You walked into the temple to see, instead of a golden fox statue, a large golden fat man smiling and doing something with his hands. It was likely the same, however. You felt a presence in front of the statue and could vaguely feel and see the lines that were connecting to Inari in the lower realm. You rubbed your chin, noting just how many there were as you approached Mishiko.

"Hmm." You intoned.

She was kneeling in front of the statue, awfully close to where Inari seemed to be trapped. She was preparing some form of ritual in a careful manner. You looked back over your shoulder to Asuka, then reached up to poke Aran. She yelled in a way only you and Asuka could hear, though you saw Mishiko flinch. As she looked around you could tell that she was actually quite nervous and apprehensive.

"Why are you poking me, sir!?" Aran asked.

"Was that Asuka's Familiar?" Mishiko asked.

You nodded. "Yeah. Though, she's too terrified to go near her. I don't get why..."

"Well... Spider's are rather malicious, dear." Mishiko smiled.

"Maneaters."

"Hah? You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?" You retorted.

She chuckled. "Please, I have no idea what you're talking about." She rested a hand over her chest. Quite a bit of cleavage was showing within her robes. You stuck your tongue out, even though it did make the body you inhabited feel something.

"There's only women and me here, so who exactly are you trying to impress with those udders?" You questioned, approaching one of the strings. To you it appeared as a vague outline.

"What do you even need me for?"

"We can't 'see' things until they become obvious to us. Such as when we make a familiar or when the area is extremely dense with spirit energy. Even then, we... are more like a compass than anything else."

"So you know that there is something, but you don't know what it is?"

"Correct."

"What is it you're trying to do, exactly?" You asked.

"We are strengthening the binds around the spirit in order to weaken her influence over this temple. Once we do that we will then be able to weaken her further with more rituals over time. What I need you here for is mostly to do with your sight. You can see things more clearly, yes?"

"Mmm. Yeah. A bit." You shrugged.

"Good. We need to avoid the lines that are binding her, and we need to add more."

"Ahhh, okay." You figured that you could stall her by giving her wrong information. However, with Fin crying in your brain that you should free Inari, and with you faintly agreeing to some extent, you felt like you could throw everything out of whack by breaking some of them instead.

"Just sit tight and don't touch anything and tell us if we are about to touch something by accident." Mishiko advised.

"Got it." You looked around and noted that it was a bit late for that. Everyone was surrounded by red threads that attached to various points in the temple, stretching down to Inari's position. You were surrounded by a few. It was simple enough to step back, grab one and tug it subtly. You shivered as you heard a faint moan that sounded like the fox.

`W-what the hell are you doing, Djir!?`

`Relax... These are sturdier than I thought.` You blushed.

`I guess we also don't know where some of these lead...`

`Yeah. So be careful, please?`

`Hey! Don't get on my back when I'm running with your request!` You snapped back, discreetly holding the thread with both hands this time. You yanked hard.

`Oh, I'm pretty weak. I forgot.`

Fin sighed. `Let's just pour a bit of energy into it, then.`

`A bit?` You repeated sceptically. Regardless of your concerns you tugged at the string and with Fin's help on the spiritual side it snapped. Then, you felt a bit dizzy as more loosened and fell and some more still snapped.

"Urk..." You began to sweat a little.

`Maybe a bit much, don't you think!?` You shouted.

`We're trying to free her, anyway, so what does it matter?`

"Something just happened?" Mishiko uttered nervously, standing. She looked around frantically. The two girls began to back up.

"What just happened!?" She asked, looking at you.

"I- Uh... I dunno." You shrugged.

"Looks like all the lines are breaking."

"WHAT!? ALL!?" She held her head in her hands, then started to move. As she had to move faster she lifted her robes to move faster.

"Run!"

Before any of you could escape the doors shut and the room went completely black, despite it being day. Then the windows lit with blue energy, shining ghostly spotlights into the dark temple to illuminate further shades of grey. Lights began to ignite blue all through the temple to illuminate it completely. You took a step, almost tripping over a little orb that was trying to wipe the floor that you had just walked on.

"Running isn't an option for you this time, my dear. Not for any of you." Inari stated from the head of the room. She was brushing of strings and getting use to walking again, since she stumbled a few steps as she stood up.

"Thanks for the save, Daddy." She smiled brightly.

`No problem!` Fin shouted from within your head.

Meanwhile the girls were huddling together, back to back. Mishiko stared at Inari like she could see her and Asuka and Maoka were looking down as if they could see the tiny sprites cleaning the floors.

"Can you all see these things?" You asked.

"Of course they can. They're in the spirit realm."

"No..." Mishiko fell to her knees.

"Yes~" Inari clapped.

"What did she mean when she said 'thanks Daddy?'" Maoka asked, looking at you suspiciously.

"Well-" You began to try to explain yourself as Inari walked closer to everyone.

"It means exactly what I said. My Dad gave me a bit of a helping hand in escaping." Inari explained.

"Your... " Mishiko gasped and pointed to you.

"The Demon King! It was you all along!"

"Oi! What're you doing?" You whispered.

