Things were going great for Sabrina recently, at twenty-seven years old her career was panning out well. She had been with the same catalogue company for six-years. She started in the warehouse doing order picking and had worked her way up to warehouse manager. She was in-line for another promotion, it hadn't been confirmed yet but on the grape vine she heard she was first choice for a regional manager role.
That would mean a nice pay rise for her which would help with the costs for her up-coming wedding. She would be marrying her boyfriend now fiancé after being together for four years in just a few months' time. They met through mutual friends and instantly fell for each other, he was a few years older and worked at a local museum, he was into history, so it was an ideal job for him.
They had sorted almost everything except the honeymoon. They wanted to go to Mexico, it was her fiancés dream to see the Mayan ruins, but this was just out of their price range. With the promotion though she was hoping to be able to surprise him with it. The sun, beaches and lagoons held an appeal for her also, so it would be perfect for both.
Sabrina is five foot exact, she's a brunette but has long dyed blonde hair which she usually styles in a bouncy bob. She has blue alluring eyes that hold your thoughts as you stare into them, thin bright pink lips and a pert cute nose. She's got the figure of a ballerina, long legs medium torso, pert 32C breasts, a slim waist and cute pert bottom. She definitely caught the eye of most men.
She grew up on a council estate, both her parents working class and scraping by on minimum wages. She loved her family and knew they did their best, but she vowed never to be in a similar situation She always wanted to leave the estate behind and build a better life, possibly have kids herself one day and give them the childhood she had wanted.
When she first started working it was male dominated, and due to her slender frame, no-one expected her to last. It wasn't where you would expect to find a, what was presumed delicate and soft young woman. She quickly settled in though and would give the guys banter, soon she was treated as one of the lads.
To get to where she was though, she had used skill and determination. There were jokes made often about her sleeping her way up the ladder. These claims are usual for successful pretty women especially in this type of work environment. Sabrina though had proved her worth by being the best at the jobs she did, always punctual and never making mistakes, desperate to stay away from her past.
Over the years though she had started to become more career driven and didn't socialise with the other workers, as she moved up the ladder. She started to become more distant, having little patience for errors and being strict in easily handing out warnings or even sacking someone. She had gone from a fun friendly one of the lads type, to a bitch boss everyone avoided. The guys in the warehouse though hoped she would get the promotion as she would be there less.
It was a Friday morning as she came into work, she headed straight to her desk to start looking through the order quantities for the day and check on staff attendance amongst her other duties. It was approaching lunch time when she first got wind of an issue from her regional manager Mike. He made her aware there was twenty-four thousand pounds worth of stock missing, and it was in one of his warehouses.
Sabrina ran a tight ship; she had no concerns it would be her warehouse. Yes, she had some guys who would slack a little and some who might not be the brightest, but they were all good honest workers.
Another hour passed and she was contacted again by Mike, this time she was made aware it was her warehouse. He told her "This doesn't look good Sabrina, especially with the promotion decision due to be announced soon."
"Are you sure there's not been a mistake, I just can't see something like that happening here."
"Well, there's going to be a full review of your stock and record keeping tomorrow," he told her.
"That's not necessary, I'll get a full check done tonight," she told him still confident this was all just an error, an embarrassing error though as this could ruin her reputation.
"Do you understand the seriousness of this?" asked Mike.
"Of course, I could miss out on the promotion," she replied.
"That's the least of your concerns, if one of your guys has misplaced it then it's a simple error and they'll get a warning, if one of them has stolen it they'll be facing criminal proceedings."
"That's fair enough," she replied.
"I must tell you though, if it's found to be you, that's a warning on your record so no promotion and possible criminal proceedings," he told her with caution.
"You can't think this was me!" she replied worriedly.
"Personally, I don't but we can't rule anything or anyone out, I suggest you get your house in order, and I'll go through everything tomorrow when I arrive."
Sabrina was panicked and angry, she would have to find out what happened. She received an email with information on what had gone missing. The stock missing was twenty gaming laptops, her mind instantly went to theft. They had arrived the week before, she checked who was in that day that would have access to them and brought them into her office one at a time.
There were four members of staff that were now prime suspects in her eyes, she called the first one in, that was James. James was thirty-two and had worked at the warehouse for five years, as a fork-lift driver he would have moved the items on the day, he protested his innocence. He didn't like her tactics as felt like he was being accused rather than asked.
