You gave up, letting Fionna keep the Artefact. Fin was right, you were simply planning to misuse it to your own ends and if Fionna could use it for self defence it probably served everyone's purposes a little better and a tad more ethically.

`Don't slip back into being a villain, now... I think you're a bit nicer as this cuter, softer version.` Fin commented.

`Oh don't start with me. You were pretty happy when I was bigger, too. Don't think I forgot how well your voice raised while I was-`

`N-now now.`

You smirked and stood up, looking at Fionna. "Keep it."

"Thanks. Now I just gotta figure out how it works..."

"Are we going to test it?" Asuka asked from behind.

"I think we should." She offered while Su nodded in agreement beside her, craning her head over to see it.

"How should we?" Fionna asked, looking around at the assembled party members.

"Relax. We can head back inside and test it at any point." You stated, looking to Carolyn, who went back to speak to the officers that were staying behind for the report. You stood up and walked up to her, tugging on her sleeve near her elbow. She turned.

"Oh, hey sweetie. Need something? Anything to tell the officers?"

"Sorry, I don't snitch." Your mother and the officer exchanged a raised eyebrow. As you said that.

"Anyway. Why's Jo- I mean... 'Dad' in the loony bin?" You asked because you noticed what Jacob mouthed before being loaded into the car. Those words, and the fact that it almost felt like he had more knowledge than he should about John's Artefact did not sit well with you.

"Oh..." She was hesitant.

"Can I finish up here? I meant to talk to you two about it when you were ready, but this really isn't the place and time, right?" She tried to sound nice, but she was not hiding the fact that she was correct, and that it was a conversation that had to happen later.

"Alright, Mom." You leaned back as she hugged you and kissed you again before shooing you off.

You returned to your friends and sister. "Alright, let's go test."

Fionna looked up from the watch. "Now? How are we going to do this? Trial and error?"

"Sort of. But I also know how it works because I saw it being used."

She furrowed her brow. "How did you see it being used when I didn't?"

"Because of what I told you about earlier, when it was used on me it affected the body, but since my Soul was different, or mixed or something I was aware during the control. So that meant that I could see, just not act." You explained as you lead everyone back up the stairs into your home.

"Wait..." It seemed to just hit Fionna that you were casually speaking of magic, and that she had casually accepted it.

You stopped in the doorway. "What?"

"Are you seriously not my Finn?"

"I already told you I wasn't. Asuka also knows. So don't say I didn't try to tell you, because I did. You didn't listen." You kept walking but Fionna rushed after you, grabbing your arm.

"So then where the hell is MY brother!?"

You hung your head and sighed. "You weren't listening at all, huh?" You tapped your head.

"He's still in there and I'm trying to get him out."

"How? What's your progress? What's the plan? Is it working?" She was speaking a mile a minute. Gradually Su and Asuka filed in after her and hung back to let the two of you speak.

"The plan is to improve Finn's life and right enough wrongs that his spirit is strong enough to regain control. Ideally... That'll happen at a point when both me and the other spirits in his head got another place to go."

"Hm." Fionna furrowed her brow.

"What's wrong? Not satisfied with that?" You asked, leaning close so that your face was near hers. She blushed and pulled back.

"No. The opposite... I think that's fair. I just can't help but feel responsible. Finn's spirit was so broken up that he lost control of his body?" Her lip quivered and it was obvious that she was trying to avoid crying.

"If I was more supportive... If I believed him without questioning him maybe-"

"Tch." You stepped forward and hugged her, patting her on the back.

"There there. Far as I can tell you just acted reasonably with the info you had. It sucked, but there's not much you could do. This guy also has to answer for the fact that he was a bit of a weakling in the Soul department."

Fionna smiled weakly and eventually hugged you back. "Thanks." As you both separated she asked after clearing her throat.

"Now are you gonna tell me how this thing works?"

"Sure." You walked up the stairs as you explained, but Maria intercepted you with a look of feat in her eyes.

"I-I'm sorry, I could anticipate that he was going to have some type of power." She offered apologetically, holding her hands up in front of her while remaining in a bowed pose with sunken shoulders. She seemed dejected. You just patted her on the head and continued. Su lifted a brow, wondering why she was apologising to you and not her.

"Basically I think that the watch can be wound for... Maybe a few minutes at a time but what's actually limiting it is the potency of the item."

