My Husband Fucked Me Over, Ch 23
I See Gina Weege in the Jail
Edgar, Beth, Joshua, Pen and I discussed the plan in more detail, fine tuning different aspects of it, the others listening. Friday evening, our men were back on the ship. After supper, they heard the same recordings as we'd heard. Bill was fit to be tied. I'd never seen the man so angry, not even when he was planning on hurting Ransom, or when he was pissed at Bonnie. She might have seen more of the Bill I saw now, but I never had. Generally, everyone was distraught. We discussed the plan that I'd come up with. Becky was clutching my hand as she listened.
It generally met with a lukewarm reception, with the men mostly in disagreement. They didn't want us to endanger ourselves. It was as I expected.
"Look, those killers took the contract and they may not leave until they've honored the terms. We don't know who they are, what they look like or anything else about them except that they're a man and a woman team," I said. "We can't stay on Joshua's ship for the rest of our lives avoiding them. I'm going to be delivering another child in a couple of months. We have to draw them out and end the threat and ensure Gina Weege can't hire anyone else. We can take care of the first bit at the jail, making sure Weege won't want to suffer the consequences she faces if she hires anyone else. That leaves the team looking for us now. We need to end this, permanently."
"I get that," Bill said, "but you've both got children and are both pregnant again."
"What do you suggest?" I asked. "Living in hiding forever, giving up dreams of your own company, never knowing if one day someone's going to show up at your door and kill everyone in your house?"
"She's right, Bill," Bonnie said. "I feel like I'm responsible for endangering Billy, you, my unborn child, and me. It's my fault, and I have to do something to end it. I've been thinking a lot about this. We have certain advantages now that we won't ever have again. We've got a whole bunch of people our killers know nothing about who will have our backs. This is the best time, and the best place to deal with it. I've got more mobility than I'm going to have any time for the next seven months. We've trained for this and continue to train for this. This is the best time to deal with it."
"I don't want to lose you," Bill said.
"The odds of you losing me are the best they're going to get until the threat is gone. It's my own damn fault I'm in this mess. I have to do my part to get us out of it."
"Can you at least not go out at the same time so you both don't get killed at once?" Bill asked.
"We know it's a two person, male/female team," Edgar said, "looking to kill both of them. If they're not both targets, we may not get both at the same time. Believe me, they'll be as safe as we can make them, and this opportunity won't exist forever."
"We've all practiced situational awareness, and we'll all be armed, in addition to having Joshua's crew looking after us as well as the Acme Security guys. Our assassins don't know about Joshua's guys. Don't know what they look like or how good they are," I said. "Plus, we'll have Marcia Holmgren backing us up, and even we won't know what she looks like, so we can't give her away. This is the best we can hope for now. We'll have the best special forces minds in the business looking after us."
"Fuck it all to hell!" Bill said. "I suppose."
"We won't be making a real target of ourselves for at least another eight days. Sure, they'll have their opportunities before then, but only at risk to themselves," I said. "We need to feed them an opportunity so good, they have to take it. That's when we can be sure they're going to get their just desserts. Who knows, we might even get enough information from Gina Weege to hunt them down ahead of time."
"What do we have to do?" Robert said.
"You and the others go back as expected. We know the house is being watched. Let them see you there. Arrange for at least four Acme guys to meet us at our hotel Monday morning. We suspect that the Naples Airport is being watched. They'll see you four have returned, either at the airport or later at the house.
"Pen will stay with our kids on the ship. Edgar, Ethan, Rafael, Buck, Bonnie, Beth, Sahar, Stephanie and I will fly into Page Field in Fort Myers, where four of Smitty's guys will meet us. Beth, Sahar and Joshua's crew will go to their own motel in Fort Myers, out of it for the moment. The four of Smitty's guys will take us to an undisclosed destination in the Naples area to spend the night, some random hotel, two adjoining rooms.
"Very early Monday morning, four Acme guys arranged by Robert, will meet us at the motel, and bring us home, where we'll get on the assassins radar again. All we'll do at the house is pack for an extended stay out of town. Grant, Stephanie and the four Acme guys will provide protection to the sheriff's office in Fort Myers where I'll get the information I need for my mental health, and we'll make our final arrangements to see Weege at the jail on Monday afternoon.
