Sorry for taking so long, I went from having a job with 10:30 hours a day to have no job at all. *Sighs* that is life. The good side is I was able to finally finish it. So without further words, enjoy the last 6 chapters of this story.

Chapter 39

"Compassion"

*

Meadow

*

I look at Agape and smile, she is sitting next to Gideon, his arm around her shoulder holding her, they look calm and in peace. I walk to the next room and Aeneas is arguing with Queen Isilwen on matters of past history between their races. I chuckle and walk to the table and sit next to Cara, who I look upon with more than a little concern.

With everything happening, I was aware but consciously pushing aside the fact that Cara had a personal problem with Agape; more than a problem, an important issue. Even when she showed interest on Agape's healing process and some sympathy towards her after hearing her story, I knew that her lost was a constant reminder of what was missing in her life. As long as Cara was well, Alex was under control, but I was not worried as much about him as I was worried about her. I knew that sooner or later, I've have to put both of them together and let Cara unwind.

'

We will, soon.

' Caleb instantly replied my mental questioning and I frowned, turning my head to find him right next to me.

'I am sorry, it is so hard not to hear your thoughts...they are so strong and filled with emotion.

' He said with a small chuckle and the sweet sound of it made me shake my head and smile. He leaned and kissed me softly, I tasted the juice he drank not long ago from his lips and I sighed.

"Sorry to interrupt but I have the new dosage of serum ready." Aeneas interrupted our thoughts with the small vial of liquid in his hands, his pledge not far from him and expecting for orders. I didn't like her.

"Agape, are you ready?" I asked looking at her and Gideon tightened his grip on her, she looked at him briefly then back at me with a tense nod. She stood up and walked to me, both of us following Aeneas to another room. We had agreed earlier we would do this alone, but both Caleb and Gideon would be close in case any of them was needed. The truth was that, every experience was new, different and unique and we didn't know how she would react.

She sat on the big couch at one of the meeting rooms and Aeneas set to the task of preparing the injection; he pulled out a syringe from his pocket, broke the envelope and pulled it out. Half frowning, he examined the yellow liquid from the vial and continued the process while he pulled the liquid out with the syringe. Both me and Agape watched him closely, unable to speak or move. He finally turned around and looked at her with a smile. "This should not hurt".

There was certainty in his words, perhaps I was his test subject after all, and he improved the formula after me. He walked to her and asked for her arm, she slowly gave it to him and he started proving the place where he would place the needle. It only took a mere second for the needle to slide inside her and spill its liquid; she bit her lips and closed her eyes, leaning against the back of the couch once Aeneas removed the empty syringe. We remained silent for a while, she shivered slightly a few times but besides that, there was no sign of pain or any kind of damage to her system; I wondered how this would work on her different than me, since Gideon could not mark her, things would definitely be different.

"Let's give her room and time to recover, I modified the formula so she will remain dormant for a few hours before she wakes up. It will be slower than what we did with you." He said to me softly and I perked a brow.

"Why so much different?" I asked, genuinely concerned and intrigued.

"Well... you were my first ever patient to try it... and your mate was on a rush... he wanted you back yesterday, if you know what I mean." He chuckled and I blinked a couple of times with the surprise and embarrassment of the obvious revelation; yes, I felt silly for not realizing it sooner.

"But she will be better after this, won't she?" I asked him again, wanting to be more than sure.

He nodded and gestured me to the door to go first. "You can send the human to look after her if you want, she should be fine. My serum will break the magic bond, his presence will give her comfort and reassurance when she wakes up."

I nodded and we both headed back to the room where everyone else was waiting. As soon as I saw Gideon he jumped up from the chair and looked behind me searching for Agape, I was sure. I smiled to him softly. "You can go watch her if you want, but she fell under a deep sleep, don't try to wake her up, let the serum work in her system and break the false connection, she will wake up in a few hours."

"Thank you, both of you." Gideon said with a huge smile on his face, and after that he almost ran to her. I chuckled, the change on him so radical from the person I once fought and almost ordered dead. I was glad I had chosen on the side of compassion.