"The potency?" Fionna questioned, looking at it with a squint.

"Yeah. Artefacts typically have potency that's expended in the use of their features. I'm guessing that the watch has an amount of potency that allows it to be used for a number of minutes at a time before it recharges. All you have to do is open it, show it to someone with it wound and it puts them into a trance during that time where you can get them to do whatever you want.

"Cool. Would it stop someone in their tracks if they were trying to attack me?" She asked once you were all at the top of the stairs.

"Did you wind it?"

"Yeah..."

"Great. Su, try to attack Fionna." You ordered.

"Sure." Su shrugged, strutting towards her aggressively like hired muscle.

"W-wait!" Fionna held the watch up towards her as she advanced and cringed as Su got close. When she opened her eyes the watch was ticking and Su had stopped.

"It worked." She uttered in amazement.

You and Asuka were both blocking your eyes. "If they don't see it, it seems like it doesn't work." Asuka announced her observation.

"So now she'll do whatever I say?" Fionna asked with a perverted grin.

"I don't like that look on your face." You narrowed your eyes at her.

Fionna pointed at you and commanded. "Glomp onto my Brother and don't let go!"

Su smiled happily and quickly latched onto you, weighing you down with her own body as she constricted you like a viper. You groaned.

"D-dammit, get off!"

"Kiss his cheek every 5 seconds." Fionna ordered sternly. As she commanded, Su waited, then kissed you on the cheek. After another 5 seconds she tried again and as you tried to turn away she grabbed your chin and directed it back so that she could kiss your cheek again, and again...

"I-It seems like the subject will use the means they have at their disposal to carry out the order..." Asuka said while keeping her head turned away from the sight.

"Oi! H-how long are you gonna let this go on!" You questioned angrily.

"That's the point. I wound it for a full minute, so I'm testing when she comes to and measuring it with kisses. That's the only reason." She insisted.

"You have a WATCH in your hand that's ticking!" You pointed out.

Fionna smiled awkwardly. "Well... That is a good point, but we're already at this point so we might as well keep going."

Despite your complaints Su remained attached to you for roughly 14 minutes before she finally stopped. Asuka finally asked.

"I don't know if she's still under..."

"I'm not." Su said after her final kiss.

"What!?" You pushed her off of you.

"How long?"

"I woke up about 2 minutes ago and just kind of went with what felt right, since I was already hugging and kissing you." She announced.

"Hussy..." You straightened out your clothes as Su blew you one final kiss with a wink.

"So it seems like one minute equals roughly 12."

"Maybe less with multiple subjects." You guessed, adding.

"But, it felt like Jacob had far more time with it than that at some points."

"Why?" They asked.

"I was getting to that. I think John... Sorry, 'our' Dad was helping Jacob along. He was probably giving more potency to the device than it had out of his own pool to allow Jacob to do more with it."

"I'm sorry... What the fuck? Our DAD!?" Fionna was noticeably shocked.

"You're Dad's the one that wanted Finn to lose control. His body was supposed to be a vessel for one of his lackeys from my world."

"I'm sorry... Lackeys? Why does Dad have Lackeys? He's in a loony bin..."

"Dad isn't 'descended' from John Dee. He IS John Dee. He's been alive on Earth for at least that long perfecting and expanding his magic." You stated.

"You're fucking with me... I need to sit down." As she said that you opened the door to your room and ushered her, Asuka and Su inside to take a seat on your bed.

"This fucker's got a history of bad performance as a father. In the other world he was my Lover's Dad."

"Your lover?" Su questioned, eying you curiously.

"You have another woman?"

"Yeah, who the hell is that?" Fionna stared at you incredulously.

"Not a woman, idiots. He's another guy named Fin and he's also here in my head so be careful what you say."

"Your lover is a guy with the same name as my brother?" Fionna's mouth fell open.

"Mhmm."

"What's he look like?" Su asked insistently, getting a bit too close and far too intrigued.

"He looks a bit like Fin, but with big black Fox ears with red tips and cute white tufts along the inside. He always has a dignified look, but can get annoyed quickly when something doesn't go his way. He loves me unconditionally and thinks I'm the best."

`Hey... Can I tell them what I'm actually like?` Fin asked in an unimpressed tone.

`Hehehe, no.` You smirked.

`D-dammit Djir! Stop lying about me!` He demanded.

`How much of it is lies?` You asked cheekily. He went silent.