"We'll go from the SO to the jail where we'll meet Sahar and Beth. Sahar and I will have our little chat with Weege, hopefully ending any further attempts on our lives. From the jail, splitting apart again so any watchers don't realize the help we've acquired, we'll head north to the Gainesville-Ocala area, staying in some place randomly chosen by Edgar's team for its defensive capabilities. We'll move several miles every day, making it difficult for the opposition to make any concrete plans. Acme will be providing direct security, with another loose cordon of Smitty's guys, staying in the background. This will continue until my appointment with Doctor Kline. Beth and Sahar will meet us there, if our assassins are still at large. After my appointment is when Bonnie and I will start taking chances.
"After we've finished with Doctor Kline, we'll send the Acme guys home, with only loose coverage by Smitty's guys and close coverage by Grant and Stephanie. That's when Sahar and Marcia Holmgren also join the team, but always at some distance, not with us. We'll start dining out, to create an opportunity for one or both to go after Bonnie in the restroom, as Grant will go with, but remain outside, but Marcia will have preceded her there for her protection, leaving Stephanie with me, which might give the other assassin a shot at me with only Stephanie sitting at my table. Hopefully, he'll take the opportunity, and we'll get them both. There will be more of Smitty's guys nearby, but they'll look dangerous, which is why we're shooting for the women as our primary protection, so they'll underestimate them. That's the plan. It's the best we could come up with, but I think it's a good plan."
"Do you really think it will work?" Bill asked.
"You've never seen Sahar in action, Bill," Edgar said. "I have. No one will see her coming. If you doubt me, take her on down in the gym. You won't last two minutes with her. I've never met this Marcia Holmgren person, but I've checked on her. She's been to some of the dodgiest places in the world and come out unscathed. She'll never look the same two days in a row. They might be two of the best female operatives in the world, but they won't look like bodyguards, they'll look like helpless women or innocent bystanders. I think it's got a great chance of success for that reason. We've still got time to discover more about them and catch them beforehand, but if we have to go with the bait and kill option, it's our best chance."
"I hate this," Bill said.
"We all hate this, Bill," I said. "If I can avoid this, I will, but I don't see another option for us now. We need to end it while we've got all of the pieces together."
In the end, everyone agreed, though no one was happy, except perhaps Sahar. She looked alive, thinking more monsters might be extinguished.
******
The love making that night was frantic between the four of us, except that Becky and Robert pretty much ignored each other, having spent the last week together every night. In particular, they both wanted sex with me and Pen, and we accommodated them.
On Saturday morning, Edgar set up the Hogan's Alley to look like a generic restaurant, and those who'd be involved in the bait and kill operation, spent time working that scenario. There were never more than three possible enemies, but lots of innocent bystanders in the scenario, and you never knew what they'd do, lie down, or leap up running in front of you, and they all looked alike; no uniforms to tell the good from the bad. Everyone but Sahar seemed to shoot some of the bystanders, even the special forces guys. Bill, Robert, and Joshua watched us doing the exercises, but didn't do them themselves. Seeing the way the scenarios unfolded helped ease the minds of our men. In no case did the assassins ever get in a head shot, although several times we were wounded. Innocent bystanders also got shot by the killers. The bystanders were unpredictable for everyone. I hope no one else had to die.
That afternoon, we made the calls we needed to make. Robert made all the arrangements with Acme for the next couple of weeks, leaving off only the hotel names. They'd be called at the last minute on where to pick us up. Joshua ordered rental cars for his crews and made hotel reservations for everyone based upon Edgar's recommendations, so that Robert's name wasn't attached to anything.
While those preparations were being made, with Grant and Stephanie fully involved in the planning, I spent as much time with the children as I could. I'd tell Emma I had to leave her again tomorrow before I left, and that she'd be staying on the ship with Pen where she'd be safe. No point in making her fret before she needed to. I read to them and played games with them. David and Sarah were really good kids as well, bracketing ours in ages, so they pretty much enjoyed the same things.
