It had been a long day for Jessen, she had spent hours in the fields, harvesting food for her family, planting new food and going about her daily routine. Herself and her people were situated on a small island just off the coast of Europe, an island untouched by the outside world. She would often sit by the coast and watch as foreign ships and trade vessels passed by the tiny island, as if they never knew it existed at all, or perhaps nobody had ever found the island worth investigating. Regardless, Jessen was happy and content with what she had.
She awoke the next day, beginning her routine just as she had done countless times before, rising from her bed just before the Sun had came up. Her village was situated on the coast of the island, so she had a bird's eye view of the sea. Just as she had always done, she walked to the coast and looked out at the sea, only this time she saw not an empty ocean, but a sea of ships. These ships were unlike any she had ever seen before, and they were getting closer, moving at speeds she had never seen before. Within minutes the ships were beached on the coast of the island. She counted 20 ships and just as soon as she had finished counting, several very large men jumped off the lead ship, they were carrying axes and shields.
These men were larger than any man in her own tribe. She ran home to warn her family and all the others of her village. Her village was peaceful, they knew not what war was. They possessed no weapons or combat abilities. The leader of her village panicked and ran off, leaving the others to fend for themselves. The Vikings that had landed took little time in making there way to her village. Jessen was no coward and despite the rest of her people's unwillingness to speak to these foreigners, Jessen decided she would. She approached whom she had assumed was the leader of this foreign tribe. He was large, very large. His arms were nearly as big as her waist and she trembled before him. Jessen however, found the courage to speak but after only getting a few words into her speech, the Viking leader took her by the hair and told her to remain silent. She had no idea they spoke the same language as her people. Jessen realized that in the arms of a man so large, a man capable of breaking her it would be best to do as she was instructed and remain silent. The Viking, with his hand still wrapped firmly around Jessen's hair, ordered his fellow Vikings to raid the village and take anything of value. Within minutes the village was raised to the ground and Jessen had nothing left. The Vikings made there way back to the ship's and along with them, they took Jessen.