I smile to Caleb who is talking to Queen Isilwen and waving me off with a hand gesture. I take advantage of it and walk to Cara, gesturing her to follow me outside. Once we are both out, and after I wave and smile to some members of the pack passing by, I give Cara a hug. She stiffened, surely surprised. "Cara, thank you for being so patient and helping out with Agape... I know you more than anyone has real and understandable reasons why not helping her or being near her, yet you stayed loyally with us, me and Caleb, backing up our decisions." I told her and then let her go.

She half smiled to me and looked down with a hint of sadness. "At first, it was really just me trying to hold it together and not making her look more important than just a prisoner of war." She started with almost a whisper. "But then, things made sense slowly, as I heard the story behind her behaviour, and watching her interact with you... She never asked for forgiveness, but in a way, I think she can't or doesn't want to forgive herself either... I think she left us capture her on purpose... more than that, I think she wanted us to kill her..."

"What do you mean?" I asked a little shocked by her revelations.

"When we found her, she launched herself to us with speed and strength, but real tactics... it was weird, me and Alex thought it sloppy, but I think she did it on purpose... Well, now... back then I thought she was crazy, as everyone else always thought of her. She wanted us to hit her, to hurt her. She didn't offer real resistance until Cornelius started fighting to get her back, only then what I suppose was the fake bond worked in her and made her try to go back to him. But before that, I see she was letting herself be captured, with the purpose of us killing her and ending her pain. I remember seen tears in her eyes, she wanted us, me and Alex, to kill her. She picked us to put an end to her madness. If Alex didn't have killed already his brother and take in part his own revenge, probably we would have killed her. But we captured her instead..." The words rushed out of her mouth and I was surprised on the way she rationalized everything from her perspective; and I agreed with her now, knowing the little more information that she fed me, it was probably guilt and pain what drove Agape to be taken after all.

"I am shocked, really. But more than that, I am proud of you Cara. You have thought about this very objectively and well. I think you are absolutely right." I reassured her after some seconds of silence.

"I can't hold it against her, I know what she did was cruel and inhumane, but she was driven by madness and an inhumane force as well, she had this evil creature shaping her to his will. She has suffered, in her way, much more than we did, and I feel like we are even. I hope we can put that demon down and give her and everyone else some peace at last." She ended and kept quiet, looking far in the distance, to nowhere in particular.

Cara never ceases to amaze me, and she never will. She was right, with all of it. "I am proud, so proud of you Cara, believe me." I said with a smile. She blushed and looked to the side trying to hide it from me, then Caleb and Alex both walked out towards us.

"Everything ok between you two?" Caleb asked and I rolled my eyes chuckling.

"As if neither of you did some eavesdropping..." I managed to say before his smiling lips pressed on mine, a warmth running through me that reminded me of the first kiss we had. This was good; I survived the demon's cursed bond, Agape was on the process of the same, and we were joining forces to defeat the evil entity we came to known as Cornelius.

He walks from one side to the other as he watches the faces of his warriors; their dirty, pale and haunted looks made him grin with satisfaction. "They took away our Luna... took her against her will, brainwashed her and want to use her against us..."

Many growled, others howled, he smirked and nodded before he continued. "But we won't let them... no we won't... we are going to fight and bring her back... you know we have the Goddess on our side!" This time, everyone joined in threatening growls.

"It has come the time for our final battle against their tyranny and we will show them who we are and claim what is ours... what the Goddess has gave us... we will rule this world, no matter how many heads we have to crush to the ground! This is our world! our land! this is our time to take over!"

Louder howls and cheers were heard amongst the warriors, their crazed faces revealing the decadence of their own state of mind and body.

"Tonight... no one sleeps... Tonight, we prepare for war!"

Chapter 40

"From Peace to War"

*

Caleb

*

I grin as I feel her shiver, each time my lips brush a part of her skin, she moans softly and goosebumps arise on her silked skin; I love waking her up like this.

I sense trouble just seconds before Alex knocks on our door. Meadow wakes up completely with her eyes wide, striking me in their beauty even though I know I should focus on the urgency of a new situation. She gives me a scared look, I take her hand as we both walk down to meet my second.

