Chapter 60

JONNY ZANTANA

Morning Day 28

Jonny Zantana

"I need to go hit something." I left the room before I forced Jane into the basement. She would be safe behind the steel bars. She would hate me but at least she would be alive. Until Jess got a hold of her. I never wanted to hit a woman before but I could put Jess in my secret room and peel her demon lips from her demon face.

I stopped in the kitchens before heading down to the gym. "Send breakfast to Jane and her friends. They're going to need their energy today," I instructed the Head Chef.

He nodded. "On it, boss."

I climbed into the ring and motioned for my opponent to step forward. I had no time for formalities and swung at the new recruit.

He dodged and it made me angrier. I swung again connecting my bare fist with his eye this time. His brow split open and blood ran down his cheek.

It made me smile.

"You're a fucking psychopath." Victor shook his head and puffed on a fat cigar in the corner. "Train them, don't fucking kill them." He gestured to the new recruits.

The one in the ring gave a solid punch to the side of my face. It knocked something loose and energized me even more.

I kicked out as the kid got closer, making contact with his chest.

He landed flat on his back and didn't get up.

Victor knelt to check his pulse and gestured for the medics to carry him out. "He'll be alright." He shrugged and leaned against the ropes.

"Your turn." I told him. I held my hands up to protect my face and danced around him.

He scoffed. "With you? Never again, Brother. I don't think that death magic, candle, bullshit will bring me back to life like it does with Diego's stupid ass."

Victor always knew how to make me laugh. Which lightened my mood and cleared my head from the anger. "Security for tonight is good?"

He nodded and puffed on his cigar. "Got a special letter from the jungle this morning."

"Our sister?"

He nodded and puffed. "She found the cursed gold, had some difficulty but she fucking found it." He said it quietly. Almost like he was afraid or in awe, it was hard to tell with him sometimes.

I stood next to him and we stared out at the recruits practicing, weight lifting, jogging on the treadmills.

"She had to off the guy helping her."

I nodded, she always did. "Please tell me it was after he turned the cursed gold into bullets? The only way we're going to get rid of Jess is with those fucking magic bullets."

He nodded. "She didn't say. Let's hope she makes it back in time. It's a long flight from the jungles of South America."

I grunted as Diego, stupid ass, walked up to the ring. "Your turn brother." I moved away from the ropes to let him enter.

He climbed up and handed Victor a black gym bag. "We don't have time. We need to get you ready for the ceremony tonight. Can't be a King looking like-" He looked me up and down and sniffed at the air, making a face. "-That."

Victor lifted out a thick black candle from the bag. "There's three candles in here."

He looked at me expectantly.

"In case...Jane needs it."

Victor shook his head. "Got it, Your Majesty. I'm guessin' it's the same as last time? Put the candles on your dead bodies and say the magic fucking words?"

Diego nodded.

Afternoon Day 28

The tailor adjusted my sleeves as I stood in front of the mirror, looking at my brothers instead of my reflection in a formal suit.

The man with the pins moved away from me and I pulled out my phone. I hadn't told Jane about the ceremony tonight. She had enough to think about with the ritual. The less distracting her the more she would be able to focus on taking care of herself.

"You sent the dress with her?" I asked the mirror.

"With Ben's new girlfriend." Victor nodded as he texted on his phone.

We are all meeting for dinner in the banquet room. Your friend can help you get dressed. I texted Jane.

Evening Day 28

"That's my girl. We stay and fight for what's ours." I kissed Jane again and wanted nothing more to take her away from all this, keep her safe somewhere. It took everything in my power to step away from her. Instead of killing Bishop I told her, "Bishops here now. You won't be able to see me but I'll be watching you. I'll see you after. No matter what." I wanted her to believe me. To make it true. No matter what.

I don't know how I walked away from her and let another man step into my place. I clenched my jaw enough to make my teeth creek and quickly went to my security location before I ran back to Jane, picked her up, even if she protested, and carried her away from all this. But she had Demons to face, literally and figuratively and I wanted to be there with her, to help her. She didn't need to do this alone. This was the best way, even if it meant I wasn't physically next to her.

My men were all in place. Every inch of this Lodge was covered in security or cameras.

I unlocked the door to the security camera room and locked it behind me. One of my most trusted men, besides my brothers, was scanning over the tv screens. I rounded the corner and that's when I noticed her.

Jess. Sitting casually next to my soldier. Her hand on his arm, petting him like a dog. It enraged me, I pulled my gun and emptied my clip into her. Her head, her neck, her chest.

She did nothing but sit there, smiling at me. The bullet holes healed before my eyes and I stepped back, pulling a knife from my pants and keeping it hidden.

She stood and walked toward me. "I'll make you a deal, Juan Zantana."

"I don't make deals with Demons."

She laughed. "If only that were true." She put her hand on her bony hip. "Kiss me and I won't kill your brother."

Diego should have been here by now. We were supposed to meet here first and then do our rounds.

She smiled. "Your brother has a thing for blondes. He's too easy."

I glared at her.

"If I drain him, which I crave...if I drain him like that, his stupid little candles won't bring him back."

Fuck.

"Just a little kiss," she whispered and stepped closer to me. "Then we can all be together, forever." Her hands wrapped around my neck and I jerked back from her bumping into Diego behind me.

He slipped a silver chain around my neck. "It's okay brother, I got this one."

My vision fogged over and I sat down in an empty chair. A blissful, peaceful feeling engulfed my senses. I felt warm and drifted into a sea of soft lulling waves.

Jess's long bony fingers had my chin.

