Wife of Medusa
In a titanic chamber deep underground. I stood shield in one hand, sword in the other. This was it, time to prove my loyalty to the Gods, to prove that I could slay the mighty Medusa. That I was worthy of my status of being a Demigod! Sucking in a deep breath, I readied myself to face this terrible foe.
"Face me terrible serpent, Mortal Sister of the Gorgons! That which turns all to stone, priestess that Athena shunned from her temple. I shall liberate your head from your shoulders! Laying it at the feet of the Gods of Olympus." I shouted, banging my swords against the shield in my arm. Trying to draw the attention of the terrible beast. Closing my eyes in preparation, as the air in the cave thickened. It was here that I would fight for my privilege to be admitted into the Hall of Heroes.
"My, oh, my. Little Hero that has come from far to slay me! To face me, do you really want to face me? I have slain many that desire to take my head," a hissing voice hummed.
I widen my stance, preparing for an attack. Holding up my shield higher, I opened an eye looking at the reflection of my shield. From the corner of the shield, I was able to see the long glimmering snake tail of the Gorgon. It was wrapped around a pillar, but I didn't see her body, it was just the mammoth tail that was flicking about.
"You smell like fear," she hummed, and it felt like it was right by my ear. Swinging out with my arm, while clenching my eyes shut. The strike hit nothing but air, as my sword passed harmlessly through the air. A soft feminine peel of laughter echoed in the chamber.
"Hero, you'll never hit what you can't see. Do you dare try to catch a glimpse of the great Medusa?"
"Fight me," I snarled, lifting my shield higher to cover my face. Opening my eyes again, I caught sight of a mass of snakes that were looking at me. Gasping, I closed my eyes and rolled dodging a snake that was trying to bite me. Looking into the shield again, I saw her tail once again, I felt the air shift as something slapped into my body.
It sent me sprawling through the air. I slammed back first into a pillar and moaned in pain at the impact. My legs felt numb, but I still forced myself into a standing position. Reading myself for the next strike, the pillar I had my back to was shaking, tilting the shield upwards, I caught sight of a burning rainbow eye. But just as quickly as it had come into view it vanished. Then I felt something coil around my ankle.
'No!'
My legs were pulled out from underneath me, I lost hold of the shield. Barely keeping hold of the sword that was in my hand, but my body was brought up into the air and then slammed me into the ground.
"Ergh..." I moaned in pain. Everything hurt, but my training remained steadfast as I kept hold of the sword. Breathing in through my nose, I swiped trying to cut my ankle free of the tendril that has it.
A shrike split the air, as I felt something hot splash against my ankle. Smiling, I jerk the sword out of whatever it has cut. Rolling, I draw in a sharp breath, my back hits nothing. 'This was bad!'
"Hero, you surprised me, you managed to hurt ME!" Her voice was a growl. "I'll have to HURT you back!" I felt the tremors before the ground shook as something forcefully hit my shoulder driving me backwards. Something sharp slipped across my cheek cutting my face.
My body was pinned into the wall, I couldn't free myself no matter how much I struggled. I felt a warm and firm tendril slip around my arms. Then it looped around my stomach, her coils encased me. She gave a hard squeeze and I felt my arms go numb as I lost hold of my sword, I thrashed to the best of my ability. But it was useless! She had me completely immobilized in her body.
"Release me Gorgon!" I snapped kicking out with my feet. Her tail, I assumed, was thick and warm as it wrapped me tighter in her grasp. Not tight enough that it stopped me from breathing, but tight enough that I couldn't escape.
"Oh dear, it seems that your quest has failed my little hero! How quickly you were felled," she hissed as a small snake touched my face. It ran through the blood on my face, I felt a warm tongue flick its way across the wound. Then a warm itchy sensation began, if my hands weren't bound I would have scratched at it! The skin began to knit itself together, I wanted to raise a hand and touch the area that had rapidly closed up.
Why had she healed me?
Her tail shifted and I felt my feet being lifted off the ground, the hold of her coils tightened, and I found that it was bordering on unpleasant now. Still keeping my eyes firmly shut, I refused to give her the pleasure of turning me to stone so quickly.
"Look upon me, Hero of the Olympus! You, Demigod, should be able to resist my petrification even if only for a second. Do you fear your fate, do you dare not look upon me?"
"Never!" I spat. Trying to free my arm from her coils. But it was like trying to escape from a pile of rocks, she was unmoveable. Her strength was unmatched, was it useless? Was she right had I failed my quest to slay her?
"Should you not desire to face the serpent that you see as a blight?" She hummed. Another snake slipped around my face nudging at my eyes.
"If I face you I shall turn to stone! I don't desire an end as a statue in your lair, devour me, Gorgon, that I might know a true death," I gasped as she bound my body tighter.
There was silence, the only sound I could hear was my own breathing, it was laboured. Blood thrummed in my ears as I fought against passing out. My mind was fuzzy from the lack of oxygen...
"Athena may have cursed me, but she gave me one consideration. No woman shall be turned to stone by my eyes. Hero, you shall become my wife, I'll make you into a cock hungry maiden," her voice lulled.
Hacking, I felt air return as she uncoiled allowing more air to be drawn into my lungs. I took gasping breaths as I tried to drive out the feeling of suffocation. However, that apparently had been her play, before I knew it something slick slid into my mouth.
