A beautiful sunny day and a vanilla ice cream cone. This day couldn't possibly get any better. Could it?
Mina happily hummed a tune to herself as she asked herself the question, lapping at the ice cream cone in her hand. Her red slippered feet clicked against the sidewalk as she skipped away. Nope. This day is just too perfect.
Mina couldn't help but treat herself from a big score last week. Who would have thought that a popular magazine company would be interested in this town? Then again, who would have guessed said company would be interested in her modeling? Certainly, not her. Models were always incredibly sexy, making everyone do a double-take by just a few sways of their hips. Mina was always jealous. Every one of those girls looked amazing. Sun-kissed skin, radiant hair, slim yet curvy figures. She always dreamed of being one of them. But ever since the recruiter came to her last week, that dream was about to become a reality.
"If I only had the guts to ask him out too," she sighed. Her mind began to wildly dream, thinking of the handsome brunette from before approaching her in a future shoot, posing for the hundreds of cameras flashing around her. She giggled as her fantasy slowly moved down to the gutter.
Maybe there is a way to make this day better. Maybe
, Mina thought.
The happy, petite blonde continued her path, licking the vanilla cream off her fingers. "This is going to be great!" She quietly cheered, trying to contain her excitement as she looked around, searching, keeping a lookout for where her very first shoot will be. A modeling gig that's within walking distance to the college; what more could she ask for? She slipped her hand into her pocket and produced the address on a slip of paper. "Let's see here. Charles Street, house number...291!"
Her eyes locked on to the grand, lavish building, right at the endpoint of a three-way. Bricks made up the walls. White columns stood in front of the doorway, acting like sturdy guards to the entrance. On one of the pillars was a red sign that hung high for all to see. "Closed for reservation," was written in bold black lettering.
Mina blinked at her destination, looking back at her piece of paper afterward. "The library?" She questioned out loud, confused. She was meeting with her new boss at the library? It seemed like a strange place to meet up for a photo shoot. She glanced at the sign again as she walked towards it out of curiosity, looking around. After several moments, she gasped in a sudden epiphany. "I bet my first shoot is being set up inside," Mina chirped. Her smiled returned as she finished the rest of her cone, scaling the staircase leading up to the door. Excitement brimmed inside her, adding more hop to her step. She couldn'twait a single moment later. Just what did they have in store for her? Was she supposed to be a sexy librarian? A cute and innocent nerd? The mystery was killing her! If she didn't find out soon, Mina was going to lose it.
At the top of the stairs rests Mahogany double doors, closed shut and lined with gold. The blonde slowed her pace and moved towards them with cautioun, her heart pattering against her chest. Excitement and anxiety built up and swelled up inside her.
Do I look okay? Should I just get another job? I can get something else to pay for college.
More thoughts swam around in Mina's mind like buzzing bees. Taking a deep breath, she steeled her resolve. "Calm down, Mina," She told herself. "Just smile and be yourself."
She gave the door a gentle tug, causing it to screech open. Inside were shelves upon shelves of books, all perfectly lined up and organized. Right in front of her rested a large reception desk, cleared off and devoid of any clutter. Mina stepped inside, letting her curiosity guide her. The floor creaked against her slippers, cutting through the silence. Not a single soul moved about the quiet area that she could see.
The library was the biggest hang out spot for all the college students. Everyone went here to study, research, or just to hang out. So many sleepless nights were spent here. Memories bubbled in her mind, reminiscing on all the tests she had to prepare for. This place was a lifesaver. And the fact that this company could pay to rent it out for a day must mean they were big. But now the question was, where in the world were they?
"Hello?" Mina called out. Her voice echoed throughout the halls and rows, reaching through the lifeless corridors. Her blue eyes searched around for anything. No lights? No cameras? No sceneries? "Is anyone here?" Still no reply back. Uncertainty crept up the back of her spine.
Did I miss the meeting? I could have sworn I was on time.
Suddenly, footsteps sounded off at a distance, grabbing Mina's attention. Slowly, the sound grew louder and louder, approaching the blonde at a steady pace. Then black heels stepped from the hallway entrance. A woman in her thirties appeared from the passageway and took notice of Mina. Long frail legs were loosely bundled in a skirt. Her vest and button-down shirt cradled her breasts under her suit jacket. A concise bun tamed her brown hair. She epitomized professionalism. Despite trying desperately to contain her excitement, this woman intimidated her. Maybe she should have dressed a bit differently?
Adjusting her glasses, the mature woman walked towards Mina. A Stern gaze fell upon her. "You're late," she said curtly, punctual. Mina blinked at the woman before she double-checked the time on her phone.
"wasn't the meeting suppose to be at eleven?"
"yes," the mature woman spoke again. "and it's five minutes past eleven."
"I-I'm so sorry, ma'am," she replied. "I must have lost track of time. I didn't know I was late for the shoot." She frowned, deeply ashamed of herself. How could she be so stupid for letting time slip by so easily? If she knew she would be this late, she wouldn't have stopped to get ice cream.
The woman rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Never mind the excuses," she said. "At least you had the decency to show up. And as soon as you sign the contract, we can begin."
Mina nodded. "Right," she confirmed, digging in her purse for a moment. She searched inside the pocket before grabbing hold of a bundle of papers and shoving them into the woman's face. "Here you are. They're all signed and dated, just as you asked," Mina chirped happily.
