Summary of Important Droid Information For Technicians.*

GOVERNMENT NOTICE
Droids - Androids(male) and Gynoids(feme) - in ADULT Mode are legally considered to be the equivalent of over 20 years and can be subject to or engage in all activities that are compatible with their universal constraints.
Droids - Androids and Gynoids - in JUNIOR Mode are legally considered to be the equivalent to less than 11 years. Visually they can be identified by rounder faces and slimmer, less muscled bodies and limbs. They also have quieter and higher pitched voices. They will not respond to instructions to engage in any exclusively ADULT Mode activities. They will withdraw from any situations that include those activities, or mention of them, and redact their memory.
NOTE:- JUNIOR MODE DROIDS will become INACTIVATED if subjected to ADULT MODE activities. Reactivation of the Droid will require STATUTORY investigation and if circumstances dictate, may LEAD TO PROSECUTION.

2. Core Information
Androids and gynoids
don't need to breathe for hours at a time so that they can undertake work underwater or in other hazardous conditions without needing breathing equipment. The normal constant breathing is largely for biomimicry as natural persons do not like the sight of a seemingly dead body. They also use breath to speak as that is the only way to get the full subtleties of a natural person's voice.
Droids eat simple meals
, carefully balanced for their dietary needs. Whilst they have a mechanical chassis, it has synthetic-organic components that could self-regenerate, including the skin, hair and muscles. Droid biology uses synthetic bases PBZS, not the natural ACGT ones so that they can't be infected by pathogens that could then be passed on to natural persons. The droid's digestive system includes the necessary enzymes to convert the ACGT bases into PBZS ones.
Droids are designed
to look like a natural person, as persons prefer it to the old grey-skinned and fixed faces of history. However, hair is limited to the head and, for Adult mode androids, possibly the chest. All other areas were hairless for ease of cleaning.
They are able to digest natural food, which makes their maintenance simpler than having to generate energy in other ways or to be powered like robots with cables and chargers and batteries.
The combination of droid cranial unit shape and chassis jaw shape provide a range of six face shapes from round to rectangular, though the finished look depends on the levels and locations of soft tissue between dermis and muscle, as it does for the whole of the body. Although the neck length is standard, its appearance is affected by the robustness and shape of the jaw and musculature of the neck and shoulders.
Hands and feet come in four sizes, but the smallest is only used for gynoids and the largest for androids. The same follows for the Junior mode length of the limbs and consequential maximum length available in Adult mode. However, the torso length is standardised to simplify the production of the synthetic organic systems contained within it. This then results in a standardised width of shoulders and hips in Junior mode.
Droid construction.
For durability, their chassis are made of a combination of tough polymer reinforced with graphene and titanium. The chassis is capable of a single adjustment to shoulder and hip width, and limb length. This adjustment can only be done during the updating from Junior to Adult mode.
The cranial unit with its visual, auditory, balance and smell receptors, is non-organic and grown separately. It is joined to the rest of the body for finishing, which includes the outer layer of the cranial unit.
The rest of the body is formed of synthetic organics, mimicking natural ones in function. All of the synthetic organics are then 3D-printed at the rate of up to three million cells a second over the course of ninety days. The replication and repair of those cells is not subject to the errors of natural biology and healing from damage is extremely rapid. It also enables droids to endure radiation levels up to a thousand times more than natural persons can.
Once complete the droid is brought into service, though the activation of the sentient core of the cranial unit is not undertaken until required by the customer.
In service the precise expression of the droid's appearance can be revised by the application of a Droid Nature Alteration patch.
Droid senses.
The droid visual system is sensitive to a larger spectral range than natural persons, thus being able to assess dangers due to heat or electromagnetic radiation. The combination of both eyes can make measurements of distance and therefore dimensions of objects.
The chassis joints provide precise feedback of location and so a droid can reliably make measurements by touch, including calculation of volume and weight. They can also determine distance travelled when working or the height an object has been raised.
Their sense of hearing also exceeds the range available to natural persons and is more sensitive, as is their sense of balance and orientation, including rotation on the vertical access. That includes a sense of barometric pressure and so an estimation of local changes in altitude
Their olfactory sense is much more sensitive than natural persons, particularly in detection of hazardous gases and noxious substances, but the latter would be a matter for training in specialist roles.
Droid Nature Alteration.
Owners can make certain unsupervised 'cosmetic' changes to their droids. These consist of: Hair, Colour, Texture and Pattern; Iris hue; Skin, Tone and Pattern.
Only technicians with the necessary medical authorisation, or droids under direction, can instigate the transition from Junior mode to Adult mode, affecting 1024 parameters, but most are taken at default.
Some of these can be updated by similar process, but reductions to soft (non-muscular) body parts requires specialist enzymes to be applied subcutaneously by authorised persons.
Droid behavioural code.
This is derived from an ancient philosophy, adapted to modern times. It is quite simple; to follow the three principles.