"This better be important Alex..." I said with the most used line of all times, but it is truly what I feel. I was enjoying my time with my future wife way too much to feel any less irritated by his interruption.

"Alpha, they are hundreds, so many. Cornelius sent a first wave to attack and they got caught in the border, struggling under the effects of Queen Isilwen and her kind's powers. They did not retreat, the bulk of them are waiting, they haven't sent more but our outside contacts confirmed they are there, waiting..."

I growl and Meadow squeezes my hand trying to calm me down. "Can we prepare to move over there?" She asks me and I turn to look at her confused.

"What do you mean?" I ask, trying to sound as calm as possible.

"Diminish the damage to our land, take the war he is bringing to the border, where we can prevent their arrival to our core. Cornelius is a demon, given enough time he will figure a way to pass thru the Queen's defenses. I don't want them to reach us, our homes, our heart." She said in her worried but wise tone. I admire her courage and reasoning, she is definitely my pair also as a leader, thinking of things I might not see as clearly as she does.

"Alex, gather them all and we will coordinate the battle to be taken at the second line." I said nodding to him, as he walked out I turned around and smiled at her. "The Drows power will affect our people too, Princess... so I will take your idea and suggest the closest thing, the next line should be safe for us."

She blushed as I closed the door and smiled. "I don't want to give orders on top of yours, nor sound like I am doing them either." She began and I perked a brow at her words. "I mean... I am sorry if suddenly I am speaking when I shouldn't. I am used to speaking my mind but I know you are the Alpha, the leader, and I will be more careful..." I didn't let her finish, I kissed her hard and deeply, loving the feeling of taking her by surprise as well as her breath away.

I pressed her to the wall and she moaned as I grinded on her. I had to force myself to stop due to the circumstances but Goddess do I want to take her right here and now. I feel her breathing heavy on me as I pull slightly away, both of us catching our breaths. "If there is anyone who can speak her mind about things such as these, it is you. You are my Luna, my moon, my companion... my equal... you complement me... and I trust you with my life Meadow..." I whispered with my lips brushing on hers, she squirms between my arms and I chuckle. "Let's get ready to meet them or we will be having a different battle here in a few seconds."

Minutes later, when we arrive to the meeting, Aeneas is frowning to what one of his pledges whispers to him. He bows his head in acknowledgement of my presence and I do the same, a mutual agreement to show each equal respect in front of our people.

"Rowen, they started a couple of hours ago and we are only being notified now? why are we being kept away from this?" He asks as he moves towards me slowly.

I look at Alex and he lowers his head. '

Explain, now.

' I command.

'

Queen Isilwen thought she could handle them and scare them away but as the hours went by she noticed it wasn't going to be as easy as she had expected. The confirmation of our outside informants of Cornelius being there with more fighters still has made all of this more difficult. It became clear to the Queen that she needed to let us become involved at this time .

' As Alex passed the information to me and Meadow, I looked at Aeneas who was becoming a little calmer.

"We are just finding out about this now as well, Aeneas. The Queen thought she could scare them away, but looks like this is it... Cornelius is still close and watching..." I say and see Demark arrives, he nods at me and I respond in the same way. '

He is ready...

' "He speaks to me quickly and I pull Meadow closer to me as I nod to him once more, he turns around and opens the door to let a scared and pale Smithson walk in. I feel Meadow tense and my grip around her tightens. As the young alpha meets my eyes, he lowers his head in shame. I sigh in frustration, this young pup is going to be horrible leading his people if he cannot take responsibility for his actions and man up. Not a good time for a life lesson but it must be now.

"We are leaving in 10 minutes, prepare your people please. Now clear the room and leave us and Smithson alone." I say and people leave the room quietly. Meadow tried to leave but I did not let her, she needs to be here, and she needs to confront the pup as well.

As soon everyone left, I stood up and took a deep breath, I want this to be over quickly. "Pup, you need to remember you are not just a wolf anymore, You Are An ALPHA!, And You Need To Start Behaving Like One! You claimed my mate as yours but it was because of a fucking demon who manipulated you, now it is over, stop behaving like a kid and MAN UP."