"I kinda wanna keep a good report with these people. Also, what're you doing dragging everyone to another realm, or whatever?"

Inari lifted a brow. "I barely like you, Djir, and I definitely do not like my father, who is hitching a ride with you. In fact, here. You want a favour?" She snapped her fingers.

`Inari, what do y-` Halfway through him saying that his voice changed to being spoken out loud. You heard it in your ear, which twitched a little. You reached up as you felt tall, but still somewhat rounded ears with a fluffy interior. You looked to your left.

"-ou mean you don't like me?" He looked down, then around. Noticing he was outside.

"Eh?"

As soon as you saw him in the flesh your tail began to wag. "Hey! You're out!" You walked up to him and felt frustrated.

"You're tall..."

"The hell am I supposed to do about that?" He lifted a brow, standing in a dignified pose in his red and black robes with his long, messy mane of black hair accented by tingest of red stood Fin. You poked him.

"Doesn't this mean we're basically almost where we need to be? Hey, take me out of this body, too!" You asked her.

"I'm not actually out... I'm just being forced to project outside. This realm is thick in Aura, which means I'm more free to move around outside the safety of your body." Fin explained, though he seemed a bit unsure.

"Demon King!" Mishiko pointed.

"That's the Demon King, what have we done!?"

Fin turned around and uncrossed his arms to wave. "Hello... I'm not actually that bad, I don't think."

"Are you trying to say you didn't take over the demon realm by consuming the previous ruler?"

"Well... I did."

"That you aren't a tyrant that rules from the shadows, imposing your will on everyone in the Demon Realm?"

"I Mean-"

"You consume souls and use their energy to fuel your dark power!" She pointed accusingly.

"Y- yes? But it's more complicated than-"

"You are obviously very, very evil!" Mishiko shouted.

"You came to this world to free your daughter and you were smuggled in by latching on to another spirit to hide your presence... How devious. To even pretend to be dead to set this up."

"None of that is true." Inari stated.

"Thank you." Fin sighed with relief to know that one more person was on his side.

"Don't thank me until I finish. I still don't like you. You didn't come here to save me. You could've tried that at any time and you didn't. You barely looked for me at all."

"I don't understand, do you want space when you say you want space, or do you want me to come find you?" Fin questioned in exasperation.

"You're my only daughter between Jeane and myself that turned out as a fox so I wanted to be close to you and to support you, but you were constantly wanting to be alone. Then, when I would turn my attention to other things you were on me like glue!"

"Ehhh." Michiko looked at him, shuddering.

"So you were just alternating between smothering her and ignoring her?"

"Exactly!" Inari pointed.

"Clever, clever human."

"Thank you, Inari Okami-" She bowed her head. Before she could finish speaking Inari interjected.

"Oh, don't try sucking up to me now. You were trying to seal me. Stupid girl." She wagged her finger. She turned, eying you and Fin closely. She pointed between you, passing her finger from one to the other..

"What's going on with this, exactly?"

"We're together." You announced proudly.

Inari's face turned. Her cheeks flushed and she looked to her Father for confirmation. Fin reluctantly nodded and admitted.

"This is... True. We are together."

"What about Mama?"

Fin sighed, scratching his long ears. "Complicated? Your mother and I lived a long and happy life together, then got put in a simulation that altered our past and memories. When left with no context I did choose your mother... yes. But, I also chose Djir as a l-" He gulped.

"Say it." You bounced up and down. You noticed curiously that Inari was doing the same.

"L-lover." He finished his thought.

Inari grabbed her face and squealed. "Oh my god! That is so hot."

"Right?" You nodded.

"What?" Fin blinked.

"What's happening?" Asuka whispered to her Aunt, who waved her down and whispered back.

"Let's see how this plays out..."

"Wait... If you're lovers then kiss." Inari commanded.

"Okay." You moved in and pulled Fin down rather forwardly. He was fully flushed but did not fight the advance as you kissed him on the lips. Asuka was covering her mouth with both hands and Maoka and Mishiko both seemed to be into it by most stretches of the imagination. You let Fin go, smiling brightly.

Inari clapped her hands excitedly. "I knew it! No offence to Mama, but my senses told me that you and Djir would mesh well together. I'm right about these things one-hundred percent. It's practically sixth sense. Kara and that other guy wasn't a surprise to me, either. I've been able to accurately ship everyone I've seen." She announced proudly, hands on hips.

Asuka raised her hands. "What about... Me and Finn.., Original Finn, I mean," Maoka and Mishiko looked at her with shock.

"Scooch in beside him. Djir, hide your ears and stop making that stupid face." Inari ordered, motioning her over with her hand as she began to make a frame with her thumbs and pointers.

"If it's stupid it's not me! It's just this face!" You argued.

"Good enough. Scooch in." As she said that you hid your ears with your hands and waited for Asuka to walk up beside you. Inari made a contemplative sounded, then released the frame she made with her fingers. After a second of deliberation she smiled and gave a thumbs up.

"Set sail, girl."

"R-really?" Asuka seemed happy.

