"That's bullshit! It was clearly him!" Katrine Vogel argued in frustration, the anger in her voice is evident.
"His alibi checked out. It was confirmed by four other guys who were present at the party." Simon replied.
Katrine sensed remorse, or rather, the sound of someone who has given up in the voice of the senior detective.
"Come on, Simon. Even you can't buy this bullshit! We got him, we got the son of a bitch!" Katrine pleaded even more.
Simon sighed. He knew how youngsters nowadays are impatient. They seek glory, they want to make a name for themselves.
Katrine was a smart woman. She graduated at top of her class and Simon had no doubts that she would reach higher places in a few years. But she was still lacking in experience -- at least for now.
With 3 years left before his retirement, Simon was glad when the new detective was assigned to be under his wing. The younger men of the Force envied his partnership with the beautiful young detective.
Katrine's hot-headedness and impatience are rubbing on Simon. He wanted to pursue this case -- and this case being shelved raised some suspicions.
"Look kid, I know how you feel. We need to let Nestor go for lack of evidence. But I'm on the same page as you. To bring Nestor back we need more solid evidence, but for now, take a break. I'm as frustrated as you in this."
Katrine watched him wear his jacket as he started to leave. He glanced at her, and she noticed a hint of frustration or even anger in Simon's eyes. Katrine sighed in resignation.
She watched Simon go out of the police HQ doors, then she started walking to the Chief's office.
-----------------------
Henrik Anders' stomach growled. It's already ten minutes before five. He started gathering his things when he heard a knock on the door.
He looked into his office's glass door and saw Katrine Vogel. He signaled for her to come in.
"Make it quick, Vogel. I'm starving, and my wife is waiting for me."
"Sir, we cannot let Nestor go. The surveillance video clearly showe--"
Anders cut her off. "Look, Vogel. Nestor's alibi was solid. It wasn't him so he's free to go."
"But--"
"Let it go, Vogel," Anders replied in a loud voice, asserting his authority. "Nestor was cleared, and you are not to harass him, or do something that I would have to clean your mess up. Is that understood?" He looked at Katrine straight in the eye with a stern look on his face.
Katrine said nothing.
"Is that understood, detective Vogel?" He repeated.
"Understood, sir," Katrine replied in resignation.
"You can show yourself out now, Vogel."
He watched Katrine turn around and walk to the door. 'What a troublesome, young lady.' Anders thought to himself.
Over-eager detectives like her give Henrik Anders headaches.
"Why can't she just simply follow orders?" He muttered softly to himself.
He watched the young woman walk to the door. 'Katrine Vogel, a pain in the ass, but a beautiful and curvaceous woman.' Anders thought.
His eyes fixated on her shapely ass as she walked gracefully to the door. He felt an erection growing when he saw the panty lines on her pants.
-------------------
''That lazy, fat bastard!" Katrine growled in anger when she was finally alone in the HQ.
She threw herself on her chair, making it creak as her weight fell on it.
She put her hands on her face and made angry noises.
'Solid alibi?! The person on the surveillance camera was Nestor! She shot that guy point-blank and left as if nothing happened!' Katrine thought.
She sat on her chair for a little longer, then an idea popped into her.
"Fuck Anders. And to hell with Simon. I'll follow Nestor and give them all the evidence they want."
Despite the orders of her superiors, Katrine Vogel gathered her things, started her car, and disobeyed protocol and orders.
--------------------------
The day Nestor was arrested, it was Katrine who found the surveillance camera footage that showed Nestor shooting the bar owner. She got a copy of the video into her phone and sent it to Simon who immediately arrested Nestor.
It was pure luck that Katrine was not present during the arrest and interrogation of Nestor. Nestor doesn't know her and it was this advantage that Katrine used to secretly gather evidence against Nestor despite Anders' and Simon's orders.
When he was questioned, Nestor's alibi was he was attending a business party at the Serenity Hotel and Resort. His itinerary was confiscated by the police and Katrine happened to take a picture of its contents.
She knew that Nestor had another beach party at Serenity again tonight.
'I know where to find the bastard.' She thought to herself as she drove her car past Serenity's gate.
-------------------
Katrine stopped her car and saw a valet approach her. She got out of her car and gave the keys to the valet. She noticed him staring at her with a confused look in his eyes.
She paid him no attention and walked directly to the reception.
The concierge smiled at her when she approached the reception lobby.
"Welcome to Serenity. May I help you?" The plain-looking concierge asked her.
"I'll take a room for the night," Katrine replied.
The concierge looked at her, judging her plain white shirt, and jeans.
"I'm sorry, but Serenity is a members-only hotel." The concierge replied with a smile.
Katrine was irritated by the fake smile. 'Shit. This is bad.' Katrine thought.
She grunted in frustration. It was this, or go home like a dog with her tail between her legs.
'Once I find evidence against Nestor, then I can shove my achievement down Anders' and Simon's throats.' Katrine decided that hesitation will only lead to failure, so she took her badge out of her pocket and showed it to the concierge.
"Look, I'm a detective and I have probable cause that one of your guests is a suspect in a murder case. Just let me in, and there will be no trouble."
The concierge gave a confused look. She paused for a while, then grabbed the telephone.
"Could you wait for a moment please, detective?"
