Part One:

Exhaustion hit me like a train. The office was busy. It was that time of year. It was the perfect storm, new hires, new projects and people taking out their dick to get into dick measuring contest over who got what. Truly, it was a hellish period at the office. Leaning back in my chair, I glanced up from my computer, pulling my glasses off as I rubbed the bridge of my nose. Bending my neck, I felt the crick, twisting softly. The pops went off down the back of my spine.

'Knock Knock'

Looking at the door, I find my insufferable co-worker, Jasmine standing there. She's got her hair pinned up the thick black curls styled beautifully into a stern bun. Her lips were cherry red and her eyes a bright grey stood out against her warm almond color skin. The pants suit that she was wearing was held together with a chunky belt that highlighted her tight stomach and thick hips.

Raising her left hand she had a manilla envelope in his hand, her perfectly styled fingernails tapped the envelope. "Good Afternoon, I thought I would bring you the documents for the Anderson case." Her sing song voice rang throughout the office space.

She entered taking quick strides as she arrived in front of my desk. Before she placed the envelope onto the mass of paperwork that was already laid out on my desk. Leaning over her round and perky tits were hovering just above my computer screen. I cleared my throat, pushing back from the desk allowing the rolling chair to put some distance between us.

"Thank you, I'll be sure to take a look at it," I told her softly.

The smell of fruit entered the air, it seemed like a sweet tangerine. Trying to be discreet, I sniffed a little, and sure enough the smell was wafting off of her along with vanilla. Standing straighter she placed a hand on her hip and gave me a raised eyebrow. Almost tauntingly, that was part of the reason she was so insufferable it always seemed like she was looking down on me.

"Given all the work you've got, are you sure that you don't want me to take it over?" She asked, puffing her chest up. Rolling my eyes, I settled back into the seat and crossed my legs, the skirt that I was wearing rode up a bit. Her eyes glanced down at the exposed skin of my thighs, I made no move to adjust the skirt.

"I'll handle it myself." I motioned with my eyes towards the door. She drew her eyes away from my skin, to meet my eyes with her steel grey ones, before she turned promptly and left the office. The glass door closes behind her, shutting out the sound of the office. Picking up the manila envelope, I thumbed my way through it. Blowing out a breath of air as I settled in for a long night.

By the time I had finished getting through my caseload the office was quiet and dark. Without a sound still in it, glancing down at my watch, it read nine thirty. Goodness, talk about overtime, standing, I found that my legs had numbed up a bit, I rubbed a hand along my butt that was feeling similar.

Pulling open a drawer in my desk, I fish out my personal phone. Opening it up to find that I have zero messages. I snorted, what had I expected, I spent most of my time at the office. There wasn't any time for personal relationship, much less, even the casual hook up. Truly, I was married to the job.

A notification in my email caught my attention, pressing the app. I open the email and skim it quickly. It was a simple flier from a company that specialized in finding the perfect pet for you. They guaranteed that it would bring you the much needed relaxation that you couldn't find in your day to day life. The pets they had were exotic. But they offered consolation with one of their workers to find the best one for you.

"How had they even gotten my email?" I laughed out loud. Reading it over, I found that the place wasn't too far from home. Looking at the day it was Friday. They had extended hours on Friday, they stayed open all the way until midnight. It would take about 30 minutes to drive home, and it was only an extra five to get to the store.

"What had it said... We can find you the perfect pet in just twenty minutes?" I murmured, reading over the slogan. Something inside me was curious enough to just take a leap of faith. Gathering up all my stuff, I hurried out of my office, feeling giddy.

I had always wanted to keep a pet, but my mother had been allergic and I had never gotten one. Maybe, it was time to do something for me. That's how thirty minutes later, I had gotten all green lights, I arrived at the small shop that was inside of an older house.

The sign out front of the house read: Umbra's Exotic Pets. Parking my car on the street, I crossed the road waving at a nice gentleman that had stopped to let me cross. Now standing in front of the charming building that seemed rather homely. I pushed forward, my heels clicking across the walkway as I made my way to the front door.

