He couldn't watch the cleaning process. It always stirred a darkness inside him that he knew he shouldn't entertain. Joseph walked the halls as he made his way to the basement to get a bite to eat. The kitchen cook always left a little something for him in the basement kitchen whenever he would miss dinner. Passing the wine room and another room for supplies, he made his way down the long hallway to the open kitchen at the end.
Laid out neatly under a metal pot were a brick of cheese and a loaf of bread. He smiled and said a silent prayer of health for the thoughtful man. Reaching for the plate Joseph looked at his wrinkling hands. They looked older than they should but he didn't mind. He was doing God's work after all. He would be rewarded for his labors in the afterlife. Taking his small meal he made his way back up the hall to see if all was over when he stopped at a strong metal door. The wine room and supplies were on the right wall but this door was on the opposite side of the hall. Joseph knew what was beyond this door and when no one was around he would always stand before it and entertain fleeting images of what could happen beyond it if he were to ever enter. Because of this he always experienced a feeling of dread mixed with loathing and then the darkness. Cock slowly beginning to rise Joseph took a deep disappointed breath and forced himself to continue down the long hallway and up to the stairs.
Entering where the pews are settled Joseph sat himself down to take a bite of his cheese when he a wiry looking man with straw like hair appears seated in the pew in front of him. "Oh My!" His words were of surprise but not fear though he was sure he was alone when he sat down. "I am sorry my child I did not see you there. Have you come in off the road?" The thin man looked over his shoulder with weary eyes and nodded exhaustedly. "Ahh, then here please partake in some of what the cook has left for me this evening. I know it isn't much but please help yourself." Leaning over the man Joseph held the plate out for the visitor with a welcoming smile. The man whispered an exhausted thank you that was almost missed as Joseph informed him that he would get a room ready for him and made his way back down the stairs to retrieve a pillow and some blankets from the supply room.
The man looked at the plate and smirked. Pulling the bread and cheese in half he put the other small portion into a handkerchief as he waited patiently for the sobbing behind the door to stop.
Liluth came crashing through the door, wet and feeling abused when she saw another man in the room from where she entered. Frozen, she watched him unmoving as the nun screamed her anger from the other side. Liluth didn't mind being called a witch right now, last she saw she was dragged here not the other way around.
The man never moved and Liluth slowly wrapped the hood she had taken around herself and made her way to the big door that could lead to her freedom. Her eyes were on him for a bit which had her walking backwards for a moment before turning as she walked. "You are just going to try and run away again? They will catch you foolish elf and when they do your ears will be shaped to look like theirs."
She stopped inches from the handle. Fear of the pain to come kept her grounded to the spot though she wanted to continue. Turning to face the stick like man the door she had run through came bursting open and Liluth ducked behind the pew that was in front of her. Panting heavy she put her hands over her mouth trying to keep the scream down and get her heart to stop pounding. "Now, now madam that is no language to have in this holy place. If you are looking for the naked thing that ran in here moments ago she went that way."
She had wanted to die when she heard the strange man's voice boom through the room outing her. Slowly she ducked under the wooden seat and watched the nuns' shoes. She was pausing in her direction and Liluth could see why. There was a pool of water at her feet. This was where Liluth was standing when she saw the man then there were small foot prints leading away from her facing the wrong way. A moment more and she was sure the nun was going to come and find her but her shoes turned and hobbled awkwardly away. The bite must have been deeper than she first thought. "You going to come out of hiding now or will you wait for them to find you?"
