"I've figured out who you are." She said, eyes following an elf woman running with a dog. We were in the park, sitting together on a bench. Lily had chosen to use an elf as her public face, and as she studied the woman with the dog, minor details were corrected. She fiddled with the hem of her skirt, clearly still feeling awkward in clothing. "The first time we spoke, you felt familiar. But your name didn't match any I'd encountered. I was quite sure of that. It was confusing... but you're Samael. Did you allow yourself to be born into the world as a human? You must have, else your angelic name would not be obscured from my sight."
I was surprised she'd figured it out on her own, but not at all displeased. Though everyone else in the park continued to see a human man, the hand that grabbed her shoulder and pulled her closer to lean against me was scaled, and the wing that folded around her was large and black feathered. Answering verbally didn't seem to be necessary.
She snuggled into me, sighing softly. "I should have taken you up on your offer. But being declared unfit for Adam, and thinking you were just... that it was because you felt sorry for me, and..."
I touched her lips to quiet her, gentle despite the talons that tipped my fingers. "You've never been far from my mind, Lily. Azazel has been watching over you for me, and sending regular reports."
She blinked emerald eyes at me, clearly trying to process that monumental revelation. "Azazel works for you? Then he's not truly fallen?" I watched the gears move behind her eyes, as she remembered countless times Azazel had adjusted situations to make life easier for her, to make life easier for others too. Words and small gestures that now took on new meaning in her memories.