The pup looked at me with wide eyes, he was surprised and taken by my words, most probably I could have gone easier on him but time is running out and simply not a luxury we have.

"I apologize, again, to the both of you." He finally said as he struggled to keep his eyes up on us. "I apologize for the bad moment."

"I am sorry you had to go through all of that, too. Nice to meet you by the way, we haven't had the time to introduce ourselves properly." Meadow gave a step forward and extended her hand, I could see her still blushing. I chuckled inwards.

"Pleasure in meeting you Luna, and I can only hope I can find one day my true mate, to have a glimpse of the happiness and companionship you both show." He said taking her hand in his gently and kissing it. I control myself to witness this gesture, as I know they are being just polite to each other.

"Well now that we have all of it sorted out, it is time we face our demon. Smithson, your people... will you be ok leading them? I have a plan..." I grin as something comes up to my mind. The pup looks at me confused but nods; I wasn't sure what help he could bring until now, this battle will get a lot more interesting.

I am happy I didn't have to argue much with Caleb for this, he didn't want me in the field of battle but he also was aware that Cornelius was smart, and he would think of a way to get to me just to get to him. If I was close, his chances were almost nule to take me.

We are finally established in the woods; I can see Queen Isilwen not far from us and her powers are strong. I see several wolves on the ground howling in pain. Caleb takes my hand and walks amongst our people, most of them shifted except the scouts on the top of the trees. "I am going to ask Queen Isilwen to let them go, this will encourage Cornelius to push and attack. Demark's people are a few miles ahead ready to aid the drows taking them to a safe distance. That is when we enter, our first line works as a shield, they will stop his first wave. The second one is the punch, we will strike back. The last one has the deadliest warriors, and me. I will need you to take an important role here Princess..." He says to me and I pay close attention. "I will need you to stand in the middle of that circle of trees, alone."

I look at him in shock; I would have expected him to tell me to hide or run back town, to stay close to him even. But to stand in the middle of all, to be there as a target, that was beyond unexpected.

He faces me and takes me in his arms, I can see pain in his eyes and I just know this was not an easy choice. "Princess... I've thought on every single thing we could do... but he is so unpredictable, I just can't see his moves before it happens... Aeneas offered me one definitive course of action, he will be after you, he will come no matter what to get you... This is why I am letting you be a bait for him. Aeneas and his kind, all of them, are going to be in charge of protecting you. They have orders to let everyone else, including me, die if they must... as long as they protect you..." He whispered and the words almost failed to come out of him. I saw the pain behind his decision and I squeezed his hand as I lifted myself to kiss him.

"I understand, and I am glad you considered this option... yes, I am surprised, and I won't lie, I am scared... but you are giving me an active role in this battle, and this I know. You will not let me go in his hands. I will rather die than let him take me, of that you can be sure too." I assured him, in a way that perhaps sounded too much like a goodbye.

It dawned on me how if all of this became true, this was the last battle, our last stand, our last fight against him. Against this evil creature that has ruined so many lives and crushed souls on its way passing by. He closed his eyes holding the rage, the pain in his choice was crushing him and as consequence me as well. I wrapped my arms tight around him and crushed my lips on his. '

If I have to die, let it be in battle for our freedom, because living afraid is no way of living... I trust you are going to save me no matter what... and you can be sure I won't be an easy catch.

' I smiled at him as I tried to communicate all my hopes and trust to his plans.

He turned around and looked straight ahead, he is determined to win this and so am I, for us, for all of us. He lifted his gaze to the cup of the trees to meet the gaze of our scouts, then finally he closed them and shifted. I was unsure of what to do, he didn't said if he wanted me to shift as well or not, so I stayed human to add to the vulnerability concept. I headed to the circle of trees he pointed out to me, I felt Caleb's gaze close as I reached them. There, I felt something else, something different; it was cold, it made me shiver. I looked around a bit scared then I saw Aeneas hovering in the shadows, he was in a trance, connected with something beyond my knowledge. I saw his pledges near him in a similar state, and I wondered what other mysteries surrounded him and his people.
