"Do you know where Kassie is?" I asked as I headed to the exit door.

I sank down on my throne and groaned, glad to be off my feet. The door behind my throne opened and footsteps padded. Kassie appeared in her robes of blue with red trim. "Right." I stood. "I'll get on that."

Kassie blinked as she stood in a rectangular room. It had... divisions. Changes in the stone tile that showed how the rooms were to be broken apart. The two sets of connected teleportation circles she had already made where here, plus space for more. Each of those spaces had a large circle already inscribed in the floor to save Kassie time. On the wall was a plaque that said where each one was supposed to go.

It was written in two scripts. One she could read. One she could not. Lord Leo's speech. He spoke her language, but he didn't write in it. She nodded as he had already labeled one "Astovin" and the other "Bypass." She just had to make the Sharithin and the two backups.

Six magic circles.

She also was glad to see that the items she would need to do that were here. Chalk, string, protractor, and chisels. Of course, she had her own special chisel enchanted with earth. It would take about an hour per circle. This would not be done today. But tomorrow she should be finished with it.

Her poor back already ached.

But she had sworn herself to Lord Leo. He had saved her city. Her king hadn't bothered to. She hadn't even tried. That was the way of the world. If they didn't have the strength to defend themselves, then their rulers would not march armies.

That would leave them vulnerable to being conquered.

The fates and fortunes in this world changed fast.

At the mercy of the dungeon builders.

Leo seemed to think he had to figure it out. Solve the riddle of the shrines, not that Kassie had seen a riddle. To claim them all, he would have to have his power reaching across the entire continent. Hundreds and hundreds of miles of tunnels. His dungeon would sprawl everywhere.

He would have to conquer the world.

Or befriend it.

Well, Kassie would help him. Because he was one of the good dungeon builders. And if he ever turned against that, she knew how to kill him. It would destroy herself, but if he became a tyrant...

Kassie's heart quailed at that thought as she began working on the first circle. She loved Leo. She didn't want to think him capable of it. He had shown himself to be a good man. She had no reason to harbor these doubts.

So she went to work. She used her measuring stick to find the center of the already inscribed circle and marked it with a chalk. Then she drove in a spike and attached a string to it. Her compass. She would use it to mark out spots on the circle's edge with a protractor to figure out the angles and put in the sigils. She would not start carving until it was perfect in chalk.

It was a pity Leo couldn't just make the full circle with his power. But it seemed too fine a detail for him.

Or the rules of magic didn't allow it.
