It was the summer after Graduation. Being old for my grade I was turning 19 in the coming weeks. As school ended and summer began I saw my friends less and less. Being on the chubby side I never could manage to get a girlfriend like my other friends. The farthest I ever got with a girl was second base. Though I'm sure she was doing it on a dare from her friends giggling around the corner.
Even though I lost touch with most of my friends I had one friend who remained in contact with me. That was my friend Ted Flannegan! Ted was an outstanding student and was a bit overwhelmingly gifted with the ladies. Being a sports student It was only our love for video games that kept us in touch. Ted was muscular and tall while I was short and stout.
I never played sports and preferred to spend my time indoors. Due to this I Rarely had luck with girls and gained a little bit of weight by my senior year. Having only a handful of friends I decided not to have a graduation party. My parents helped me move into a studio apartment the following month in a decent small town.
After school got out Ted and I Started hanging out more than ever due to a new game coming out. I was constantly going over to Ted's house and playing video games with him. I would be lying if I said I wasn't sneaking looks at Ted's mother.
Ted's mother was always dressed to the nines. I always fell into a stupor when she spoke to me, fumbling my words at every turn.Ted's mother had me under a spell, suffice to say when she asked me to mow the family lawn I couldn't say yes fast enough. Over the first two months of summer I managed to make most of my money mowing for the Flannegans as they owned many lots.
I was always rather uncomfortable anytime I dealt with Mr. Flannegan. He was an established business man standing a whopping 6'8. My flannegan owned over 13 vitamin shops around the metro area. Like his son Ted he was very athletic and was built as such. Being in his presence was intimidating even when he was laying back having a beer on his chair.
While the summer was nearing the beginning of the final month. I hadn't thought to even talk to Ted or anyone about college plans, or rather my lack thereof. This all came crashing down when Ted got accepted to A university half way across the country. Over this time I had all but stopped talking to my remaining friends. Ted and his family were all I had left and I was devastated.
Noticing this Ted's mother and father had me out to dinner with Ted. We all discussed the future and what it would hold. Knowing Damn well I wasn't going to be accepted into the same college Ted got a full ride to, I knew my options were limited. His parents eventually came to the subject of my employment. They questioned whether I would remain home and continue working or if I was going off to college in the fall.
I assured Mr. and Mrs. Flannegan I would continue to work for them even after Ted had left for college. In the month that followed I spent every waking hour that I could at Ted's house gaming from sun up till sun down. Stopping only to eat, sleep and mow lawns. Eventually all good things had to come to an end and Ted went off to college.
