Chapter 2
âThis goes out to all non mortals in Tempest CityâŠHala Tramayne is no longer one of us. She is not to know anything about usâŠAs far as she knows there is no such thing as vampires, were wolves, demons, or anything else for that matter.â Aden said in all of their minds.
Quayd shook his head. He did not need to hear Aden telling him to know Hala was no longer a vampire. He felt it when it happened; it was as if a peace of him disappeared. âWhat will happen to Tempest City now?â He asked himself as he headed straight to November-Eveâs place.
When he walked in, she smiled at him then said, âI have been expecting you.â
âI know.â He replied as he pulled up a chair to her table. âWhat is going to happen?â He asked with worry in his voice.
âQuayd arenât you the one that told Hala not to hold on to human emotion?â She asked as she raised an eyebrow at him. He began to answer her but she stopped him, âDonât speak⊠I know.â She paused to take a drag off her cigarette. âQuayd, everyone needs a hero.â
âOk and what is that supposed to mean?â He asked
âI think you knowâŠâ She replied, âLike I have said before you and Hala were destine to meet. You belong together.â
âBut Aden said she isnât to know about the dark world any more.â He said angrily
âThat is true; he did say that. But honestly Quayd do you think he would want to see harm come to Hala?â She asked
âHarm? What harm?â He asked
âCalm childâŠand listen very carefully to me.â She said in a soothing voice. âYou and Hala have been in many lives togetherâŠand weather or not she would believe such a thing now doesn't make it not true. It was her choice to become human again⊠In addition, because of that, she has sealed her fait. No matter how many times you save her, no matter how close you watch her, you canât stop what is going to happen.â
âThen what is the point?â He asked in a hopeless tone
âLoveâŠQuayd. It is in your nature; you canât help but save her.â November-Eve replied
âBut now that she is human againâŠI meanâŠshe doesnât even know meâŠor remember anything of me and her being together. She doesnât even remember that she use to love me.â He replied, as his anger grew more.
âDonât doubt the power of love.â She said âHer soul will know youâŠit always does.â She paused and looked at the clock. âYou need to go now.â
âI was going to go to Black DragonâŠbut I donât think I can face her yet.â He replied
âSoon⊠very soon.â She said
The next thing Quayd knew he was outside setting on the sidewalk in front of Black Dragon. He turned with a jump when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He did not have to turn around to know it was her. âAre you ok?â She asked
âYeahâŠâ He replied, âYou better get in there you are late for work.â
âExcuse me?â She gasped, âHow did you know I was late?â
He turned to her, âLucky guess.â He replied as she looked at him strangely, then she turned and walked in.
After Hala was inside the silver wolf walked over to Quayd and transformed into human form. âQuayd I see youâve found her again.â He said in a cold tone, âWord has it you had her, but youâve seem to have lost herâŠand she doesnât even remember you.â He laughed
âJonathan, is that the only reason that brings you to town?â He asked
âOh come nowâŠyou canât still be sore with me.â He replied, âWeâre old friendsâŠface it Quayd I am the only friend youâve got.â
âYouâre not a friend of mine.â He replied, âYou have only come here to cause me more trouble than you are worth.â
âOn the contrary, I have come here to make peace with you.â He said, âI came to ask you to rejoin with meâŠthink of the possibilities.â
Quayd glared up at him and replied, âI would never join you again...the possibilities! You mean a blood bathâ
âYou know you want tooâŠit is in your nature.â He said, âBlood is your life!â
Anger and fire burned in Quaydâs eyes, âYouâre not going to do this again.â
âYou know me very wellâŠI love a challenge.â He said, âSee ya âround buddy.â
âLeave her out of this!â He yelled as Jonathan made his way into the club.
Chapter 3
âHala, youâre behind the bar tonight.â Robin said as Hala walked over to her. âYou donât look to good, are you sure you can work?â
