A series of explosions rocked the complex where Troy Wooten was being held, tortured, and interrogated. The "Fear" drug Dr. Elizabeth O'Shea injected in the human had done its job, and the once proud and defiant warrior was trembling in his bindings in terror. He didn't comprehend what was going on, and when the security alarm blared, he screamed like a terrified child.
"Shut up!" O'Shea demanded of her captive. The human doctor was unarmed and almost as terrified as her prisoner.
"The sirens croon like pink baboons!" Troy babbled, laughed hysterically, and then began to sob and tremble.
Gunshots rang out through the corridor. A pitched battle was being fought. Elizabeth locked the door and hid behind the bed holding Troy. Wooten was switching between laughter, crying, and gasps of terror. The drug was useful in a controlled environment, but in the chaos of this surprise raid, it turned Troy into a mess of emotions. O'Shea was thankful the man was well restrained.
The gunfire lasted for nearly two minutes, but it began to wane. O'Shea hoped it meant the security team was quelling the invasion, but when the gunfire came to an abrupt end, the loud banging of an axe to the doorway caused the redhead to cover her head in fear. After nearly a minute of hacking away at the steel door, the locks relented, and three furvoid females, a white tigress, a purple skunk, and a busty vixen burst in with guns drawn.
"Troy!!" the skunk called out in sheer horror.
"What did you do to him?" Ember Riley, the white tigress captain of The Shield Maiden demanded of O'Shea as she pointed her pistol directly at the doctor.
"N-neural...neural interrogation," she babbled and added "please, please don't kill me!"
"Which drug?" the vixen, Suzy, the ship's doctor asked.
"Panothenix Valconium," O'Shea squeaked her response.
"Fear drug, captain. He'll...be alright, in time, but we've got to get him on the ship, now."
"Please, take me with you. I'm not with them. My name is Elizabeth O'Shea, I'm an undercover agent with the Interplanetary Government Security Team. Call your people, they can verify my credentials!"
Audra, the skunk, was by Troy's side, stroking his bruised and battered face gently.
"Purple talking skunks, ha, ha, ha! I am the walrus! Koo-koo kachu!"
"Shoot her, Captain," Audra said with an anger the tigress had never heard from the sweet and demure skunk.
"No, Audra. She's coming with us. In chains."
"Captain, be reasonable," Elizabeth begged.
"You want to live? Bracelets," Ember said, taking the cuffs which once restrained Troy and tossing them to Elizabeth. Reluctantly, the doctor put them on her hands.
"Let's go," she ordered. "Help carry him on our ship," Ember added. With the handcuffs around her wrists, Elizabeth had difficulty helping the furvoids lift the injured and delirious soldier into the waiting ship. Their mechanic, Piper, was at the helm and immediately took the ship out of the planet's atmosphere.
Troy was brought to the infirmary. He was still interchanging laughter with hysterical sobbing and the occasional wild scream. They secured him to the examining table, strapping him down for his own safety.
"Are you going to eat me?" he asked Suzy with wide, bloodshot eyes and tiny pupils.
"No, Troy, I'm going to help you," she said calmly.
"You're a wolf, and wolves eat little children!" Troy said with an awestruck voice.
"I'm a furvoid, I'm a vixen, and I will not eat you. I promise. I'm going to give you something to calm you down."
"Will it hurt?"
"It might sting a bit," she said as she prepared the injection.
"Will I get a lollipop after?"
"Of course."
Troy then spewed off several dozen random words which were completely nonsensical to the doctor. He began seizing from the injection, but the vixen expected as much. Audra was by his side the entire time, helping Suzy with whatever she could. If the vixen needed any medical device, the skunk was eager to fetch it. She patted Troy's nude body down, for he was sweating profusely.
"This is my fault," Audra said as tears rolled down her cheek.
"This was not your fault, Audra. I need you to stay focused for me. Get me an I-V pack, just fluids. He'll dehydrate if we don't get some liquids in him soon."
The seizing eased, and Troy began to fall into a deep sleep. His eyes twitched rapidly, and every once and again, his body twitched. He even mumbled softly in his sleep. Suzy grimaced at the terrible shape Troy was in. His arm had been broken in three different spots, and it was poorly mended. His internal organs suffered bruising, he was missing a tooth, and his body was covered in bruises, cuts, welts, and wounds.
"What did they do to you, Troy?" Suzy asked as she let the emotions now take ahold of her. Audra saw the vixen's eyes well with tears. Now she was the one who consoled the doctor, as she embraced her. They cried in each other's arms. Ember entered the infirmary and saw the two girls embraced and crying. She assumed the worst.
"Is he...dead?" she asked, swallowing hard.
"No, Captain. He's seen it bad though. Real bad. I've never seen anyone endure torture like this before," Suzy answered her captain. The doctor cleared her throat and composed herself.
"Captain," Audra said, removing her face from the vixen's shoulder.
"Yes Audra."
"You made the right choice...rescuing him."
Ember pursed her lips to hold back her own tears and left the room immediately.
A day and a half passed. Audra stayed by Troy's side, barely eating or drinking. She slept with her head on his thigh as she sat in a chair beside the man. Troy began to stir and groaned.
"Ugh, what...the...fuck?" he asked in a hoarse voice. Suzy immediately turned around from her computer monitor and rushed to Troy's side. The skunk was still asleep on his leg, leaving drool on his thigh.
"Where am I?" he hoarsely whispered to Suzy, and then answered his own question, "on the Shield Maiden?"
Suzy nodded and put a glass of water to Troy's lips. He gulped it greedily, but Suzy avoided giving him too much at once.
"Why am I strapped to this table, and why...is Audra sleeping on my leg? And why am I naked, and why the fuck did you come to rescue me?"
Audra stirred as Troy regained his voice from the water.
"Troy? Troy, you're awake?" Audra asked. Her cute, innocent face was beaming with joy.
"I'm awake. I feel like I got into a fight with a Horkesian bear and lost."
"Captain, Piper, come to sickbay. He's awake," Suzy announced on the ship intercom. Within a few seconds, both girls rushed in and surrounded Troy. He was still strapped to the table, but Suzy undid the binds.
"I told them nothing. At least, I think I did," Troy said.
"I don't care what you told them," Ember said, and she embraced Troy who winced in pain at the sudden hug.
"Please, be gentle, Captain," Suzy scolded. Ember immediately released her grasp.
"Right."
"You shouldn't have come back to get me. You're lucky to all be alive."
"The base wasn't well defended," Ember said. "They thought remoteness would be enough security. They were wrong."
"We...couldn't leave you there. Not after all you've done for us...for me," Audra said. "You saved me."
