It was a cold night Cole said to himself as he walked home from work he should have brought his coat, but he stupidly thought that his jacket would be enough besides it was only a ten-minute walk to his boring old home, well it technical wasn't his it was his parent's home, well one of their homes it was a small two floor home simple upstairs, ground floor and basement (even tho he barely went down there) but it was a home and it was private as well, you would have to drive along a dirt path just to get there in the woods so it was nice knowing he didn't have any noisy or nosey neighbours plus he needed the privacy a lot of shit has happened in a short amount of time, and he just needed to escape just being away from everyone, 23 years old, fresh out of college, now here just to clear his head, he checked the weather report on his phone and saw that it would be raining with thunder, so he eagerly travailed down the gravelled path then the dirt path leading him to his home.
He went up to the familiar path and arrived at his (temporary as his parent said) home even tho they haven't contacted him in months, but he couldn't care less he was grateful to be given a place to stay he thought back over what happened a month ago.
It was like a movie in his head he shook those bad memories away he didn't want to remember what his so-called friends and so-called lover did to him it scared him, broke him he returned to his parent who allegedly dumped him here until he got back on his feet he hated everything around him unable to trust anyone. He just had to tough through it now what's the point in trusting and caring about people when they will just backstab you later on.
When he arrived home, his parent was at least welcoming, but he could tell they were disappointed and annoyed at his return, his father felt sorry and let him have the place until he was ready to move on, so he moved here to the middle of nowhere in a tiny town and found a job at a gas station, being at the front counter it was long and miserable, but he couldn't care less.
He saw the muddy turn up to the home he turned and went through the path, he thought constantly about what happened or a way to maybe prevent it or see it coming but now it seems so random, and they had been friends ever since they were at college so what the hell made them do it? Still, if he ever saw any of them again he probably beat them to a bloody pulp.
He saw a small home in the distance, jogging the rest of the short way, arriving at the front door grabbing his keys, quickly unlocked it, the creaky door opened slowly, the place wasn't horrible but it was his father's most unpopular home so it was why he was there but Cole always kept the place clean he wanted his home to be tidy something he always did at the last place he was also the cook too, he loved to cook and that's what he studied at college cooking he considers himself a pretty good one but now he just doesn't care in his mind he cooked for people to enjoy his food but now he had no one.
Walking in and taking off his shoes he looked around, as soon as you entered there was a hallway leading into a medium-sized living room with a small sofa and armchair in the corner, in the hallway to his left was a door that lead to the garage and his right was a tiny bathroom, connected to the living room was in its own room, a small kitchen and next to it was stairs leading up to bedrooms and another bathroom but bigger.
Cole took off his jacket putting it on a hook by the door and also hanging his keys he immediately went towards the heater turning it up the place was freezing the placed didn't have good installation it was one of the main problems with the place, walking now to the kitchen grabbing a beer (his new favourite drink) he returned to the living room sitting down looking at the TV, crossing his fingers and turned it on and then grumbled as it was just static, another big problem with the place was the aerial, it was crap and the TV would only work every now and again his father needed a new one, this place needed many repairs before it was actually livable but because of these problems and the location no one wanted it.
He sighed impatiently and looked outside he saw no ominous clouds, maybe the weather report was wrong he didn't know but an afternoon walk wouldn't be so bad he wasn't hungry so a walk would get him an appetite, he places his beer back in the fridge and got his jacket and coat he wasn't going to forget it this time and he remembered to grab some basic medical spray and bandages.
Another problem with the place was the area it was a forest full of poison ivy and other nasty plants but mostly it has wolves and bears not that he ever saw them but the spay and bandages are to make sure he doesn't get sick, he needs to get as much money as possible to get back on his feet.
Stepping out the back door from the used kitchen into the outdoors (he didn't need to lock up, no one would be here and he had nothing of real value here) he went for a walk the one thing that was nice about this place was the starry skies in the afternoon with no clouds in the sky it was peaceful beautiful even but also quite which would bring back the bad memories.
He shook his head pushing them out he didn't want to think about those he just wanted to enjoy a nice walk out.
He suddenly heard something looking around towards the direction he saw something small, getting closer to the sound it got louder it seems to be an animal cry, he got closer and he saw something shining.
He saw something struggling frantically it was small, he slowly made his way too it get closer it looked like a bunny rabbit but it looked odd, its fur was golden that shined a little the animal continued to struggle he saw something was caught on its leg.
Accidentally stepping on a large stick making an audio crack the creature froze and saw him, it begins to panic crying out loud.
"Sh, sh, sh, sh it's ok, I'm not going to hurt you," Cole said softly feeling bad for the creature.
The golden bunny stopped its ears down and was looking at him with fear in its eyes, he crouched and slowly shifted to it he never seen anything like this, a golden rabbit it seems impossible but putting his thoughts behind he saw what was attached to its leg.
It looked like a mini bear trap just small enough for large rodents, what the hell was something this fuck up doing here, he could see the teeth stuck into the leg of the rabbit, he had to help it, normally you would call a wildlife guide because it could be dangerous for the human and the animal as it might have rabies but at that moment he needed to do something.
He grabbed the trap and pulled it apart just big enough for the rabbit to move its leg getting it out, he closed it but the rabbit didn't immediately run off, Cole saw a small amount of blood coming from its leg he needed to bandage it up luckily he had some on him, he got closer to it the rabbit limped a little backward away.
"Don't worry I'm not going to hurt you I'm trying to help," Cole said to the golden bunny.
He gently grabbed it picking up the puny creature, it's fur was incredibly soft, he sat down on the fallen leafs and brought it close to him it was a chill day he wondered if it was cold, it seems to move a little getting comfy in his lap, he wondered if the spray could be used on animals he grabbed it from his pocket and checking it indeed could be used on animals that was neat he thought to himself.
"This is gonna sting little guy," he said holding the rabbit tightly.
He aimed it and fired the sprayed at the wound and rabbit immediately cried out and tried to get out his arms but he held it tight making sure it didn't escape.
"Stop fidgeting you rabbit this is good stuff...Why the hell am I even talking to you, you can't understand me," Cole said finishing the spay.
He places the spray back in his pocket and started petting the rabbit his warm hand glazed across its golden fur, the golden bunny seems to slowly calm down enjoying his touch it stopped fighting and relaxed in his lap he sighed annoyed and grabbed the bandage, the rabbit stayed in his lap as he stretched some out covering the wound the rabbit moved a little but it didn't run away so he continued.
He was done the bandage completely cover it, he tore off the reminds and got it snug into itself making sure it wouldn't fall off, picking up the bunny placing it in front of him he wished he had a carrot to give to the little guy.
"There you go now run off and stay out of trouble...Why the hell am I still talking to you?"
The rabbit seemed to tilt its head in response, he got up as he shooed away the rabbit it seems hesitant at first but then quickly left he sighed this was his one good deed of the day he thought even tho it wouldn't amount to anything, he turned and grabbed the trap he wasn't going to leave this laying around he would just put it in the trash once he got home, looking up he saw dangerous looking clouds he quickly headed home not wanting to be caught in it but he was unaware of the eyes watching him go.

A sudden loud boom of thunder hit the wet ground, making Cole jump from his seat he grumbled annoyed as the rain hit the windows he wasn't scared of thunder but the sound sometimes made him jump, he was back inside watching TV (it was finally working now) with some beer, he sank into the sofa relaxing he was glad he wasn't working late so he would have to suffer the weather but he did think about the golden bunny wondering if it would be ok.
All of a sudden there was a large knock on the door, Cole looked over suspiciously and got up who the hell would it be at this hour no one was around.
Making his way there he heard another loud knock.
