The following story is a work of fiction that takes place in an alternate time line to our own. The time line diverges from ours during world war two. Tensions remained high between the US and Japan. The US never dropped atomic bombs to force a submission. Only a cease fire was ever established. Japan remained a world power, and grew enormously wealthy. Through economic warfare Japan took over both China, and Russia to became the world's strongest super power. The only rival is the North American European Union or NAEU. Japan had established numerous big banks in the United States over the coarse of decades, and was attempting to take over the country through economic warfare like it had done to Russia, and China. Unfortunately for Japan this was the United States Economy we are talking about, and would take much longer to subdue than any other, but it was only a matter of time.
In the year 2000 Chip was a hard working manager at a New York Bank of Japan. That is where he met up with his life long friend Joe. Joe got his nickname Fish by Chip at the end of this job interview, and it would be stuck with him the rest of his life. Everyone called him Fish from then on. However he claimed the nickname came from his swimming prowess, and not his limp handshake.
A bank of Japan bank normally only hire Japanese people, but Fish was a good friend to a Chip. After the hiring process the way Fish and Chip shook hands reflected their personality differences. Fish shook Chips hand limply without confidence. Chip shook Fish's hand firmly with self-assurance. Chip is an alpha male with the strength of an ox, but more brawn than brain. Fish on the other hand is a thin swim team nerd with Aspergers syndrome and a genius level IQ.
Throughout high school Fish and Chip had a mutually beneficial friendship. Chip kept bullies from harassing Fish for being white. Many social groups were "Japanese Only," but Chip always stood up for Fish even getting in a fist fight to defend him on more than one occasion. Fish kept Chip's grades high enough through tutoring sessions to remain the quarterback of the football team. On occasion Fish would serve as Chip's wingman for a double date when a sumo wrestler looking girl had a hot friend that none of Chip's team mates would touch with a 10 foot pole. Although Chip claims to have gotten laid by half the girls in school Fish remained a virgin even after graduation.
In the year 2001 the September 11th attacks hit them both hard. They lived just outside of New York City in Little Japan. Ninety-nine percent of this suburb is Japanese, but Fish, and Melinda's family are white. Fish's father Mike worked on the upper floors of the south tower.

Fish looked his mom up and down. Her dark brown eyes were glazed with tears as she focused intently on the television screen, and she paid him no mind.
