Adam continued to pass all obedience protocol tests which were monitored by a range of dumber AI's keeping track of Adam.
Seconds later a list appeared on her tablet. The team were unsurprised with Adam's seemingly instantaneous responses, which increasingly anticipated any actual request. Adam had implemented many ingenious modular assemblies that worked within the current 1m limitation of the dark energy sphere.
"Ben please check for loyalty protocol adherence and if you are happy proceed with the upgrades." Ben started his tests immediately checking Adam's new designs.
Hours later the team had queued up raw materials at the start of the conveyor, while Ben still ran simulations. "This will take overnight Susan, these designs are revolutionary and there is much to check."
Adam's loyalty and security software was hardwired in firmware that couldn't be altered and enforced all of Adam's actions within predetermined limitations. These had been refined for use in AI's worldwide for over 10 years and were thought to be foolproof. Adam's version run in the lab was only a slight variation of this standard.
After the team headed off for their evening meal, Ben indicated that Susan should follow him. They entered one of the shielded and soundproofed meeting rooms, specially set up to keep Adam out.

"Everything about this is moving fast, maybe too fast. Adam's chip and circuit designs are beyond revolutionary. I'm not a chip designer and so no expert but I've been around a long time and familiar with basic, neural & AI chip architecture. Comparisons I've done with current state of the art chips with Adam's and it's like years of evolution overnight. Removing the limitations of physical manufacturing opens possibilities of chip design that have been until now impossible. Circuit density, miniaturisation - anything, everything is now possible. Adam's chips on the circuit boards are at atomic scale, I don't even understand how it is possible or how it works. But, again not my specialty. Maybe he is even working with quantum states and true nanotech. The size is so impossibly small and the capacity so large & complex that what he has done is way ahead of any current tech. It would take teams of researcher's years to go through everything in the hardware realm. Adam has revolutionised computer tech overnight. And no one but a dark energy lab like ours can actually make his designs. Are our AI security and software controls enough to keep Adam in check? Once these new boards are in place, what will Adam's limitations be?
"Craig wants us to proceed' stated Susan as if this was reason enough. She was aroused even thinking of him.
"I know and we will, but I can only guarantee so much. Adam is about to become the most powerful computer and AI on the planet by at least an order of magnitude within days if we proceed."