A little open sign with a little dinosaur on it greeted me, through the small window in the door. I saw the pet shop that was bathed in a warm and welcoming light, grasping the door handle, I pushed the door open. The smell of berg mound, and sandalwood greeted me.

All around me once I was inside were cages that looked like works of art, some had birds other's were displayed that held snakes and all other manners of creatures. There was also a mixture of different toys for the critters displayed on tables. Some also had cute little outfits that were obviously for puppies and cats. In the center of the room was a small display that had a group of puppies that were curled up into a little pile of cuteness.

I walked forward pulled into the shop by the ambiance, more than anything, it was so far removed from the corporate world that I lived within. Looking down at the little fluff balls, I watched as they rolled over one another all a jumble of limbs and a smile ease onto my face.

"They're adorable aren't they?" A voice sounded from behind me. I turned a little startled, I hadn't seen anyone else in the store. A plump woman with an easy smile stood behind me. She had long brown hair that looked just as soft as the puppies in the pin. Her outfit was simple, with the logo of the shop plastered across it. The shirt was a warm cream, that she had paired with a simple grey long sleeve to cover her arms.

Her plump shapely body made it look sexy. Not to mention the tight jeans that highlighted her body even more. Drawing my eyes up I found that her face was covered in a smatter of freckles that made her look cute, her brown eyes were dancing with amusement as she waited for me to respond.

"Oh, yes, they're very cute. I'm sorry you startle me a bit," I told her. Trying to laugh off the embarrassment that I felt after giving her a once over. I wanted to kick myself for being so obvious about her body. Either not upset or used to it, which was worse, she just kept smiling.

"It's okay, I get consumed with the fur babies too! Were you coming in looking for something specific?" She asked me.

Sucking in a deep breath, I give her a kind smile. Thankful that she made no comment about my weird behavior moments earlier.

"There was an ad about how you can help people find the perfect pet that will help with stress?"

She beamed even brighter at me as she clasped my hand that had been resting at my side. Her hand was warm, and I found that I didn't dislike her touch. "Of course, please follow me."

Pulled along, I followed her as we entered deeper into the converted house to shop. She leads me through a hallway towards what I assumed would have been the kitchen. It still had the kitchen aspect to it, but at the same time it had been converted into a small office space. The wafting smell of sugar hit my nose, and I felt my stomach twist in hunger.

It must have made a noise, because she dropped my hand and hurried towards the counter where there was a fresh tray of cookies. They were beautiful, or scrumptious might have been a better choice of words. My heels clicked along the hardwood floor, as I moved towards the counter. She grabbed a napkin and plucked a cookie off the tray and offered it to me.

"Sorry no one was there to greet you. I had these in the oven, and I didn't want them to burn. Take it as a way of apology," she chirped, pushing the cookie into my hand. I wanted to argue that it was no trouble, but once the warm, sugar smelling treat touched my hand. I couldn't find the words to tell her anything but...

"Thank you," I brought the cookie to my mouth and took a bite. Warm gooey sugary goodness spread across my tongue. I nearly moaned in joy, when was the last time that I had eaten a homemade cookie? I couldn't help it as I devoured the cookie completely.

She giggled, I blushed slightly and used the backside of the napkin to dab at my mouth. "You're more than welcome to have another. Other than taking care of the lovelies, I love to bake!" She winked at me, as she moved to the desk and grabbed a pink laptop. She turned and headed back towards me as she motioned to the chair at the bar.

Lowering my bag into one of the stools, I slid into the other one. Smoothing a hand over my skirt to hide a bit of my nerves. It felt informal, but the moment she set her laptop down on the counter top. The vibe in the air grew serious, she flipped the computer open and tapped a few keys as she got herself situated.

Biting my lip, I could still taste the chocolate on them. Raising one of my manicured hands, I took another cookie. A warm joy spreads through my stomach at the prospect of another one of these tasty delights.

"Okay! It's really simple, the email was pretty straightforward. We'll do a little questionnaire, super quick, I know it said twenty minutes. But I've been doing this for ten years," I choked at her words. Lowering the half of the cookie I had yet to devour.