I wanted to push her away but my limbs felt like thousand-pound weights.

Her lips touched mine and a prickly sensation skidded over my skin unpleasantly.

In the distance Jess called my name, "Juan Zantana, you belong to me now."

"I belong to you," I repeated back to her fighting against every cell in my being not to.

"You will do as I tell you, I am your Queen."

"Yes, My Queen." I couldn't stop myself.

"You will find Ruby Vale, a dangerous Sex Demon that's infiltrated your men, she's going to use her Magic to turn them all against you. She might not like the necklace you're wearing but don't take it off. Bring her to me and bleed her when I command it."

"Yes, My Queen."

Her lips pulled away from mine and I stood. The name Ruby Vale spinning in my head.

Morning Day 29

I inhaled and it felt like a train was on my chest. I coughed and tried to clear the stale air from my lungs.

"He's coming back." A warm, familiar woman's voice was next to my head.

I opened my eyes and blinked to clear the film that had settled over them in my death. My sister and Diego knelt next to me.

Diego helped me sit up and patted me on the back. "We made it, Brother."

I nodded and we all stood, hugging each other. "Jane?" The last memories of me holding a gun to her head, her hands trapped under me. The fear in her eyes as I...almost killed her. "Is she okay?"

My sister nodded. "She killed you and Diego. I'd say she's doing alright."

"What happened to her after that?" I walked over to the giant hole in the floor and looked down. Past the lobby, basement and boiler rooms. "Did she survive?" I rushed out of the room and down the hallway. Down the stairs and into the lobby of the Lodge. The volunteers for the ritual all sat around. The men comforting the crying woman. I didn't stop and went further down into the gym. I looked down into the hole and jumped down.

Nothing but rubble. Something shiny caught my eye and I dug through the dusty cushions. Jane's tracking necklace. It was broken, like it had been ripped from her neck.

I looked up through the hole at Diego and my sister. I held up the necklace of the Virgen De Guadalupe.

"Jonny, you should really come back up here." Diego reached down his arm and I grabbed it. My beloved siblings helped me up through the hole. Not the first one and not the last.

Diego stared at the ground of the hole I just came out of.

"What?"

He pointed.

I finally saw it. A giant footprint in the dirt. "What the fuck happened here?" Keiran was my first thought. I rushed out of the room into the hospital rooms of the basement, the floor above.

Keiran's bed was empty. "What happened here?" I turned to the Doc.

"He healed, miraculously, and left on his own two feet. Nearly killed two of my nurses doing it."

I turned to another one of my men. "What do the cameras show? Let me see."

He accessed the feed on his tablet and showed me.

I entered my passwords to access the cameras and feeds that others couldn't see. I went to the beginning of the ritual, Jane in the room with Bishop. Not something I wanted to see but I needed to know what happened to her.

Diego, my sister and I watched in horror as Bishop turned into a werewolf.

We looked at each other.

"I didn't make enough cursed bullets for a werewolf," my sister said.

I fast forward to the beast jumping out the window and Jane running across the hall.

Into me. I couldn't remember her. I saw the devastation in her eyes. I closed my eyes when I was on top of her. My gun to her temple. I heard the zap of electricity and opened my eyes to see myself flying across the room. My arms still had the lightning scars and they heated as I noticed them. Like a bad sunburn.

I watched as Jess' bullet ricocheted off Jane's Magic shield and hit my brother in the chest. I looked at him and shook my head.

"Lame." He rolled his eyes.

I fast forward as Jess died. A weird light coming from her mouth and into Janes. I looked at Diego again.

"Energy transfer?" He asked our sister, she knew more about Magic than I did.

She shrugged. "Seems like anything is possible around here."

The shaking of the building had the cameras malfunctioning and it looked like Jess and Jane just disappeared but the evidence showed they fell through the floors.

The last camera to catch anything was in the gym and a bad angle only showed half of the Portal opening. It glitched as I watched a man with antlers like a fucking deer come out of the Portal and head to Jane. I watched as he pushed her up against the wall and kissed her. Like the son of a bitch knew exactly who she was. Her legs wrapped around him like she was a starving virgin who had never kissed anyone before.

I fast forward, my blood boiling. They move out of frame for a few minutes until Jane is on the floor, the dirt crumbling around her. I can see the tears streaking down her blood-stained face. The torment in her eyes. What did that bastard do to her?

A large shadow darkened the recording, the arm of a giant and eventually the entire body rising up into the gym.

The large shadow turned around to look down through the hole, distracted by something.

Jane snuck by it and the man with antlers pushed her out of the hole. She ran out of the lodge. I track the videos until I see her run out into the woods, alone.

She was covered in blood and all alone.

I clutched her tracking necklace in my hand and watched as the giant and the antlered man fought each other. The antlered man swung a sword like I had never seen, like an ancient warrior, and seemingly overtook the giant until the video feed went black.

"The whole systems down." The man with the tablet informed me. "Powers out, gennies are malfunctioning."

I handed him back the tablet. "Send the trackers into the woods to find Jane." I left the room and headed to our little apartment. To the closet with the safe room. I went to the mirror and pushed on the glass, maybe she made it back here. The door swung open but the room was empty.

The tears fell silently as I dressed for warmth and tracking out in the woods. I splashed water on my face and pushed the feelings down. I needed a clear head to find her.

I made my way back to the Lodge, my brother speaking to the trackers outside. He turned to me. "We are losing coms when the teams reach the river. The third team we sent out to find the second team disappeared from our radars."

"Call Nen," I commanded one of my men.
