Perhaps one of the best known monsters among adventurers, slimes are a staple of any seasoned adventurer's resume of slain monsters. Transparent, gelatinous, sticky creatures of peculiar goo that consume all in their sight; this is the nature of slimes as known by most, but how accurate is this perception? The answer is that the above description is only somewhat truthful. While slimes can be dangerous monsters capable of digesting people whole, this is not the case for every slime. In this entry, common variants of slimes, their natures, and the level of threat that each pose will be covered and serve as a key resource for rookie and veteran adventurers alike.
When encountering a slime, the first precaution that should be taken is to observe what color the slime is. The majority of slimes are transparent with only a few being opaque, but all variants of slimes are of different colors. The variation in color may be obvious sometimes and miniscule in other cases, so proper lighting is essential to identify the slime's color. Unfortunately, the natural habitats of slimes are all dark areas with little to no sunlight. Caves, shaded forest floors, and dungeons are all ideal environments for slimes, so it can be difficult to properly see the color of these creatures when encountered. As a solution, ensure a torch or another light source is available as one should already be carried anyways by any prepared adventurer.
The first variant of slimes to be covered in this entry is the blue slime. If these little monsters could talk, they would tell you, "I'm not a bad slime." Like all slimes, this variant feeds off of magical energy, and the blue slime accomplishes this by feeding on energy radiating from ley lines. With limited cognitive functions even by the standards of slimes, these creatures pay no attention to any other living beings, and they are therefore of no threat whatsoever. This is a quality of the blue slime immensely enjoyed by alchemists that use blue slime jelly to produce a variety of potions. Budding adventurers are often hired by alchemists to slay these monsters, collect the blue slime jelly from their corpses, and deliver to said alchemists.
Unlike the blue slime, the green slime can be more of a nuisance. In order to nourish themselves with magical energy, they target humans who wander into their hunting grounds, ambush them from the dark, and begin feeding on them. The manner in which they feed, though, does not cause any physical harm to the person. Instead of consuming the bodies of people, green slimes instead harvest sexual fluids from their victims. Sexual fluids such as semen in men and arousal fluid in women which are both used in procreation contain magical energy; afterall, magic is defined as the act of creating something from nothing.
When attacked by a green slime, there is nothing an adventurer can do to escape on their own. The viscosity of green slimes is especially thick compared to their blue brethren, and the human body lacks the strength to escape once enveloped by it. In order to escape, another person will need to lure the monster away with a source of magic that will attract the green slime. However, escaping a green slime is not entirely necessary since they do not harm the humans they feed off of aside from dissolving their clothing. As soon as they have obtained their fill of sexual fluids, green slimes will release their prey and continue on their way with no further regard for the person they fed off of. It is because of this that some adventurers suggest that a person should simply relax and enjoy themselves when caught by a green slime.