"Oh dear," she quickly grabbed a glass and filled it with water. She passed it to me. I gave her my best nod and I tried to dislodge the chunk of cookie caught in my throat. Guzzling down the water, I felt sweet relief.

"Apologies, it just caught me off guard, you said ten years?" I kept taking tiny sips as I eyed the girl in front of me. She was cute, I had thought at most that she was in her early twenties. But it seems that she was far older than she appeared.

She smiled sweetly, before nodding her head. "Ten years, it's been in the family for years. I'd been helping out throughout my childhood, but ten years later I took it over."

"That's impressive! Did you do something else before taking over this place?" I asked, finding it easy to talk to this woman. Most of the time I was guarded, reserved and removed from most people. However, it was like a fish to water with this woman.

"Something is the right way to put it, but enough about me. We've got to talk about you, about your needs and lifestyle to see if we can't find the right little critter for you!" She clapped her hands, almost as if she was banishing the question from the air.

"Tell me about yourself," she prompted and I straightened my back. Telling this stranger in front of me, who was named, Tandy, all about myself. The words came with an ease that felt freeing as I spoke to her. She asked me some leading questions here and there, and sure enough twenty minutes had passed as she key'd in some information into her computer.

"Now you know all about me. It almost feels like I'm naked now," I mused as I played with the fourth cookie that was clasped between my fingers. Tandy laughed softly as she shut the computer, her face in an easy grin.

"You know pets say a lot about their owner, and vice versa don't you that the owners say a lot about their pet. Either way, it's been a blast talking to you. I've got the perfect little one in mind for you, now, I warn you. That it's an unconventional pet, exotic, perhaps, doesn't even cover it, but I think it would suit you beautifully."

I perked up, I thought after telling her the hours that I worked that I would be an unsuitable pet mom. That anything I would get that wasn't cold blooded wouldn't be able to survive me.

She waited expectantly. "Of course, I have faith in your choice," I told her with a brisk nod of my head. The blonde strands falling forward at my excessive movement. Her grin intensified as she nearly jumped with joy.

"Okay, I'll be back in a second. I have one ready, it was for another client, but they turned down the little one after they realized that they wouldn't be able to take care of it. Now don't let that seem as if it's impossible, it's quite an agreeable little one," she quickly said. She swiftly breezed out of the room vanishing behind a door, I was left to my own devices.

Fiddling with the cookie, I put it down, and reached into my bag fishing out my phone. There weren't any messages at all, I leaned my head forward closing my eyes. God, it was so lonely, I really needed some companionship. Straightening, I made a pact with myself that with whatever Tandy came back with I would accept the pet graciously and raise it with love.

Tandy entered a moment later with a small carrier. It was similar to a cat carrier except that it was sealed and clear almost like a display case. Inside of the cage was a small creature that was about the size of a small kitten. Except it didn't appear that the creature had any hair on its body, it was a glittering rainbow color almost like bioluminescent.

Tandy placed the crate down onto the counter just ahead of the tray of cookies. I looked down at the creature. It almost looked like a slug, but it wasn't quite that it had two slim bunny eques ears atop of its head. My eyes met Tandy's who were sparkling with excitement. Never in my life had I seen a creature like this one.

"What exactly is it?" I asked her.

"It's a newly re-discovered species. I call them Bioslimes, there are, of course, other species of slimes that are coming into the light. But these bioslimes are just so pretty. Not to mention smart, they are able to accurately judge the state of their owners. As I was saying, a pet says a lot about their owner and vice versa. You're an intelligent woman, Stella. An intelligent pet is exactly what you need." She spoke warmly as she nudged the crate closer to me.

The little creature was swaying side to side as it inched towards the part of the crate that was closest to me. It's little ears twitching as it looked at me. Although I didn't see any eyes on it, the strange creature was endearing in its own way. I placed a hand onto the crate, the little bioslime touched the glass where my finger rested.

I felt something warm in my heart. "How much for him?" I asked.

Thirty minutes later, thousand dollars poorer, three bags heavier and a bioslime. I found myself sitting in front of my apartment building with the crate in the side seat. Tandy had covered it with a black covering, saying that it was the best way for them to travel and that they were sensitive to light. She had quickly packed me three bags of goodies that she said would be important for me to have. Then finally an instruction book that she had penned herself on how to take care of these little creatures.