Next in was Mo, he'd been with the company twelve years as an order picker and was great at his job. He still remembered when Sabrina started and had seen her career progress up close. At forty-eight he just liked the simple life of coming in doing his job and going home stress free. Again, he felt he was being accused but denied all knowledge of any missing items.
Next was Kasper, a 19-year-old Danish student who had been with the company less than a year, he only worked part time as an order picker. He was taken aback by the questions and the tone they were asked in. He pleaded his innocence and confirmed how much he would lose as he'd paid a lot to go to university here.
The final employee was Brandon, also a younger worker he was twenty years old. He was in on that day as a dispatcher, the final check before anything leaves the warehouse. Although only twenty he had been with the company three years as it was his first job after leaving school. He found it offensive the way he was having the finger pointed at him. He also pleaded his innocence, but this was not to Sabrinas liking as she was now lost.
There were other employees in that day, but none would have been near the part of the warehouse where these were stored. It was getting closer to the end of the working day, and she was no closer to finding answers.
Mike called her again, "Do you have any good news, this is not going over well with the higher ups?" he asked her.
"Sorry Mike, I've not gotten anywhere, I've spoken to the staff, and no one knows anything," she replied.
"This is not good, I was on a call with senior management and your name was mentioned as a possibility to replace me, they then said it would be unlikely if this wasn't brought to a satisfactory conclusion."
"Mike, I don't know what else to do, I'll start the stock take tonight and get everything ready for your visit tomorrow."
"I would be getting some of the guys to help, one of them has done something, offer to get them a takeaway and over time, that usually works when we have inspections."
"Thanks, I'll try it, hopefully they'll take it."
"Even if only one or two do it it'll help, see how you get on. It's imperative you have answers for me by tomorrow though, I'd hate to see your career ruined over this."
"Thanks for the advice Mike, I'll make sure we get to the bottom of it asap."
With that conversation over Sabrina headed out to seek help to complete the stock take.
Sabrina gathered the four who were questioned as she knew they would want first refusal and a chance to clear their names. "Look guys I'll get Pizza in and pay overtime if you help me do the stock take tonight."
Mo was first to respond, "after the way you spoke to us earlier, you'll be lucky."
Jamed followed up, "It wasn't cool coming after us like that, we're innocent here and you're looking for a scape goat."
"I was trying to find out who it was, of course I believe you all, I'm sure this is just a genuine mistake," she replied, the guys didn't look convinced. She wasn't a very good liar so instead she said, "Double time and Pizza and you can prove me wrong,"
Brandon and Kasper instantly accepted; they were already going to take the previous offer. James and Mo talked for a moment but then agreed as they also wanted to make sure nobody was taking the blame unnecessarily and the real culprit was found. The five of them should be enough to get the whole warehouse checked and go through the records for that day and the next.
Once the working day finished at six and everyone had left, the five met up. Sabrina instructed them where to go and gave them tablets and a walkie talkie each to document the stock and keep in touch as no mobile phones were allowed in the warehouse. The warehouse was large, so they were split up and sent off individually.
After a couple of hours, the pizza arrived so they all stopped and had a catch up together. The guys were having a laugh, but Sabrina looked nervous. "Do you lot realise just how serious this?" she quizzed them.
As the voice of seniority Mo replied, "we're more than halfway through and nothings shown up yet, Brandon has gone through the dispatches for the day and everything that went out tallied up."
"Someone's going to lose a job over this, I'm getting married and have plans I thought I'd be getting a pay rise not a sacking," she said starting to cry.
"Look Sabrina, the higher ups know how good you are at the job, surely they won't blame you," Mo replied trying to calm her.
James then added, "besides they'll probably show up soon. Let's get back to it then."
They quickly finished the pizza and headed back to their designated sections, to continue the long task of going through everything. Similar products would bring hope but not joy as they checked out. It was now past nine in the evening and Sabrina was almost ready to give up when Brandon came on the walkie and told her to come over to his station.
She headed straight to him; he was stood next to the dispatch office. "What is it Brandon?" she asked.
"I think I've found something," he said.
"What, come on tell me."
"Well, this shipment of toy computers went out on the day this all happened."
"Yes, it went to an online trader in France. I remember that one, as we don't do many internationals from here," she replied still wondering what he had found.
"That's just it, those kid's computers are still over on Aisle 33 position 7."
"No, I remember authorising them out myself when I was covering your break, I remember the boxes had cartoons and said they were games." She started to sound a little worried.
