Aurora felt free. She has mapped out the location of the small town on her phone. She did not care that it was pack lands. She would run in her wolf form for as long as she could before she began to near the border. She hadn’t realized how much she truly missed her love until she saw her face through her phone screen. She loved her. Since the moment she saw her on the streets of london her heart ached to be near her.

Aurora knew that Jasmine loved her but she would never understand the full force pull of mating bond as long as she was human. Jasmine hadn’t wanted to be turned. Aurora didn’t push her too. She wasn’t sure if Jasmine could even handle being a wolf. All the wild aggressiveness constantly being pushed to surface. Jasmine was a gentle soul but she still had that lingering wildness that only sparked during their training sessions.

Aurora had equipped Jasmine with everything she needed to defend herself but Jasmine would never be as strong as Aurora. She had Alpha blood. She was meant to be the alpha. Aurora was ten times stronger than her brother, who had been given the position. There was an air of innocence and naivety that surrounded Jasmine. Aurora was afraid it would attract the most debase of predators.

The dangers of being a human mate to a lone Alpha. How Jasmine could be used against her, Aurora shuddered at the thought. It was probably her only regret in leaving her pack, that Jasmine didn’t have the protection a pack could give but abandoning the prejudice; the gossiping; the dissent; and the constant disrespect made being a lone wolf worth it.

Aurora had experienced criticism growing up. She was stronger than even her father, the current Alpha, and everybody knew it but she was a female. When she was aggressive it was because she was “An emotional woman” but any male with the same behaviour was “A dominant male”. She had to fight against those ideas her whole life. Had to feign to be the caring women she was supposed to be while still asserting her dominance. It was grueling. That same treatment probably being the reason why she never bothered to associate herself with any man. She had been attracted to both men and women for as long as she could remember but, even before Jasmine, she shacked up with only women. Men were too domineering for her taste.

Aurora sniffed the pine scented air. Close. She was getting so close to a reunion three weeks in the making. She imagined Jasmine’s ample bosom and the curve of her hips. She imagined her long brown her and her deep chocolate eyes. The skin on her abdomen, which reminded her of creme. Jasmine’s creme. The thought of getting a taste of it once more spurred Aurora further

. I am going to see her mate. I am going to see her mate.

It was all she thought of for the rest of the way

Jasmine had finished her meal and called for the waitress so she could pay. Jasmine considered dining and dashing but, the women was a powerful wolf, she could catch her even in her human form.

The man next to her had been having small casual conversation with the waitress. No sign of his Alpha status. He just seemed like a normal man. He wasn’t aggressive. He was very respectful and kind. Something Jasmine didn’t expect from any wolf male. Jasmine did not speak to him. Only picked up on how he spoke to his beta and the cook, who jasmine assumed was also a wolf.

When the waitress approached Jasmine, she passed her credit card. The card had Jasmine’s real name. Jasmine Ellise. A part of her feared and regretted handing over her name. She knew it was on the directory all the wolf’s shared. That as a mate to a lone wolf she was trespassing onto her land. She had to remind herself that they had no reason to check. She was just a human. She wasn’t drawing attention. She repeated it to herself over and over.

Every moment the waitress took to process her card felt agonizingly slow. When she finally handed it back Jasmine fled the diner but unfortunately, the alpha followed. He swaggered behind in a swift speed. “We don’t see many new people around here.” His voice was deep and sultry. It sent a shiver down her spine and to her toes.

“I’m just passing through.” Jasmine replied bluntly. He stood still, taken aback by her tone for a moment. He shook off the feeling and sauntered toward an unwavering Jasmine.

“For how long?” He asked. He was beside her now. His presence loomed over her but she made an extra effort not to show it.

“Until my boyfriend meets me here and then we are leaving. Immediately.” Jasmine replied sharply. Jasmine opted to pretend she had a male partner because she found that it was often wrongly assumed that a males claim was more threatening than females.

A low growl emanated from his mouth. It should have scared her but she felt relieved. Finally, a sign confirming what she knew to be true. “I’ll give you a tour around town.” he said.

“I’m fine.” Jasmine held up her hand as she declined. She looked down and stuffed her hands in her pockets. Jasmine didn’t want to make eye contact with him. His stare was dominating yet alluring. It weakened her resolve to stay away from him.

The alpha tilted his head. “Are you sure? This time has rich history.”

“I am. My boyfriend could arrive any minute and I want to be in my hotel room packed and ready to leave when he arrives.” Jasmine replied. James let out a low grunt than tried to hide it with a cough. Jasmine peered up at his face. His eyebrows furrowed and his lips tilted into a frown.

