Author's Note: I'm trying more character development, sorry for the wait. Do you guys like more of this story driven stuff or more of the right to the point stories? I do plan on continuing this, I just didn't want one story to have like 20 pages or so. As always, feedback is appreciated! Enjoy :)

"...night shift, common janitorial duties..." Frederick said to himself as he got out of his car.
The twenty-four-year-old man looked up at the colossal skyscraper. It was around nine p.m. this was his third day on the job. The titanic structure was owned by Sigil Corp, a manufacturer of countless sex toys that were designed for both humans and monstergirls alike. He ran his fingers through his jet-black hair as he walked towards the door.
"Good evening!" Frederick greeted the receptionist.
"Good evening!" The cute brunette replied.
"I'm the new...ish janitor. My name is Frederick. It's a pleasure to meet you, miss?" Frederick answered, his faint southern drawl showing.
"Oh, uh... Hedlam. Miss Hedlam." The receptionist said, blushing lightly.
Frederick swiped his time card to check in before he walked to the elevator and pressed the button for the top floor. As the door was closing, he heard someone call out.
"Wait, hold the door please!" The feminine voice rang out.
Frederick grabbed the door, preventing it from closing. As the door opened, he was glad he held the door. Standing before him was a beautiful woman. She looked around 35 years old. Her pale skin complimented her dark brown hair that stretched to the small of her back, her eyes were a lovely brown. She was only a couple inches shorter than him. Frederick tried not to stare. Her charcoal grey coat and black skirt gave him the impression she was a bit above the typical drones in the office. Maybe a manager?
"Thank you," The stunning woman spoke with a sweet but deep tone, "I'm Callista, Mr. Shaughnagan's secretary."
The woman pressed the 25th floor button on the elevator.
"The CEO?" Frederick stuttered.
"Oh... uh yeah, and you are?" Callista asked, smiling.
"Frederick, I'm just a janitor Miss Callista." The young man replied.
"You aren't just a janitor, we need custodians." Callista reassured him.
"I suppose you're right. Thank ya miss." Frederick said, his drawl pouring from his lips again.
"Where are you from? I can tell the south. Is it Louisiana by chance?" The secretary asked him.
"I spent some time in New Orleans. I tried to hide it most times. But I'm a bit distracted at the moment though so it slips." Frederick explained.
"I see, I grew up in Monroe. Although I've since lost the accent. I miss hearing it though." Callista commented.
The door slid open. The secretary walked out first.
"Well, have a good night Frederick." Callista said, looking directly into his dark green eyes.
"You as well, Miss Callista." Frederick said, letting his accent flow unhindered.
The elevator door closed.

Frederick yawned as he walked out the front door at 4 a.m. The streetlights in the parking lot flickered. He fumbled around his pockets, looking for his keys.
Suddenly, Frederick was struck on the back of the head. He dropped to his knees; his vision blurred.
"Grab his wallet and phone!" An unfamiliar voice yelled.
"Fuck that, I'll take him!" A threatening female voice said.
**************************
Callista hadn't realized what time it was, of course it didn't help that she required very little sleep. She slid towards the door in her true form, a dark purple slime. She reached an appendage out to touch the knob. The monstergirl hesitated, changed into the brunette. She had to go home before she logged too many hours. Only Mr. Shaughnagan knew she was a monstergirl.
When she reached the parking lot, she saw a man with a bandana over his face and a blue Oni trying to stuff something in their car. Callista had a gut feeling something was wrong. She tried to avoid looking at them. She wasn't confrontational but this felt different. Callista took a quick peek at their car. Then she saw a hand propped up against the window as the two closed the door.
"Oh my god!" Callista said aloud.
"Drive!" The Oni shouted.
The two rushed into the car and it sputtered to life. They backed up and started speeding off out of the parking lot. There wasn't time to call the police, Callista sprinted towards the car with inhuman speed. She turned into her slime form and burst through the back seat as the kidnappers tried to make their getaway. She temporarily absorbed the man in the backseat and flowed out of the car. As the car sped off, Callista called 911 as she looked down and saw the janitor bleeding profusely from his head. She gave the dispatcher the address and prayed to the Allmother that the ambulance would get there in time.

Frederick opened his eyes to find that he was in a hospital. The secretary he met was sitting in the chair across from him, fast asleep. He took a shaky inhale. The woman immediately woke up.
"Thank the Allmother you're alright! I was so worried!" Callista exclaimed.
Before he could talk, the woman was hugging him.
"What happened?" Frederick asked weakly.
"You were hit on the back of the head and were almost kidnapped 3 days ago. I saved you and the paramedics took you to the hospital." Callista explained.
"Holy shit... thank you." Frederick said, trying to sit up.
"Here, let me help you." Callista commanded, standing up and helping him adjust.
A nurse came in his room as Callista sat him upright.
"Mr. Furtem, the police are here to ask you a few questions about the attack. Are you feeling well enough to talk to them?" The nurse asked.
"I suppose so, I don't really remember much." Frederick mumbled.
"I'll stay with you, they already questioned me, but I might be able to help you remember." Callista stated.
"O-oh... okay. Thank you." Frederick replied, unaccustomed to this kind of attention.
He could feel his heart skip a beat as her hand touched his arm. Her hand felt cool to the touch, but he felt his skin heat up. A small fire felt as though it had ignited in his heart.
The nurse leaned outside the door and motioned to "come here". Two police officers came in. One was an Arachne and the other a centaur.
"Mr. Furtem, I'm officer Danford and this is officer Kilaya. Do you recall anything from the night of August 22nd? " The Centaur asked.
"Um... I was going to my car in the parking lot, I work as a janitor for Sigil Corp. I got hit on the head by something. And I think I heard a woman say, 'I'll take him.'." Frederick stuttered.
The Arachne was writing down notes as he spoke.
"Did you get a good look at the attacker?" The Centaur asked.
"There were two attackers, one man and one Oni." Callista interrupted.
"We are taking your account into consideration Ma'am. This is his account of events." The Centaur retorted.
"I only heard the one." Frederick answered.
Callista glared coldly at the centaur.
"Do you have any idea why you would be attacked?" Officer Danford asked.
"No, I'm just a janitor." Frederick said flatly.
"Alright, do you have a number that we can reach you at?" The Centaur asked.
"Uh, did they take my phone?" Frederick asked, looking at Callista.
"You didn't have it on you when you were brought in." The nurse answered.
"Shit... uh..." Frederick sighed.
"555- 8792. Its my cell but I will be taking care of Frederick until he has healed." Callista interjected.
"Thank you, Ma'am." The Centaur replied, "We'll call you if we find out any more information."
The two officers filed out.
"I'll have the doctor come in and make sure you're okay to leave the hospital." The nurse said before leaving down the hall.
"Thank you Callista, but you don't have to take care of me, I should be fine to-" Frederick started.
"It's no problem Frederick, besides, I would feel better knowing that you are safe in my home than have those cretins come back and kidnap you." Callista said soothingly.
"What about work? My job?" Frederick asked, his voice wavering.