"If you ever get out of here alive." Inari added with a smirk.

"Sorry?"

"Brought you all in here to kill you."

"Why me?" You asked.

"Inari, be reasonable. We were the ones that freed you..." Fin pleaded, stepping towards her.

"So? I'm not gonna get sucked into your orbit, Dad. You can't help yourself. You even forced Djir to make the decision to free me even though it was obviously a bad idea. You think your choices, your thoughts and your opinions are all that matters, but they aren't! I can feel it, you're not the Hero anymore. You're just a rube like the rest of us. You don't get the power of deciding what everyone does or how the world works."

Asuka stepped forward and knelt down. "Inari Okami, please don't harm us. I have seen the way you maintain this temple. You consider it your home and pay so much love and attention to the walls and the grounds that it is noticeable."

"I try." She blushed.

"Not much I can do about the plants, but I keep everything together..."

"Thank you for that... Is it really so bad to have humans here? If possible, we would live with you and work alongside you. Things do not have to be adversarial, do they?"

She sighs. "For the respect you're showing, you can live." Inari claimed.

'You have my protection, little priestess. Plus, you're cute enough..." A sly grin spread.

"W-what are you planning?" Asuka stepped back.

"Hmm? What do you take me for? Show some respect, lest I withdraw my protection."

"Sorry..." Asuka bowed her head.

"How're you gonna kill us?" You asked.

"I'm just not gonna protect you. I'm not actually going to do anything other than that. Bad Karma. I'm no murder... Unless you push me to it." She eyed Fin narrowly.

"What did I do!?" He begged.

"The fact that you don't get it is worse!" She asserted.

"Look. To make it plain and clear. I'm not gonna do anything. The spirit world's a dangerous place. Especially in this city. I've been keeping this mountain safe from all the baddies, and you, idiots-" She pointed you out and Fin out.

"Broke my barrier that I kept active for hundreds of years."

"How did you get trapped, Inari? Can't we just talk? You're my-"

"Nope." She shook her head.

'Sorry Daddy. Can't talk your way out of this one. Also, I'm setting a rule that if you try to do any influencing of events by speaking or manipulating or ANYTHING I'll do something bad. I'll allow myself to do something bad and it won't matter because you'll have broken the rule. So ZIP IT!" He opened his mouth only to see her glare at him. He made a zipping motioned with his lips and backed up, raising his hands.

"But I love the sound of Fin's voice..." You pouted at herm trying to prey on what you've seen of her fangirl instincts.

"At least allow pillow talk... That doesn't count, right?"

"P-pillow..." Her face went bright red and she shuddered. She took a deep breath and smiled at you promisingly. You looked down and noted that her thumb was down.

"Nice try. No talking at all. Tell him to bite the pillow instead."

"Okay, I can 'get behind' that." You chuckled.

Beside you Fin looked to be boiling over. He was stopping himself from speaking as you and Inari chuckled over the stupid pun.

"Honourable Okami... What are we supposed to do?" Mishiko asked in a respectful tone.

"I kind of just expect you all to die... but I guess that's unfair so I'll give you all a chance." Everyone perked up to listen.

"If, within the spirit world, you can repair the barrier you broke, and repair the seals around this temple while respecting my ownership of it, I will grant you all safety." Everyone seemed a bit hopeful, then Maoka looked around and raised her hand.

"Go ahead, sweetheart."

Cynically, Maoka observed. "You're telling us to do all this stuff that'll save us, regardless. So aren't you basically just telling us in more words that we should live if we can, which we were gonna try to do anyway? Can we get an actual helpful condition?"

"Be careful..." Mishiko whispered, grabbing her shoulders.

Inari looked up in thought, then nodded. "Oh, okay." She grinned widely and smugly, staring at Fin in particular.

"Fitting that we make it a choice, huh, Daddy?" She felt pleased to see him looking frustrated.

"You can either have this temple as a safe haven away from any bad things that are out there... or, you can all get one additional mark of my protection that will guard you out there."

"Does that mean that I would have two?" Asuka asked timidly.

"Mhmm." Inari nodded.

"Can't let my smart girl die that easily."

You could tell that Fin wanted to speak very, very badly. You looked to everyone else.

"What do we think?"

Maoka furrowed her brow. "I feel like the permanent protection is too good to be true. Maybe we can do something from here, but eventually one of us may have to go out and it'll be without any protection? Sounds bad if we don't have every single thing we need here." She reasoned.

"Maoka is correct, in a sense, but we will not know what we need until we need it... So it is relying on Inari Okami not setting things up in a way that she knows we will fail, which..." She gulped.

Asuka looked up, then looked at you and whispered. "She still needs to protect herself... If we take the protection, most big bad things won't be able to have free reign here, right?"

"Oooh." You got what she was saying.

"That's good."

"I like your ears." She added, a bit flushed.

"Ah, thanks... Mine are usually more rounded but they mixed with Fin's. I'm gonna lose 'em when I leave this body so don't get used to it, okay?" You jabbed.

"Y-yeah." She nodded bashfully.