“If your boy has cell phone I am sure he could call you if need be.” He said. Jasmine quickened her walking pace. This alpha wasn’t going to leave her alone.

Jasmine had arrived at the motel. Her red mustang was the only thing in the parking lot. She noticed the Alpha eyeing it curiously. Then looking back at her. “Fine, just let me change first.” She opened the side door into the building. The male made a move to follow her but she told him to wait outside.

When she arrived in her room she unpacked a box full of tools gifted to her by her mate. She took out a thick silver rod, in full length it was six inches long but it was split in the middle. Jasmine folded the rod in half and shoved it into her pocket.

Just a precaution

. She told herself.

As James waited outside he dialed up his second, Briannon. Briannon was a strong, kind, and patient male. He quickly explained the situation and slipped out the note his sister passed to him on the wait out of the diner. “Jasmine Ellise” was scribbled onto it. He gave the name to his second along with a handful of physical descriptors.

“Anything else?” Briannon asked.

“She has a boyfriend.” James replied flatley. The words felt like poison on his tongue. Briannon gave him an oof in response. He knew he couldn’t just approach the women and tell her werewolves were real and she was the lifemate the goddess had chosen for him. She was abrupt and slightly rude but he got gentle vibes from her. Something inside told him that she was just trying to escape. He didn’t know why. He was holding back. Trying to make her feel safe. “Find me as much as you can.” James stated, then hung up the phone.

Just as he did she stepped out through the door. She gave him a small and weary smile but he still found it stunning. He held out his hand for her but she just walked passed him. “Let’s get this on then.” she stated.

Awkward. That is how this felt. This wolf, who Jasmine has identified as James Leoness, babbled on about the town and its history as they walked. He asked her a few invasive questions along the way and she gave him silence in return. He would just smile and continue his babbling. So un-Alpha like Jasmine thought. His stature was as threatening as a bear in his human form but his personality was that of a nervous teenage boy. Jasmine had never made anyone this fidgety. It made her feel bad for her behaviour but her fear of him was still good enough encouragement to keep it on.

He was babbling about a famous chef who had worked at the diner in his youth when they passed it. A large statue of a growling wolf. The pedestal only had two words on it. In large letters it was written “The Defender.” She knew this was pack territory but she had never seen such a display. She had learned that packs did their best to stay hidden. Erasing any attention they might get from the locals but she could tell by the wolf’s eyes and human emotion in them that this was a werewolf.

“This statue was put up a hundred years ago.” James stood beside her. She looked up at him. He had his hands in his pockets, he leaned his back to look up at the statue, and had a prideful grin plastered on his face. This statue was James. Jasmine knew it. Some soft voice deep within her was whispering it in her head. And as she stared at the statue more that voice kept echoing it.

James noticed a change in Jasmine the moment they reached the statue. She was in awe. He couldn’t help but to be pleased. It was a sign to him that she would not run from him when he showed her his truth. “The statue was put up a hundred years ago.” He said from beside her. She turned to him almost startled as if he took her out of a trance. She looked up at him with the same awe as the statue. “She knows.” His wolf said to him in a low grumble. His wolf, unlike him, did not want to wait. He was ready to pounce and claim her since the moment he knew they were alone in that parking lot.

“Do you believe in werewolves?” He asked her.

“No.” Her reply was quick and sharp but then again so was everything she said to him. Jame’s phone began to ring. It was Briannon. James declined the call. She was talking to him and he didn’t want any halt to the conversation. Briannon just called back again. James put his phone on silent.

“Maybe it’s important.” Jasmine told him.

James shook his head. “I wouldn’t want to be rude.” He could feel the phone vibrating in his pants.

“It’s fine.” Jasmine said. He only shook his head again. “Really just answer it.”

James turned to her. “Actually I want to talk to you about something. I know this is fast-” James made a move to grab her arm. Then panic took over her eyes. Quicker than he could anticipate she pulled out a silver rod and stuck it flat on his chest. He didn’t know how but it just stayed their. Agony ripped through him and James fell to the ground.

He looked up to her. His mate. His downfall. She wasn’t smirking down at him like a would be attacker would do. Instead, Jasmine looked down at him in horror and guilt. “I’m sorry.” she whispered before turning and jutting out in a sprint.

His phone hummed once again and he after a few moments he was able to muster the energy to pull it out and bring it to his ear. “What!” James shouted to his second.

“That girl. Your mate. She’s on the directory. She knows about the wolves.” Briannon said. James cursed under his breath.

“What..is...she?” he asked.

“A human and according to the directory she is already mated.” As the last word was said James let out a fierce growl. “And guess this, it is to a female.”