I collected myself and made quick work of transporting everything inside. Passing by the security guard that was stationed at the welcome desk to my apartment. He flashed me a winning smile, he was an older gentleman but he was nice enough.

"Good Evening," he said.

"Good evening," I replied. That was where the pleasantries ended. I was glad that I had at least managed to make time to workout. Between the three bags that Tandy had given me, along with my work bag and the crate my arms were full. To my surprise, the security officer spoke up again as I tapped the button on the elevator.

"Got a new pet? They're always such a treat, getting to watch something that you raised yourself grow," he commented. I looked over at him and his eyes were on the crate that was clenched in my hand.

"It's my first time owning a pet," I told him.

"You've got to set up a schedule, they need it the same way we do." He said, thoughtfully as the elevator dinged. I gave him a reserved smile and stepped into the elevator. Quickly hitting the button for the tenth floor. It moved swiftly and without interruption, after placing all the bags on the ground. I quickly slotted my key into the lock, and opened the door.

Relief washed over me at the sight of my home, it was neat and orderly with a splash of color here and there. I quickly moved everything inside and shut the door with my foot. Walking to the table, I placed all the bags on the table.

Then moved the carrying crate with the bioslime towards me. Sitting down in the chair, I flipped the covering off of the little one. It was curled up in a ball, its ears bent back, it perked up the moment the light hit it and it wasn't covered up. It bobbed excitedly.

"Happy to not be covered up anymore?"

I ran a finger along the glass-like material. Tandy had said it was plastic, but it was so clear that it could have fooled me. The little creature shook its body, as it moved closer towards me. It tapped its face against its carrier. Almost like it was saying hello.

"Tandy said that it was intelligent," I hummed. Leaning over the carrier, I reached for the small booklet that had been penned by Tandy. It read 'How to Manage your BioSlime.' It had a cute little illustration of the slime sketched on it.

Leaning back in the chair, I placed it down. Unbuttoning the jacket that I had on. Slipping it off, I rolled out my shoulders. The little slime perked up as it appeared to watch me, it didn't have eyes, but it followed my motions with precision.

Standing, I decided there was no point in sitting down to read while in work clothes. A few minutes later, I was dressed in a simple pair of shorts with an oversized t-shirt. Grabbing a shake from the fridge, I sat back down, the little slime followed me the whole time.

"Alrighty, little one, let's do some reading about you!"

"Okay... Taking care of your BioSlime. It's a simple creature that lives off of a mainly fluid diet. They will eat meat if they have to but they prefer all types of fluid. Which you've been given to feed the little one, however, you can also feed it yourself if you want to raise your BioSlime all on your own.

Secondly, they adapt to their surroundings. If you feel comfortable you can let them out of their enclosure. They wouldn't try to escape or leave, they are very intelligent and quickly learn the rhythms of their owner.

Third, playing with your BioSlime is important. They need an hour of play, the play is imperative for their development and your ability to relax with them, as well.'"

It was a simple enough overview, there was more information. But it was about their discovery, I wonder vaguely what type of play these little creatures would need. Closing the little pamphlet, I looked at the little creature in the plastic container. My curiosity quickly got the better of me, I began to inspect the crate that it came in.

There were no holes that would allow air into the enclosure. I frowned and looked at the latch that was keeping it pretty much vacuum sealed together. It opened with ease, the little rainbow colored body of the slime perked up as it moved its way to the opening.

"Come here," I said. Trying my best to sound soothing, I tried to talk to it the same way that I had seen others talk to their dogs. It responded to my voice, its head touching the tip of a finger that I had extended to it.

A shiver passed over my body at the contact, it was warmer than I thought, it felt like a warm puddle of solid liquid. Its body pressed into my finger molding around my hand as it slid up the finger to the rest of the back of my hand.

"Wow, that was amazing." Its body had morphed as it climbed my hand. It now sat looking at me, its ear swaying. I wondered what it wanted, it was so adorable now that I was looking at it up close. It slid up my arm, its body not leaving a trace as it moved up my arm.
