiled as Quill sat at the bar and spoke.
"Heya stranger, welcome! What's your poison for tonight?" She asked, her voice with the hint of echo and reverb. Quill could tell she was a cyborg of some degree, manufacturer and joint lines decorated her hands. "The name is Katea, what's yours?"
"I'm uh, I'm Quill, and if you have it, a gin martini, extra dirty?" Quill coughed. Katea smiled warmly as she turned and reached up for a clear bottle. Whoever designed Katea's chassis clearly had a goal in mind, considering Katea's rear more than matched her breasts. Katea turned back and started mixing, before placing it before Quill,
"So, what brings you to our backwoods planet? Can't imagine it's for the sights..." Katea said. She wasn't wrong, most of the planet didn't have much going for it visually, it had mostly been colonized and not much of the original planet was visible, which already wasn't much. It had started as mostly dead rock and scrub and a few small oceans, but now served as a trade hub and banking settlement before you hit the unexplored zone.
Quill bitback his gut reaction to say 'you're obviously an exception'. He was nowhere near drunk enough to be flirting with strangers quite yet. "I'm doing an on-site repair job, some dumbass overdrive his sub-space stabilizer, I had to fix it and fix it again and now i'm on it's third repair because the guy keeps blasting every component as soon as he hits void" Quill sighed "And of course, main office wants me to set up an office here because they think it's gonna be a great place for repairs and services." He shook his head and sipped at his drink.
"Well! You know that if we get some real rich schmucks coming through, you'd probably make a killing." Katea countered "Hell, hire some helpers and you can bill yourself as a 'luxury service' "!
"I ain't gonna tell you what kind of customers you get through here, but 'rich schmucks' are arguably the worst!" Quill said before putting on a nasally high pitched voice "I want the luxury upgrade, but I don't want to pay for it, but I want it to look like I spend hundreds of thousands of Denarii, but I want it to be heat resistant, but I want it gold plated" Quill broke off laughing at his own joke. Katea joined in his laugh, not that half laugh most bartenders give, but something a bit more genuine, She had apparently had experience with similar customers and clients. Quill felt a bit more relaxed as the martini warmed his belly and the friendliness warmed his heart.
They went back and forth for a while, exchanging stories and anecdotes. Neither of them pressed anything too personal, but they found a rhythm. Quill and Katea weren't interrupted, and without customers, Katea was able to simply kill time, and Quill didn't have any plans for the rest of the day. As Quill wound down a story Katea fixed him with an odd stare, her eyes softening and a soft smile. "You're a bit lonely, aren't you?" Katea asked; Quill froze "You've been bouncing around planet to planet for a while, no real home yeah? Ya know, I might have someone you should meet" Katea said "You'd like her, she's damn smart too, and an engineer too!"
"Yeah?" Quill asked "I mean, you're not wrong, but, like I don't wanna break any hearts" Quill countered.
"Look, she's not looking for anything serious, I think you both definitely need a break, why not give it a shot?" Katea asked.
"I mean, if you were gonna steal my kidney, you would have spiked my drink I suppose. Alright, I'll at least MEET her" Quill relented.
"Hell yea, just hang around, I don't think it'll get too busy today, there's some tech demo expo happening" Katea explained. She had sidled closer and leaned over, her chest resting on the steel bartop. Quill swallowed and could feel heat rush to his cheeks, fighting to look her in her dark eyes. "And she's a bit more your speed, I might be a bit too much for you sugah." Katea must have timed it purposefully as Quill choked and coughed martini all over the bartop; olives scattering to the floor and dark corners. Katea giggled as Quill fought to recover himself. As Katea stepped away to fix a new drink, Quill could see the massive bulge in the front of her pants and frankly understood. She was packing in everything it seemed.
"No, yeah, I mean, I didn't mean uh.." Quill choked out "yeah, you can just shoot me now"
Katea laughed again "Nah, I still want you to meet my friend, if you screw that up, maybe then" and she smiled. 'Here, let me call her," Katea said as she placed a new drink in front of Quill, before she stepped away through a door behind the bar. Quill considered his drink while she was gone. Someone as modded and stacked up as her could have friends on either end of the spectrum. Hell, they may not even be bipeds; then again, that hadn't stopped Quill before. with the fingers of alcohol already working to massage Quill's anxiety into excitement. He waited and started to get up, to book it out the open door in concern for his own safety, but paused before deciding he was committed. He did need a break, bonus points if it was a hot and sweaty break. Worst case, all he agreed to was to just meet Katea's friend.
What Quill wasn't expecting to see Katea return with said friend in tow. She was notably shorter, almost five feet to Quill's own six, but the height difference between Katea and her friend was almost comical. Katea bent over and whispered into her friend's ear before waving Quill over. Katea's friend had darker skin, like chocolate, short feathered black hair that faded through purple into pink in her bangs and undercut with 2 long locks framing her face. What was most notable was that she was a cyclops, a large single expressive purple eye focused on Quill, looking him over. Quill was briefly reminded of a microscope, which was only accentuated by her grease stained lab coat and simple under clothes. She was clearly an engineer or scientist, but Quill didn't see an ID card on her, just the clip.
"See! Ain't she cute!" Katea sang out. "She's been cooped upstairs working and hasn't seen sunlight in about a week, so Mr Quill is here to rescue you!" Katea directed that last part at her cyclops friend. The cyborg was frowning "This is my friend I was telling you about, her name is Nios!"
"Howdy Nios, I'm uh, Quill, I'm sure Katea has already exaggerated me to no end." Quill said, extending his hand in a basic greeting. Nios did the same and let a polite smile crease her face.
"Hi" was all Nios said and let her hand linger in Quill's; Quill toyed with kissing her hand, but didn't choose to do so, he didn't want to press too hard, she was visibly uncomfortable. He didn't want to make himself a fool too early. They both started as Katea slowly began to push the duo to a nearby booth. They sat down opposite to each other and before either of them could speak, Katea had stepped away and disappeared through the door to the kitchen. Both of them watched her before Quill began to laugh.
"I guess she has a plan for us," Quill said, looking back to Nios. "At what point do we have a choice in this?" He asked.
"Sometimes she gets like this, the best we can do is either run away or go with it" Nios affirmed.
