Ch7
The battle rages on around her, as Veronica charges up the ladder. Her legs surge with energy as she feels the weight of her metal armor weighing her down. Her muscles ripple with exhilaration as she takes another step upwards. Several months ago she had been a high school student. She was happy and popular, right up to graduation. She even had the honor of being Homecoming Queen alongside her ex-boyfriend Scott. Then one night, they were at the club dancing and she found out he had been cheating on her. That is when everything changed. The next morning she had taken a bath and was somehow transported to another world, this world.
After coming here, she met her true love, Winston. Winston is also from her world and secretly she had always had a crush on him. Unfortunately, they were in different social circles. Winston was the school geek and she was the most popular girl in the school.
Her attention is drawn back to the battle as the soldier above her moves upwards again. She looks past him and sees there is a struggle at the top of the wall. She yells out a couple commands as she presses her men forward. She feels a pit in her stomach as she thinks about Winston again. Two weeks ago, he had cast a simple light spell, but somehow he had turned the entire forest into a giant light. Every tree, every bush, every plant. Even the animals now glow with a constant light. Unfortunately, the spell drained him and he has been unconscious ever since.
The soldier above her is stabbed and pushed backwards. She leans against the ladder as tightly as possible, feeling the impact of his body hit her shoulders. She grimaces in pain as she looks up, elven soldiers begin to throw rocks towards her. She draws her sword and bounds upwards. Its golden handle glistens in the morning light as the jewels refract the bright forest light behind her, casting a prism of light along the wall. With a couple of swings, she drives deep into an elven hip, pulling him off the wall. With another lunge, she drives the blade through the chest of another, driving the group of them back. This is all the space she needs as she jumps onto the wall and gains her footing.
"For the guild," she roars out at the top of her lungs as her arms begin to swing back and forth.
From behind her she hears a chorus of voices yell out, "for the realm." She cuts a path through the elves, which quickly opens up as her soldiers hit the top of the wall behind her.
"For the Guild Master," rings out behind her from a loud voice. She doesn't even need to look as she smells the body odor and stale ale waif up from behind her. Her new captain was once an enemy. A very large and imposing man, he once tried to rape her. Later she bested him in armed combat and gained the respect of the entire guild. After the sickness ravaged the city of Griffonmere, she found the guild master's sword. Now, according to tradition, she is the new guild master.
Her soldiers cut deep into the elven soldiers driving them from the wall. Her attention is drawn on the gate house, as she runs towards it. Arrows strike the catwalk in front of her but she ignores them, focused on her prize. Several more elves run towards her, and she drops to her knees slicing under their swings. She stands again, throwing them over the wall with a massive heave. In front of her, flames erupt as she shields her eyes from the heat.
"Master Veronica, we have to fall back." She turns towards her captain for a moment, to see that reinforcements have cut off her men as they are already making a retreat behind her. She quickly looks around, seeing a flag pole on fire. She slices into the rope, grabs it, and then jumps. There is a flutter above her as the assembly unwinds. She jerks to a stop as she feels the muscles in her shoulder tear. Letting go, she drops the remaining couple feet to the ground. She sees that the last of her men are making their way back down the ladders. She picks up the elven flag from the ground and begins to stride back towards camp. Arrows strike the ground around her, but she doesn't notice. A mixture of fear for Winston and anger towards Scott, seethes inside of her.
Her mind lingers on Scott, her ex-boyfriend. She always felt it was destiny that both her and Winston were brought here to this world. She soon learned that it was their destiny to destroy a great evil named the Defiler. It wasn't until she faced the Defiler, on the battlefield, that she realized a third person had also been brought from their world. That person is her ex-boyfriend Scott. The same Scott she once loved. The same Scott who betrayed her. Her Scott, is the defiler that she is destined to defeat. She glances to her side as her men cower and duck, running from the wall. But she barely notices. She is focused on having failed another attack. She must do something to fix their morale. Her men need to know their losses was worth it.
She holds the flag above her head and a huge cheer rings out from the lines. "Huzzah for the Guild Master." In her hands is a gold frilled flag containing an anvil with wings. This is the emblem of the family of Segne. This is the royal flag of the Queen herself.

General Illian sits at a large wooden table with a number of other leaders. Every seat is filled, except for one. His long blonde hair flows down his back like the mane of a lion. On his chest is the same emblem as the Queen. He pulls his hair behind his long elven ears as he looks at the map. He too is a member of the House of Segne. His heart aches as he thinks about the present reality. For centuries he had proudly represented his family and his queen. But now, his family has aligned themselves with the Defiler. He looks back at his council as he sees only one other High Elf. Upon his return to the city, it was found that many of the elven families still supported him. Several thousand soldiers, and their families, now stand with him against the evils of the Defiler.
At his side is the woman that he loves. Emma has long black hair that wraps around her beautiful face as her bright blue eyes shine back at him. Her long ears stick out now, normally hidden. His people have always felt it was disgusting to associate with a Woodland Elf. But now, here he is, in love with one. She sits beside him representing the mighty Wizard's Guild.
To her side sits another Woodland Elf, her father, the king of their tribe. Emma had been exiled from her people due to conducting a magical body manipulation. Illian's eyes gaze back at Emma's massive breasts as she again smiles at him. She holds her father's hand in hers as the threat of the Defiler has brought their tribe back together as a unified force.
Lord Lockabrey sits across the table. As Captain of the Chaste Guards, his soldiers have protected the border since the sickness began. Lockabrey is a young man, married to a woman who doesn't love him. Emma had helped cure his wife of the sickness, but besides a common enemy, they have very little trust for each other.
Beside him is a priestesses of Adelle. She is a heavy woman who wears a short white skirt and thin top. He thinks to himself that it is funny they are all virgins, yet they wear such revealing clothing. Illian had encountered the order on the Island of healing and befriended one of them named Ariana. Currently the order is caring for his friend Winston, as well as the sick and injured, from the war.
His eyes again fall on the empty seat. "Has anyone seen Master Veronica?"
A silence fills the room as no one wants to answer him.
