Louisa knew she should not be wandering the castle alone, and certainly not dressed like this and at this hour, but she had no choice. She had heard the guards walking past her charters talking about her father and she had had no choice but to follow them. Unfortunately, she had lost them before long, and now she was huddled in the empty hallway unsure of what to do. She better return to her rooms.
She turned, but before she could make her way she was startled when she heard footsteps approaching. she could not be found here, not in this state. she quickly looked around the familiar hallway for a place in which she could hide. her eyes fell upon the door to a quarter she knew had been uninhabited for years. quickly she snuck inside, leaning against the door as she closed it behind her, letting out a breath she had not known she'd been keeping. her solace however was short lived as when her eyes fell upon the room it was lit by a fire and
very
much inhabited.
She quickly scanned the room, taking in the sight before her. The quarter was slightly smaller than her own, consisting of a small seating area with a fireplace to the right of the door, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers to the left, on the wall across from the door stood a large four poster bed with rumpled sheets. As her eyes continued to survey the room she froze when her eyes finally fell on the desk area to the right of the bed and her eyes met the cold and somewhat surprised eyes of the tall broad man sitting there. He was only illuminated by the fireplace and the single candle on his desk, yet she recognised him to be Lord Farley instantly.
-
Lord Farley took in the sight before him. He had been catching up on his correspondence when he had been alerted to the sound of the door to his chambers opening and quickly closing again. He had expected it to be one of the other Lords coming for a drink or maybe one of the housemaidens he sometimes shared his bed with returning for seconds, but instead he was surprised to see Miss Becker Becker leaning against the door letting out a deep breath. Her eyes were closed for a minute and Lord Farley took this chance to survey the young girl that had suddenly appeared in his chambers.
She was wearing nothing but a simple dressing gown, tied tightly around her waist. Her hair was down, falling to just below her breasts in loose curls. On her feet were nothing but thin woollen socks. He looked wholly indecent in the soft flickering light of the fireplace. He had never seen Miss Becker in anything other than the stiff costumes and intricate hairdos that the daughters of highborn Lords residing in the castle wore to signal their position.
Lord Farley saw the minute Miss Becker opened her eyes and saw that she was not alone in the room. She had probably thought the chamber was uninhabited like it had been for years. The only reason Lord Farley was even here was because his personal quarters on the other side of the castle were currently being renovated. He had only called this chamber his for a few days, and few in the castle were aware of the temporary change.
"Miss Louisa Becker, what can I do for you?" Lord Farley asked as he stood. His eyes lingered at the frame in front of him. Miss Becker looked at him with wide eyes. It took a moment before she composed herself enough to manage an answer.
"Lord Farley, I'm so sorry for the intrusion." She said in a small voice as her eyes fell to the floor. She looked incredibly uncomfortable. For some reason this amused Lord Farley immensely. He took a few steps towards her, and she shifted uncomfortably. Lord Farley's eyes fell once again to her feet and the thin woollen socks, her feet must be freezing on the cold stone floor. Why was she not wearing proper footwear, she must have left her own chambers in a hurry.
"And whom are you hiding from?" Lord Farley asked with a smirk as he took a few more steps towards the young lady, closing the distance between them until he was only a few paces away from her.
"I... I'm not... what would you think..." Miss Becker spluttered as her face turned red. She had clearly been doing something she was not supposed to, and Lord Farley was not mad that it was his chamber she had sought refuge in to avoid being caught.
"Well, if you did not slip into my chamber to seek sanctuary," he said and let his eyes once again roam over her form, and what a nice form it was. The dressing gown amply showed off her womanly curves and the soft skin on the top of her breast was exposed in the soft light, "Then you must be here to see me."
-
Louisa felt her breath catch in her throat as she felt Lord Farley's eyes come to a rest on the exposed skin above her breasts. She tugged the dressing gown closed as she felt her face flush even more. A proper unmarried lady should never find herself in this situation, she was alone with a Lord without a chaperone and on top of that she was exceptionally indecent in her dressing gown and bare feet. Lord Farley's was still looking at her with a predatory gleam in his eyes. It occurred to her that he was waiting for her to answer.
"My Lord, I should leave, it's not proper for me to be here, do excuse me!" she said quickly and turned towards the door, but before she could open it more than a few centimetres a hand fell on the door and pushed it closed. She turned with a gasp as she saw that Lord Farley was now standing not even a pace in front of her his hand firmly on the door behind her. His eyes were staring intently down on her, his lips were slightly parted, and she could feel his breath on her neck.
Lord Farley had always frightened Louisa a little. He was one of the higher Lords on the king's court and he had quite a reputation. He was known to have a bit of a temper and did not like being opposed, and had it not been for his charm, devilishly good looks, and most important his favour with the king, he would probably have been an unpopular figure in the castle. Instead, he was a respected member of the king's advisors, wanted and feared in equal measures.
As she was staring up into Lord Farley's cold eyes, she understood why he was both beloved and feared. His face was pleasantly symmetrical with sharp features and a strong jaw. His eyes looked at her with an intensity that made her squirm.
"I don't think that's a wise idea." Lord Farley said in a low voice. Louisa felt herself tremble under his gaze. "What if someone were to see you escaping my chamber at this time of night, it would cause quite the scandal."
Louisa didn't know what to say, he was right of course, but still, she could not stay here.
"Perhaps, you my Lord, could take a peek outside the door to see if the hallway is deserted for me?" Louisa suggested, unable to hide the quiver in her voice.
"Of course, Miss, why don't you step away from the door and I'll take a look." Lord Farley replied with a crooked smile on his face. He took a step back, allowing Louisa to take a few steps into the room away from the door. To her surprise however, Lord Farley didn't open the door, instead he locked the door, removing the key and putting it in the inner pocket of his jacket. Louisa's breath caught in her throat as Lord Farley turned slowly towards her with a predatory look in his eyes
