What is this...
It feels, safe... And warm
Who keeps calling me? Let me sleep, damn you... I don't want to wake up... Why..?
Why don't I want to wake up...?
...
"How long is she going to be like this?" Kyle growled, his body bent over his mate in a protective stance. "Why can't I hear her?"
"Kyle, I know as much about fae magic as you and that's very little. I can't tell you what afflicts your bond, only what ails her physically." The pack doctor soothed, attempting to draw Kyle away from his mate. "Please, step back so we can care for her fully. She suffered a great deal of trauma and, though your saliva has helped, it isn't going to heal all of this fully."
Kyle allowed himself to be pulled away from the bed, his wolf howling at their inability to heal their mate. He sat heavily in his chair, the weight on his shoulders almost too much for the man to bear. He took several deep breaths, gazed fixed on the window, as he tried to ignore the aching loss of his mates bond.
...
Kyle... whose name is that?
Why does it make my heart jump?
Who is Kyle?
Kyle?
...
'Kyle?'
Kyle jumped from his chair, abruptly woken from his sleep as the confused question sounded in his brain. Looking at the startled face of the pack doctor, he knew that the question had been internal and not spoken aloud. 'Tia?' Nothing. His mate was silent again.
"Doc. I heard her; just a second ago." He gazed longingly at the prone form on the bed, the rise and fall of the chest the only evidence that his mate lived.
"Good. Rest Kyle, all will be well."
...
Why do I ache... Can't I go back to just the endless whiteness...
I don't want to feel...
Don't make me face... face what? What happened...
Kyle will know; he'll protect me...
He'll protect us...
...
"Kyle."
He gently roused from sleep, his neck stiff from having hung forward as he slept. "What?" He asked, looking up at Chloe.
"James needs you, upstairs." She said, appearing to brace for some form of outrage. "I'm sorry, but it's very important. I'll stay and watch her if you want."
Kyle sighed, stretching, in some ways glad that he had a reason to leave and occupy his mind for a bit. Anything to take his mind of the emptiness he felt. Standing, he went to the bed, pressing a kiss lightly to his mate's forehead, trying to convey in that one action all he felt and regretted. "Please, tell me if anything changes." He asked solemnly. He turned and left before he had a chance to seem his Beta nod, and fix her gaze on her Alpha.
Walking the halls, Kyle watched as his pack moved out of his way, heads down and whimpering slightly. They were unsure of how he felt and thus how they should act. No one knew what it was like to lose their mate bond; Tia presented an unknown. Sighing, he calmly ordered the pack to continue as normal and thanked them for their commitment to the fight; he had neglected to do so in his rush to get his mate to safety. He felt the whole pack relax as his words were passed through the web of the packs mind, all that was left was a concern and love for the alpha pair. They had all seen Tia teach and help them, though she wasn't a true Alpha yet, she was pack.
Eventually, Kyle made it to his office, presuming that James had set up camp on his desk as he usually did. Opening the door, he failed to refrain from smirking at the state of his once pristine room. Paper covered every surface, post-it notes clung to the wall like a flock of butterflies and a rather smelly werewolf occupied the leather chair.
"Alpha, good I need you to look at some of the security tapes Dean managed to snag on the way out of the palace." Dean was the most technologically advanced member of the pack and had the job of dealing with anything remotely technical. "It appears to show a meeting of the fae council."
Leaning over the chair, Kyle watched as a motley group entered an oak panelled room and sat around a large table. Kyle recognised the fae Queen and many others from Tia's memories, his anger bubbling to the surface as he saw a fae with purple hair enter and sit.
James paused the video. "He says a lot sir, so you're going to have to try and keep the growling and snarling in check for a bit." He said, casting an irritated glance at the Alpha. "Besides, you should pull up a chair, they're fae, and nothing is done quickly."
...
I want to see his face... hear his voice again...
Lexter... No... not Lexter...Who are you?... Why do I miss you when I don't know you?
