With a smile on my face, I lit the match and let it fall on the Kerosene-soaked floor. The flames roared, and rushed toward the trio of Vampires bound to the wooden pole, their howls of pain and fear sweet music to my ears as they burned to ash within seconds. Three fewer blood suckers in the world, all in a day's work. I slowly walked out of the warehouse and back to my car. My name is Amina Ibrahim, and I hunt Vampires for kicks.
I wish I could say that I hunt Vampires because they've done some bad things to me and my family, or because I feel grave concern for the welfare of mankind in a world overrun by the undead. If I said that, then I'd be lying. I like to kill things, and since it's considered okay to slaughter Vampires, I might as well get into it while the going is good. I was born and raised in the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota, shortly before The Darkness. My family is originally from Somalia, but I don't remember much about them.
In 2017, the world discovered the existence of Vampires. They've been around for thousands of years, hiding among ordinary humanity. Humanity has been at war with the Vampires for a long time. During the Crusades, both Christians and Muslims banded together against the undead in Western Europe and the Arab world, and thus prevented a Vampire takeover of the ancient world. Modern Vampires are far deadlier than their ancient predecessors.
For starters, they can walk in daylight when they absolutely have to ( sunlight weakens Vampires but it doesn't kill them outright ), possess superhuman strength and speed, and it takes a lot to kill them. Sunlight, crosses and garlic don't do shit to them. Only decapitation, immolation or a stake through the heart stop them for good. When the Vampires got exposed, they went on the offensive and started the mass-infection of humans, creating veritable armies of the undead. All of a sudden, instead of a few thousand Vampires, millions of them roamed the planet Earth.
