The next day, Joshua could barely keep his attention on the lesson unfolding in front of him. He sat at the back of the lecture hall, slumped over his notebook, his cheek resting in his hand. Normally, he would be enthralled by professor Dreary's talks on Letharian bloodlines and succession, but today it failed to capture his interest. His mind was elsewhere. It was with Delidah; with Stella, and with Rayna.
He thought of the party, of him and Stella dancing, of bodies writing together, of her... Cock, in his mouth. He thought of the greenhouse, of Delidah getting taken by Caylen, of his taught, hairy body and slender curves; of Delidah watching him touch himself. He thought of the book nook, of him hiding behind the shelves. Of him watching Delidah pleasure Rayna with her mouth; of their bodies writing, entwined; of their passionate noises, of the smell of sex in the air. He thought of the moment Delidah's eyes met his; of those pools of luminous water, blue lights waving gently. He was absorbed by them still. He could feel a stirring in himself again, and he shifted position. Trying to avoid further arousal, he tried to focus his attention back on the lecture.
Josh's eyes wandered around the room, looking at the backs of fellow students' heads. All novices in white novice robes. He startled when he noticed Rayna.
Josh gulped, as his memories of that night flooded in again. The sight of Rayna's exposed skin, her writing body, her lustful noises. He felt his cheeks flush, sweat pearling in his neck. Against his will, he was swelling; a crease in his robes slowly rising up. He bit the end of his quill. Focus! Why couldn't he focus?? It was maddening. He yearned to see them again. To see Delidah again.
Josh imagined talking to Rayna after the lecture. She obviously knew Delidah; she could be a way to find her again. They'd never been introduced, but he was pretty sure she knew of him, at least. Maybe if he told her what happened last night she wouldn't be mad. He thought of the laughter he'd heard when he fled, after he had... finished. A shiver went through him, and a knot formed in his stomach. Who was he kidding? She would be furious. She should be; what he had done was bad; awful! But he pushed his anxieties down. If he could go to a monster party and take a vixen's cock in his mouth... Then certainly he could be brave enough to confess his dirty deeds to Rayna and handle the consequences. He decided: He would speak with her after the lecture.
Josh made it through the remainder of the lesson by focusing sternly on the professor in front of the class, and while he didn't think much of the library, he also didn't hear a word the professor said. When the lecture ended, he quickly packed up his books and kept an eye on Rayna as she left, intent on finding her after. Exiting the lecture hall he spotted her lingering in the corridor, talking to a cluster of friends, all wearing matching head scarfs. She made eye contact with him, smiling politely. Josh realised he'd been staring right at her. He could feel himself blush. He raised a hand to wave at her, but Rayna's attention was already back with her friends. She had given him as little thought as a cat would a gnat.
The satchel of books hanging from his shoulder felt heavy; Josh adjusted the strap and straightened his back. He took in a steadying breath, held it for a moment, and stepped forward. He walked right into Rayna's circle. The conversation stopped, and the four women looked at him quizzically. "Hi-- ehm, hello." Josh scraped his throat. "Rayna, right?" She raised both eyebrows and folded her arms. One of her friends clapped a hand on her mouth. Rayna didn't look thrilled to have been interrupted. "Can I help you, mister Edentree?" Josh gulped: she did know of him. While attempting to dry his sweaty palms on his robes, he realised he didn't approach with a plan. The fool!
"I.. yes, well -- right, I thought--" As he struggled to find words, one of Rayna's friends put a compassionate hand on her shoulder. "We'll catch up with you later, Ray" They sped down the hall while bursting out into giggles. Rayna watched her friends abandon her, then turned to Josh with a hostile frown. Josh craned his neck to make sure the girls were out of earshot, then shuffled slightly closer to Rayna and lowered his voice. "I think we have a mutual friend, ehm, Deli--" Rayna cut him off, sending a shock through Josh' spine. "No!" She hissed, "not here!", and looked around to make sure no-one could hear them. "Don't talk about... that, here." She produced her notebook and hurriedly began writing something down. "Meet me here after supper." She tore the note from her book, and shoved it at his chest. Josh hesitated, and mumbled: "Oh-- kay...?" The look she gave him could freeze lake Haladric. "Just now, you asked me for my notes on the lecture, and I gave them to you." Josh blinked, dumbfounded. When he didn't respond right away, she pressed with a snarl: "Understand??" He nodded quickly. "Y-yes!" She gave him one last look that could cowe a chimera, then turned around and hurried off back to her friends, who were waiting down the hall. She joined them in laughter, her anger nowhere to be seen. Josh' stomach churned with nerves; what was that?
He opened the note and saw it was accompanied by a drawing; a diagram. A map with directions! He didn't know the castle very well yet, and this scribble led him to a corner he'd seldom been to: the cosmology department, realm of the Starlight Coven. They studied divination and divinity; stargazers and god-botherers. He felt a little flutter of excitement; Their library would be full of fascinating histories and scriptures! A needle of anxiety killed it before it could get wings. Rayna was obviously furious. He realised that if he were to go to this meeting he would, surely, get the dressing-down of a lifetime. But if he didn't go, well...
He spent the walk back to his dorm imagining all the terrible things that this woman could say to him if he did, or did not, show up to this clandestine meeting. He had made his decision by the time he was eating supper. He was in trouble either way: best to do as he was told.

There was an atmosphere of gloomy tranquility to the cosmology department. All the windows were blacked out with heavy curtains, and the halls were lit only by the twinkle of lights on the ceilings, displaying various constellations. Josh recognised the archer, unicorn and, of course, the edentree. To his frustration he wasn't able to name all of them. The place was mostly empty, save for a few lingering students. They paid little attention to Josh, their eyes glazed over with ponderous thoughts. Josh took a left, following his memory of Rayna's map.
He entered a narrow corridor with doors on either side, each with a different star sign on them; some dull, some illuminated. Josh thought they must be study rooms; the high tower had similar spaces. He stopped at the sign of the unicorn, the door the note said to be at. He raised his hand to the knob, paused, and looked left to right. He would have liked there to be another person; a reason to procrastinate, hold off, wait, or even leave! But the corridor was empty. He took a steadying breath, and pushed into the room.
"Finally!" a voice cried out in the darkness, and Josh was pulled into the room by his sleeve. The door shut behind him with a loud clap. His eyes needed time to adjust to the dark; he couldn't see anything!
"What took you so long??" Rayna's voice demanded from the darkness. Josh opened his mouth to protest: he couldn't be more than 5 minutes late! But Rayna's rapid questions thundered over him. "What do you know about Dee? What do you know about me??" Her grip tightened, but then suddenly released. "Ack! I've been so reckless!" Josh stumbled backwards, and almost fell. His mouth opened a few times, but which inquiry would he address??
