Alpha's Request
I walked quietly along my normal path home through the park, observing the usual people. Today there was a new man with a beautiful Cane Corso sitting on the bench on my path.
I smiled shyly at the dog and whispered, "Hello beautiful puppy." Before glancing up at the man as I passed. He smiled easily at me with his dark salt and pepper hair and short beard framing and handsome face and square jaw.
His hazel eyes seemed full of humor as our eyes met and I blushed and quickly moved on hearing him chuckle behind me. I rushed home, my heart pounding from the brief glance with the handsome man.
I let myself in and was greeted by my little white and black mix dog, Vox. "Hey buddy, how was the house while I was gone?" he barked happily then cuddled into my arms as I held him.
I pushed up my glasses and walked into the bathroom and set Vox on the counter while I took off my eye makeup and my lip gloss. I looked at myself and sighed. There was no way that handsome man noticed me.
I was short, only 5 feet tall, and had mousey brown hair that stood in waves to my shoulders. I wore glasses and had crooked teeth and brown eyes, and I was definitely curvy to be nice. "Just forget it Lana." I said as I turned from the mirror.
I was walking home from work and there he was again with that big gorgeous dog and again I whispered to the dog.
"Hey gorgeous." I said and the man laughed.
"You can call him Valentino." Said the man and I gasped and immediately apologized.
"I'm so sorry, I know I'm not meant to talk to other people's dogs and things but sometimes I can't help myself." I blurted and he laughed harder.
"You're not in trouble, I actually think it's rather cute. Talking to the dogs as you pass. Shows you prefer them over people." He said and I blushed at the truth of it.
"Hey I'm a dog person myself, would you like to exchange numbers maybe text sometime?" He asked and I gaped at him.
He smirked and grabbed my phone and put himself in as Ryder (Valentino's dad) and handed it back. "Don't worry I got your number" he said and typed it in his phone then raised an eyebrow for my name.
"Lana." I said timidly and he smiled, typing it into his phone and sending me a quick text. My phone buzzed and he had sent a winking face, I blushed again.
"I need to get home to my dog, I'll see you later." I whispered and rushed away, my heart pounding again.
Ryder called me that night to chat about Valentino and he asked me about Vox. We talked almost entirely about dogs, then he asked, "Would you go to dinner with me tomorrow? Does that seem fast? I just really want to get to know you."
I giggled on the phone, "I'd Like to go on a date with you Ryder. Will you pick me up? I don't have a car." I asked, a little nervous.
"Of course, I'll even pay for dinner. I know the kids don't do that now but I'm old fashioned." He said and I laughed.
"Ryder, how old are you?" I asked hoping he would say something practical like 35, since I was only 20.
"Almost 40." He answered and I swallowed hard. There was a huge age gap between us, almost 20 years.
"You look really good for your age." I said and he laughed loudly.
"I have my secrets. How about we talk over them during dinner?" He asked and I finally laughed.
"Okay let's have dinner tomorrow night, my address is 3054 Wolf Spring, Wolfspring Apartments Number 206." I told him
"What time do you want me to get you?" He asked and I thought for a moment.
"How about 6 pm that will give me time to get out of work clothes and have a shower." I told him and he agreed before we said goodnight and hung up.
Ryder wasn't at his usual bench the next day, I assumed he must be at home getting ready for our date. 'I wonder what I should wear.' I thought absently as I approached my apartment.
I walked into my apartment to a happy Vox, I loved the little dog some before rushing to get ready for my date. I hopped in the shower and washed and shaved before standing in front of my closet absently.
I wasn't the biggest fan of dresses, so I only had a few. I picked out a sunflower covered sun dress and some cute tennis shoes and went with that. I hoped it would be cute enough.
I styled my hair and was just finishing my makeup when the doorbell rang. I squealed and rushed to the door to find Ryder dressed in a dress shirt and tight jeans.
"Wow, you look stunning." He said and reached out, taking my hand and kissing my knuckles. I blushed and did a little curtsy.
"Why thank you, you look pretty good yourself." I said and he smirked, pulling me gently from the apartment as soon as I had my purse.
"Let's go, I can't wait to take you out and show you off." Ryder said and made me blush more.
We went out to a wonderful restaurant and had a great time, he was charming and courteous. Opening doors for me and pulling out my chair. He let me drink as much as I wanted and I got a bit tipsy by the time he took me home.
"There is something important you need to know about me. I'm Wolfborn, a werewolf." he said and I looked at him in surprise. I knew there was a pack living nearby but didn't see many of them around.
I placed a hand on his thigh, maybe a little higher than necessary. "That's okay Ryder, I still like you." I said with a slow smile, my eyes slightly glazed.