`That's what I thought.`

"Okay." Fionna seemed to be taking it all in. So what are you?

"I'm a- Well, my spirit's that of a Gnoll. My name's Djir."

Su stared at you in utter disbelief. "Are you trying to tell me that there is another world out there where gay, furry romances are playing out between Gnolls and Fox boys?" You nodded.

"And that you're really a- Wait, what do you actually look like?"

You grinned proudly. "I'm buff as hell and super awesome."

"Spotted hide?" Su was on her phone.

"Yeah?"

"Covered in fur?"

"Uh, yeah?"

"Let's see... She turned the phone around and showed an incredibly accurate image of a large Gnoll holding a dark-haired fox boy in his arms while he swooned and the Gnoll's tongue lolled out. You gasped.

"H-how'd you get that!? Give it here! That's private you-" You reached for it in vain as she held it away from you.

"It's not real, it's AI generated." Su chuckled to herself, enjoying the image a bit too much.

Fionna nodded to herself and mumbled. "I guess you can do that, now. Amazing."

"No! Wait! We can't just brush past this. How do you have an image of me and Fin?"

"Look closer. The hands." Su directed your attention with her finger. You squinted at it, then recoiled.

"What type of magic caused me to have six fingers? Why is Fin's delicate, pale hand so fucked up? What did you do?"

"I didn't do anything. The AI takes pieces of images that it's broken up into pieces and generates a new image by referencing learned data. That's one of my Dad's new products."

"Oh..." You looked closer.

"I Guess it's just a bit wrong, now that I'm looking for issues."

"We developed the tech, but it was leased out a while back to a company that's mixing AI with game development. I think they said that they wanted to use reference data to generate realistic assets for terrain, characters and other stuff on the fly from a list of set references. Pretty neat."

"Don't care." You stuck out your tongue.

"Who cares. It's not real."

"Are you stupid?" Su squinted at you.

"Sounds like stealing." You offered stubbornly.

"You-" Su lunged, but Fionna held her back. You smirked at her.

"My girlfriend should do better to tolerate me~" You teased.

"I signed up to be the girlfriend of a cute twink overflowing with unjustified bravado."

"So? I guess that means-"

"Nothing's changed" She added smugly.

"Hey!" You gritted your teeth as you heard Fin laughing in your head.

Everyone stopped as you heard a knock at the door and heard your mothers voice. "Hey, guys? Ready to talk about your dad. Your friends can stay, but I think it should be just you two downstairs, okay?"

You looked at Fionna. She nodded back at you and answered. "Okay, Mom." She stood up.

"Let's go."

You both sat in the kitchen. Carolyn was sitting across from you both with an uncomfortable look on her face. She had her hands folded in front of her on the table and seemed to be searching for the words.

"What is it, Mom?"

Carolyn sighed. "Sweetie. Your dad checked himself into a psychiatric facility because he was tired of performing as a father in our family."

You and Fionna exchanged a look. She answered. "That is... Such a weird way to say something. Is that true, mom?"

"Okay. So... First of all, if it sounds weird that's just because I'm repeating what your Dad said directly. He does NOT want to deal with having a family and just wants to work in peace. When I told him that he would have to get a divorce and that we would be moving out of Suez to England he halted everything by checking him into an Asylum. But... He's obviously just using it as his private office." She breathed.

"I've been collecting evidence for the past few years. Technically speaking, as western as Suez is compared to the surrounding nations, Divorce is still hard here. I need him to sign but he chooses what goes in or out. My lawyers are working to get him, but I had to hire new lawyers and that alone took years because... Well, my lawyers were his lawyers and he has a lot of friends in government. Honestly, it's a miracle I'm still employed but I'm guessing he doesn't want to do me harm, he literally just does not want to deal with us OR let us go." She looked at you both.

"I know this is hard to hear since both of you love-"

"What a fucking freak, mom! Holy shit!" Fionna slammed the table. Carolyn's brows rose.

"I didn't like him to begin with. You're a far better parent."

She was touched. "You guys..." Carolyn wiped her eyes.

"If I knew you both would be this supported I would've told you ages ago. I just didn't want to trouble you with the knowledge that John doesn't... Want us. It was very sad for me, so I could only imagine how it would be for you. I'm glad you're both taking it well."

"Is there anything we can do, Mom?" Fionna questioned.

