'I would normally warn readers not to copy anything in these stories in real life but if you can do any of these things here you're probably already an evil super villain'
Chapter 1
Professor Grobyc and Lady Vix watched the roof collapse into the remains of his evil headquarters in a gush of flames that reached up and ignited the Fabulous Fives steam dirigible into a massive ball of fire.
"Yet another base gone," Grobyc mused, "Still, at least we finally got rid of those insufferable dogooders"
He looked down at his badly dented brass chest, "This is going to take some serious work".
Lady Vix turned to look at him.
"What we need is something more mobile, somewhere we can work and noone will suspect, and I have the perfect thing".
An evil smile spread across her lips, "Lets start a carnevil........."
Chapter 2 Halloween
In the fading light the pair walked through their new lair. "Everything's ready for tonights opening," Lady Vix stood outside her own personal tents emblazoned with the words CREATIONS OF VIX, the brass lettering glimmering in the flames of the pumpkins hanging above them, each carved with hideous faces.
The crowd followed the trail through the mist shrouded woods, draw by the offer of the Ultimate Halloween Experience and the glowing pumpkins swaying gently from the trees.
The carnevil tents nestled in a glade, the tents glowing eerily in the darkness. A ferris wheel spun slowly in the background, flaming skulls hanging from the sides, while carriages trundled along a rickety wooden roller coaster.
Booths offering games of skill or chance formed the main avenue enticing the visitors to spend their hard earned cash while others sold hotdogs and candyfloss, all decorated with cobwebs, skulls, bats and pumpkins.
Ayesha bounced through the crowded avenue a sticky orange and green striped candyfloss in one hand, the other towing her best friend kaz behind her. Leo and Max followed in her wake.
"Waz next," she shouted to the others over the thumping music, the screams and laughter of the Carnevil.
"Check it," Kaz shouted pointing to a sign just ahead. Beneath stood the barker in a top hat and tails. His face expertly made up as a skull.
His voice boomed out, "Enter the ESCAPE ROOM, survive the horrors within and get out within 1 hour and you get 100 dollars," a sharp scream from the tent behind him interrupted his spiel, "Are you smart enough, are you braaave enough to defeat the ESCAPE ROOM."
"100 dollars...We can win that," shrieked Kaz as she grabbed Ayesha, "100 Dollars."
"Okay, lets do it," Ayesha grabbed Leo and Max by the hand, pulling them towards the booth.
Inside, they face an imposing dark wood door, a large devil face carved into it's heavily grained surface. It swung open with an ominous creak that set the girls giggling nervously. A sultry female voice came from within, "Welcome, step inside and take your chance, you have one hour to solve the puzzles and escape," it paused dramatically, "If you fail, you loose the prize and seal your fate."
They stepped through the doorway...... it closed and with a grinding clang a metal bar locked it into place.
Chapter 3
On one wall a brass clock started the countdown, the electric tubes glowed red as the numbers ticked down the seconds.
The walls were all metal, covered in wheels and cogs except for one door in front of them. Etched into the door was the first task. 'To move forward, find the key, the moving teeth may show the way.'
"It's got to be something to do with all the cogs," Leo ran his hand over one of them, "They all have arrows on them and there are symbols on the wall around them."
Grabbing one of the cogs he tried to turn it but it stayed stubbornly still.
He tried one of the wheels and some of the cogs started moving. He tried another and more cogs moved."
Maybe we need to get all the cogs to point at the same symbol," Max added.
Kaz ran her fingers over the symbols around the cogs, "Ok, we got four symbols, a rock, a doll, a coin and this one looks like a face, so which one do we want."
Laughing Ayesha said, "we know which one you'd like."
"Lets try the coin," Max turned the first wheel, watching the cogs move slowly round until they pointed to the coin. Moving to the next wheel he moved the next set of cogs till they lined up with the coin but some of the first cogs moved as well.
"Shit," he exclaimed, "try another wheel,"
Leo, went to the other wall and turned another.
Another set of cogs moved, some of the original ones moved as well.
Kaz grabbed the fourth wheel and started spinning it. "Let me know if they line up."
There was a loud clack and the door opened revealing a closet sized space.
