Ben and Emily had been together over a year now. After that first time spending the full moon with her he had actually helped her build a new device to secure her that was a little more comfortable because he couldn't stand watching her hurt herself like he did that night. The version she had was created over 100 years ago so it definitely needed some upgrades which involved chaining her to a bed instead of keeping her upright all night. Only issue with that was when she laid in the bed and toyed with him she looked even sexier but he still did his best to resist her.
One day Ben found himself in a jewelry store. He had not intended on being there but as he walked by he couldn't help but stare at the case full of diamond rings. The longer he stared to more conflicted he became and started to think about the long term of their relationship. Problem was as much as they loved each other she was immortal and he wasn't which put an interesting spin on "till death do us part" but still he couldn't pull himself away.
They had never talked of marriage or anything like that. She always seemed to avoid talking about anything of that nature as it was almost like she didn't want to think about it. The one time he asked her about it he got a very interesting response.
"Do you ever think about the future?"
"What do you mean? Like space travel and what not?"
"No you nerd! Haha! I mean... us?"
"I try not to!"
"Oh?"
"Look Ben, I know the deal, someday you will either die or leave or whatever! I just don't like to think about that, I live in the moment and enjoy life in that way, it's taken me a long time to finally get this way because thinking about the end just... hurts!"
"I see, so this had happened before?"
"It has!"
"So why do it to yourself again?"
"What do you mean? Would you rather I leave you?"
"No but i just... I couldn't imaging losing you, and then doing it all over again!"
"Ben I love you, and someday it will hurt like hell but I'd rather feel pain then feel nothing at all!"
"Three Days Grace fan I see!"
"Shut up! She said with a smile before laying back down next to him and watching the movie. He held her in his arms and started thinking about the future with her which is what led him to the jewelry store he was standing in now trying to decide if he should buy a ring or leave.
Later on Ben was on his way to see Emily as it was the night of the full moon and he was spending the night with her as usual. He spent just as much time at her place now as she did at his. She had given him a tour of the rest of her apartment showing off all the stuff she had collected over the years. As amazing as a lot of it was there were times it almost felt cluttered but only in certain rooms. The bed room was very large, open and comfortable
He had just gotten off the subway car at the nearest stop to her apartment and was heading up. He walked down the street as their was still a few hours before sunset and they liked to spend that time together. He was almost there when someone when he heard a voice to his left.
"Hey buddy, spare some change?"
He saw a man in a hooded sweat shirt standing in the alley. He could not see his face or anything but he knew he was talking to him.
"Excuse me?" He replied.
"Change? A dollar or anything?"
Ben was hesitant but he was in a really good mood today so he reached in to his pocket and pulled out a few ones and walked over to him.
"Here's a few bucks, it's not much but its all I have on me." He said handing him the cash.
"That's alright, you've already done plenty!" The man said as he raised his head and Ben saw his red eyes staring at him.
He wasn't sure what was going on but suddenly he saw a fist rush towards his face and everything went dark.
---
Emily was sitting in her living room waiting for Ben to arrive. She was excited to see him as usual but still felt a little bad that she had to put him through this at least once a month, but he was always there for her.
As time moved on and she realized he hadn't arrived yet she was starting to wonder what was taking him. She called his cell and got no answer, she called the front desk and they had not seen him as of yet. Her mind started playing tricks on her as she was starting to wonder if he had left her. So many men had done this too her in the past that it was hard for her mind not to go there. She began to think that maybe he had enough and couldn't take it anymore. Maybe he had found a human girl who wasn't this much trouble.
As all these thoughts ran through her head she slapped herself across the face trying to snap out of it. "Dammit Emily, you know better than that, stop it!" She said calming herself down when it hit her. What if something else happened.
----
Ben awoke a little while later to a loud commotion around him. As his eyes began to focus he saw dozens of red eyes looking at him and laughing as he found himself tied to a pool table with a gag in his mouth surrounded by Vampires.
He looked around the room and it looked familiar to him. The red curtains and style of the place made him realize this was the bar where he saw Emily for the first time. "Shit!" He though to himself as he was analyzing his predicament. He also saw the man from the alley telling them how he tricked him. Only reason he knew it was him was because he recognized the hooded sweatshirt.
"It was easy, I just told him I needed change and the dumb ass gave me some! He should make great full moon entertainment tonight! Oh and even better, I found this in his pocket!" He said holding up a small ring box with the ring he was planning on giving Emily.