"What type of work does dad do out of the Asylum?" You asked a bit more pointedly.

"Oh..." She was surprised by the second question and addressed Fionna's first.

"There's nothing you need to do, sweetie. Thank you for offering." She then looked to you inquisitively.

"Where's this interest coming from? I guess there's no harm in telling you. Your father is a technological consultant and 'fixer' for several companies that work with cutting edge systems. What that means is, he contracts with companies to oversee development of new technology while connecting different parties together during development to find immediate users and buyers for that tech or product in other fields. He has his hands in everything from Cutting edge AI to Gaming and other areas." She straightens out her posture.

"Suffice to say... I think we should get quite a lot once the divorce goes through."

Fionna pumped her fist. "Way to go Mom!"

"Hehe." Carolyn giggled.

"Anyway, that's what's been going on."

"Do you know anything about magic?" You asked abruptly.

Carolyn looked at you briefly, then smiled and responded with what sounded like a stock answer.

"Your father is descended from an occult figure. So I know a bit just as a point of knowledge, but not much. Why?" She eyed you closely.

You, and it seemed like even Fionna caught that Carolyn was being a bit evasive with her answer. She was looking to you for what to ask or do. You just stood up and stretched, playing it off.

"Thanks, Mom." You went for the fridge and grabbed a juice box.

"No problem, sweetie. Do either of you want to talk some more? I've... Still got a lot of stuff I need to fix concerning Jacob's arrest."

"No, no. That's fine. You're a great Mom." You commented idly. Fionna stood up with a confused look and followed you as you walked out.

"What was that?" She whispered.

"You not even gonna entertain pushing the question? I think she knows something."

"I think she does as well. But... What does involving her do for us right now? Ideally we'd only tell her in order to protect her from John, but if she knows that means she's fine. She's also been fine for the past couple years, right? I'd rather just keep the question in our back pocket. I still need to learn more about magic on my own without drawing attention from powerful figures and who knows what she'll say or do with her superiors if she knows for a fact her son's possessed by something..."

"She'd definitely do whatever she could to get you out... Even if it meant killing you in the process of saving Finn." Fionna acknowledged.

"I'm surprised you don't feel the same."

"Well... I do, but I think your intent is enough for me to trust you to try and get it done your way. You've taken care of Finn so far, so I'd ideally like you to get what you want, as well. Also..."

"What?" You stopped and eyed her as she bowed suddenly.

"Thanks to the boyfriend you got in your head. Same dignity is extended there. Hope everyone can be happy, is all." She claimed

`What a nice girl.` Fin offered brightly.

"Hm. Alright. I don't mind that. Thanks, Fionna."

"You can call me Sis if you want."

"Sure." You shrugged, noticing her eyes on the back of your head. You corrected yourself.

"Sure... Sis."

Fionna beamed. "No problem, Bro!" She followed you up the stairs and asked.

"What's our plan, then?"

"Splitting responsibility."

"Hm?" She cocked her head to one side.

"We're a team. I don't think there's really a reason for it to be a decision or something..." You waited until you were in the room, then started directing everyone.

"Su. I need you to use whatever connections you got to look into our Dad. Figure out what projects he's got his hands in most recently, and most often."

"Sure." She gave a loose salute.

"Asuka. I need you to keep helping me to find more sources of magic and info on magic that I can use for myself to make this body stronger and I'll help your Aunt out as an excuse."

"Okay." She nodded solemnly.

"Thank you for the help. How many Djir points will I earn if I help you get stronger?'

"Djir points?" Su and Fionna asked at the same time. You were powerless to stop Asuka from explaining the system to them. Your face became more and more scrunched up and indignant as they all seemed to take the false system seriously, as if it involved actual, legal tender.

"I think I deserve a few already, to be honest." Su remarked.

"Don't I get a backlog of being the family of the body you're in?" Fionna insisted.

"Sh-shut the fuck up! You all get one to start. One favour. That's it. Got it? If you wanna earn more you actually gotta do something for me!"

"Like... Completing these tasks?" Su smirked.

"Like a game." Fionna chuckled.

"Sure. I'm down. What do you need me to do?"

"I need you to protect Carolyn and yourself. If Jacob was John's lackey, there may be more coming. So... It's up to you."

"Aye aye." Fionna saluted.

"Can we spend Djir points on... Physical favours?" Su brought up.
