Maoka went around talking to each of the options. You suggested Chadas, and she did seem to spend the most amount of time speaking to her. Maoka looked up at the walking, talking optical illusion.

"What are you?" The girl asked.

Chades loomed over her, red eyes glowing like two fires flickering in the depths of a cave. She spoke, though she had no mouth with which to speak, the shadow seemed to speak directly and audibly, albeit in a low, wispy tone.

"I am born from the shadows cast by human light."

"Human light?" Moaka perked up with interest.

"Invention?"

Chadas was notably silent. "I am as I stated." She offered a bit more stilted.

"I think that what you're saying is that you're the shadow cast by humanities advancement. From the first fire granted by prometheus to the Edison light bulb. Are you the shadows cast by all these things?"

If a shadow could blush, Chadas certainly did. She stopped looming and leaned back. She returned to her intimidating height, but did not feel particularly imposing. It could be said that her evasive answer was some kind of trick, but she became awkward as she repeated.

"I- I am as I stated."

"What's that mean?" You questioned Maoka.

She turned to you. "Well... I suppose it's kind of like... When man created fire, that was the first instance where they created a shadow. In a sense, there were shadows and light but there may be some significance to the light that was made by us and the shadows that were the result."

"She isn't just coming out and saying it because..." You trailed off, eying the spirit.

"She's a shadow. She's evasive. It's fairly straightforward."

"If you say so."

"Why'd you suggest her?" Maoka asked curiously.

You trailed your gaze up her silhouette, her hips, her breasts, her height. The body you inhabited had a type.

"Just a feeling."

Maoka shrugged and extended a hand up. "We've negotiated benefits and downsides with each. Would you like to form a contract, Chadas?"

Chadas reached down shyly and the moment she touched Maoka's hand she faded. You all looked around, then noticed two glowing eyes in Maoka's shadow. It was also a tiny but more shapely than it should be, though nobody was going to come out and say that to a woman.

Salazar sighed wearily. "Sssuit yourself."

Serius mocked the man. "It sssslips out when you're upset, Sssally~ You should get that checked out. I know a great dentist." Salazar stared at Seriius for a few moments, then simply turned on his heeled boots and walked through the nearest wall. Serius giggled to himself, looking around to all of you with a bright grin.

"Sssuch a ssour sssport!"

"It's not nice to make fun of someone's speech impediment." Asuka stated timidly.

"Right you are!" He tapped his chin.

"Let's see, a spider and a shadow... Two burgeoning spiritualists and two old friends. This is quite a unique meet up, don't you agree?" He was looking at Fin, but Fin quickly pointed to you. Suggesting that you were in charge.

"Don't you agree?" He asked you, as if you were the first he asked.

"I guess... Well, we got what we wanted, so you can go away now." You waved your hand to shoo him away.

"Oh! Yes, of course, you have everything you wanted. You got a spirit, and you also, presumably received everything you were looking for AND a way out? How wonderful. You have those things, right?"

"We have..." Your eye twitched.

`I hate this guy. Always have.`

"Yes?" Serius leaned closer.

"None of those things." You admitted.

"Hmm.. So it seems like you still need aid that is more or less bordering on the omniscient?" Serius asked coyly.

"Bordering is doing a lot of lifting, there... You either are or you aren't, right?" Maoka asked. She looked down to her shadow, leaned a bit closer as if listening, then nodded. She was evidently receiving whispered advice that only she could hear. She looked at you.

"He's not trustworthy, but if he's offering to help we wont receive his ire. For now..."

"That's all well and good." You nodded.

"Alright, Serius. What can you do for us?" Fin jabbed you.

"Oh, and what do you want us to do for you?"

He gave a withering look, bringing the back of his palm to his forehead. "While I do have something of a foothold on this world I actually have very few permanent agents. Would you believe that? I only show up every thousand years or so like that drab Jhiana and every time I come back things are different and I have less influence! Right now, the only things people know about Tanuki is how big my balls are and that just won't do!"

"I'm sorry, what?" You squinted.

Surprisingly Asuka chimed in while averting her gaze from the man himself. "It s-sounds odd but it's the truth. We have statues like him and they all have big heavy b-balls."

"That is what I want to fix. I was hoping to have a new, cute agent in this sweet little lady but she was taken right in front of me as if I were the protagonist in some lewd sex-based play. Goodness..." He waggled his brow at Fin.

"Where have I seen that before?"

"Hey!" Fin uttered, unable to really say anything in response except hey before he lowered his head awkwardly, ears drooping.

"So... I'm left with a problem that happens to also solve one of your problems, Djir!"

"Spit it out."

"You want power. I can't give much... The exchange rate is pretty terrible from Turais to Earth, let me tell you..." He rolled his eyes and fanned himself with his fat racoon paw.

"But! You can have power, maybe even enough to challenge that rebellious little Fox..." He paused and added with a shrug.

"Or fix the barrier, I suppose, depending on what side of things you're on."

"What is that mountain to the spirits here?" Asuka interjected to ask.

"That temple was built on a source. When things from our world come to this one, you've already experienced that it tends to SAP us quite a bit. Nothing personal, really. Well, in some places there are confluences. There are areas where things have come through in larger numbers for some reason or another. This land itself is one big confluence because it is made up of many smaller ones. Places where the forces from our world have sunk into the ground itself like some... sticky... black... stuff." he was struggling to find the term.

"Oil?" Maoka chimed in.

"Yes! Oil! Like that. This place is lousy with it. All of the spirits in this whole city would LOVE to suckle off that powerful teet. I am in a position of not actually caring all that much, since I'm only visiting, but if you had to live here? Hohoho... You would want a piece of it."

"Can we cut the crap, please? Nothing's free... You give me power? I become an agent of you? I know your game. You're not gonna turn me into one of your brainwashed children, idiot."

"Oh... perish the thought!" He looked offended.

"I only do that to unassuming victims and you are obviously VERY assuming."

"That doesn't instil confidence." Asuka muttered to you.

"Tell me what would happen and what I would have to do?"

"You may end up looking a teensy, tiny bit like me with the ears and the tail-"

"I knew it." You sneered.

"But! But... I don't need to influence you! In fact, I can't. I'm leaving soon. I just want a presence here! Every time I come I can never find a pure enough spirit. I need a good spirit to be able to lay down roots here. So, all I actually want is for you to make more."

"Oh gods..." Fin rubbed his eyes.

"Djir, he wants you to-"

"Do what you did for over a thousand years to the extent that you brought a whole new species into existence?" Serius cocked his head to one side. Fin piped down, his face becoming flush.

"Yeah, no thanks. I don't really care, but I don't exactly want you power and also, this body needs to be preserved. If it's do this or receive help, you're kinda offering this under a bit of duress, right?"

"Nonsense. How about this? In good faith, I promise to do the minimum I can to lead you to somewhere else where you can genuinely find what you're looking for."

"Still no. Show us-"

"Djir, wait." Fin stopped you.

"You don't actually-"

"Not you. Mirra has a suggestion." He whispered it in your ear.

"She says that she will take on the burden. Serius could be convinced to give her a form that she could carry out into, at the very least, the spirit world. She seems to think that she is a part of me, and that my influence will always beat his. She can't be fully sure, though."

"Risky..."

"Maybe not." Fin shrugged.

"Serius isn't the only one that can assimilate souls. He's right. We are basically siblings."
