The first thing that Zara noticed as she arrived was three girls, dressed in cheerleader outfits. They were practicing their routine, their laughter echoing through the park.
It was easy to notice that the girls were triplets. They looked exactly the same. Their hair was styled in high ponytails, bouncing with every movement. All three of them were brunettes but with blonde tips.
Their cheerleader uniforms were revealing, to say the least. The short skirts and tight tops showcased their youthful physiques in a way that was almost slutty. Each girl had a set of legs that seemed to stretch on for days, muscled and toned from their rigorous practice. Their breasts were not overly large, but they were big enough yet firm. Their midriffs were bare, displaying tight, flat stomachs, and the way their skirts flipped up every now and then made it clear they weren't wearing any panties. Their erect nipples were about to poke holes on their tops, proving that they also wore no bras.
As Zara got closer, she noticed the HSA initials on the uniforms. They must be from the HSA's High School like Gaylor, she thought.
"Hi girls," Zara greeted as she approached them, "One of you is my partner?"
"You mean in the course?" asked one.
"With Aritimi?" asked the second.
"Yes," replied the third.
"Ah, so you are my partner."
"No," they shook their heads, "We are your partners."
"All three of you?"
"Yes," they said in chorus.
"Our augmentation works best in a team, so we shouldn't split."
"Understood," Zara nodded, "By the way, isn't this revealing clothes against the rules or something? I don't want to be prudish, I just want you girls to get into no trouble."
"We asked Aritimi herself about this. She said we can even be naked if we want," one of them said.
I should have expected this answer, Zara thought.
"Oh, I'm Zara Cromwell, by the way," she introduced herself.
"Lexi Thomas," said the first, but then the other two introduced themselves as the same.
"Excuse me?" Zara blinked.
"I think we should show her our IDs," one of them suggested.
They showed Zara their cards. The first one was Lexi, the second was Lexy and the third was Lexie.
"Your parents had a sense of humor," Zara quipped, eyeing their IDs.
"People usually just call us the Lexisters," Lexi giggled.
"And why are you dressed as cheerleaders?"
"Because we are cheerleaders, you silly," Lexy chuckled.
"Being a cheerleader in the HSA's High School is a long tradition in our family. Our mother, her mother and so on since the school was built," Lexie added.
They were staying there, waiting for a few extra minutes.
"Sorry for being late, pupils," Aritimi stepped out from a portal. She was already naked and covered in a small layer of sweat from head to toe. She was also panting heavily as if she just ran a marathon.
"What happened?" Zara asked.
"I had to stop on my way here to help Bo fight a big monster on the other side of the city. The monster is trying to run away right now, so I don't have too much time to chat with you," Aritimi explained as a drop of sweat fell off of her right nipple.
"So... we postpone this week's course?" Zara asked.
"No need for that," Aritimi shook her head, "I got someone today for you, pupils. It's one of the units I planned for later, but this one is going to be a good time to see them in action. Follow me."
They arrived at a mostly ruined building from the portal.
"Whoa! That's a big destruction. It was the monster you were talking about?" Zara examined the damage.
"Yep. I'll have to go soon so I'll leave you here with my friend in this unit," Aritimi said.
Suddenly, a big pile of rubble, with big chunks of broken concrete, began to move and then as if it was grabbed by an invisible giant hand, it was thrown aside.
"Ah! Here she is," Aritimi pointed at the person who emerged from the dust cloud.
"She is the leader of the Damage Control Unit, Renée Marchand," Aritimi introduced her.
Zara didn't expect cheerleader triplets this morning, and she also didn't expect to see someone like Renée, because she was a mime.
She was dressed as a typical mime. Black and white stripped shirt, black pants, a small black beret tilted slightly to the side, and a face painted white with black around her eyes, nose, and mouth. Her hair was also completely black.
Renée tipped her beret as she approached. She was gesturing silently as a welcome.
"Keep this mime show for others, please," Aritimi snapped at her impatiently.
"You are ruining ze fun, Timi," Renée broke character, she spoke with a noticeable French accent.
"Look, I have to leave, but I don't want this day to get wasted so at least my pupils can take a look at your unit's job."
"Fine, we always need some extra 'elping 'ands," Renée replied.
Aritimi wasted no time and disappeared in a portal.
"You must be Zara, and you girls must be ze so-called Lexisters," Renée guessed.
"Yes," they nodded.
"Can I have a question?" Lexi asked.
"Why are you dressed up as a French clown?" Lexy added.
"She is a mime," Lexie corrected, "But yes. Why?"
"As a secondary job, I visit ze local 'ospitals and entertain ze children," Renée explained.
"It was you who lifted that pile of concrete before?" Zara looked at her and then the rubble.
"Yes, take a look," Renée pointed at a small concrete fragment. Suddenly, the mime's shadow began to ripple, although renée herself was standing still. Then the shadow reached for the concrete and touched its shadow. Renée's shadow then picked up the broken piece's shadow and almost a second later, the concrete piece itself was in the air.
"Cool!" Zara exclaimed, "That's some kind of umbrakinesis?"
"Oui, zat's my leetle party trick," Renée smirked, setting the concrete chunk down gently, "My Umbral Urias power can 'elp me lift objects by using my shadow. It works better on inanimate objects, so it's not really a fighting power, but at least it can 'elp me. Now, let's get to work. Follow me."
They walked through the site of destruction. It must have been a big building in the past because of the amount of rubble, Zara thought.
The members of Renée's unit were doing a good job at cleaning the place.
"I see you don't have to worry about having too many people here," Lexy acknowledged. Renée's team was indeed relatively small.
"Oui," she nodded, "Cleaning after a fight is not really ze job most 'unters want to do. Most people only want to fight and don't care about things like 'andling ze captured monsters or cleaning ze rubble. Zey just want to fight and zen move on to ze next fight. I 'ope Timi's course will bring us some fresh meat."
As they went further, Zara noticed two girls who were familiar for two reasons. Their face reminded her of a douchy, old researcher and their blue hair reminded her of this aforementioned researcher's daughter.
"Am I correct if I think that these girls are Serena's daughters?" Zara pointed at them.
The girls themselves were dressed in a rebellious style. One of them wore her blue hair in a mohawk while the other turned it into long pointy spikes.
"Yeah," said the one with the mohawk, "I'm Exene and she is my little sister, Cherry."
"Nice to meet you, girls," Zara greeted them, "I met your mother and your stepsister before."
"So you are goin' to visit this unit?" Cherry asked.
"Yes we are," said Zara and the Lexisters in unison, which made Zara roll her eyes while the sisters just giggled.
"I 'ave to check ze arriving trucks. Show zem what you girls usually do 'ere. I will be back in a minute," Renée said as she looked at her phone.
"Okay, girls," Exene started, "Maybe this unit is not as cool as some of the others, but just as important. So I hope maybe some of you may consider joining in the future."
"I can't promise that I will join, but I definitely give it a thought," Zara said, "How can we help right now?"
"Do you see that metal container?" Cherry pointed at one on a truck nearby, "Pick up all the rubles you can lift and throw them into the container. If you find something that you can't identify, then don't touch and report it to us."
The girls nodded.
"One more thing. Since not everyone requires it because of the augmentations, but we have some protective gear. You know, helmets, gloves, goggles, boots, anything you need," Exene added.
"No need for that," Zara shrugged, "My body is tough and I can regenerate."
"We also need no extra equipment," the Lexisters said in unison.
"Fine then," Exene nodded, "What is your power, by the way?"
