Wendy, for some reason, found herself looking at the calendar. "Huh. It's already April." She sighed.
She lost track of the date a very long time ago as soon as she started college. Now, piles of notes and books sit atop her table. It's almost summer break and yet she could feel it.
Wendy leaned back on her chair with a heavy sigh. She rubbed at her temples, willing the headache to go away. Her stomach grumbled. "I'm hungry." She muttered under her breath.
Wendy fixed herself some sandwich. She's not in the mood to cook anything fancy so a sandwich will do like it always does.
Her phone vibrated. Her mom, Sylvia, is calling. "Hello mom?"
She was greeted by a series of questions whether she ate, she's taking time for breaks and if she's doing good. What she loved about her mom, she never pressure Wendy to be the best. It's not that she doesn't care. Sylvia simply trusts her daughter. Before she went to college, her parents gave her a long lecture that whatever she does, she must take responsibility of it.
"I'm fine. Thanks. How about you and dad?" She chew on her sandwich, pausing once to gulp some of her orange juice.
Her mother giggled like a teenager being asked about her first boyfriend. Wendy rolled her eyes. "We're good, sweetheart. Better than good."
"Ugh."
Sylvia chuckled. "Oh don't be coy. I've always been easy on you. I wonder why ever you never introduce a boy to us?"
That was true. While some mothers are very strict about their daughter getting a boyfriend and stuff, Wendy's mom actually pushed her to find one. She did have a boyfriend or two but they did not last long enough to be introduced to her parents. They're just.. temporary. What's the point of introducing someone who wouldn't be there the next christmas? "Mom. We've been over this before." She sighed.
"I know. I know. You and your plans. I just wanted you to enjoy your youth." Sylvia says, exasperated. "You're beautiful. How come boys are not flocking about you? I know you're not lacking in that department because I passed on to you my genes perfectly and some of your fathers." She gasp dramatically. "Is it because you're not.. you know. No matter how beautiful you are. If you're lacking the necessary skills in bed then it would be worth--"
"Mom!" Wendy blushed to the roots of her hair. "My god. Please stop. This is so embarrassing."
"I'm just saying." Her mother said matter of factly.
Wendy knows her way in bed. All her ex boyfriends never complained about it, but there's just no spark. In the end, what they do is simply.. sex. Wendy wants something more. She needs what her friends talked about--that toe curling, breath taking orgasm.
It was why she find the need to break up with them. Her exes were happy as soon as they are satisfied, but none of them actually cared if she got hers.
"I plan on visiting. I guess I should change my mind?" She teased, swiftly changing the subject.
As expected, her mother was quick to change her mind. "Don't be like that. It's been quite a long time since I've seen my only daughter."
Wendy rolled her eyes. "Mom. I was there just four months ago during thanksgiving, remember?"
"It would be a good thing for us to have dinner together as a family again. I'll make sure to cook your favorite."
Frowning, "Is Gareth planning to visit too?" She asked.
There was a pause on the other line. "I'm not sure. You know your brother--"
"Step brother."
"--is too busy expanding his business to be visiting us. But he said he would but that he makes no promises."
Huh. Wendy thought about her stepbrother-- the same guy who played pranks on her all throughout her high school years. Gareth has always had that drive for success and now that he's taken over his father's empire, there's no stopping him. He used to be carefree--the easy go lucky type who live to have fun but as soon as he graduated, he changed.
Now, he is starting to be known as a raging bull in business. He gets what he aimed for, closing multi-million deals easily despite the huge competitors. That did not surprise Wendy at all. She knew that he's quite the smooth talker.
"He recently broke up with Fay so--"
Wendy grinned. "Serves him right. What kind of girl will stick to that jerk's side?" As far as Wendy know, Gareth has a very, very healthy appetite when it comes to sex. She watched him jump from one girlfriend to the next every single month if not week when they were in high school. He's a manwhore, plain and simple.
"Wendy!" Her mom yelled at her. She loves him alright and Gareth treated her with respect at the very beginning. That must be why. "That's not how to talk about your brother--"
"Step brother." She clarified once again.
There was an exasperated sigh from the other end of the line. "Just promise me you won't rub salt to his wounds if you both end up being here okay? He's already busy as it is and now with Fay gone, he must be broken hearted."
Broken hearted my ass, Wendy thought. She doubt he's ever fallen in love with anyone. That guy's only intention to women is sex. When she heard that he's dating the latest supermodel, Wendy knew that like any other, it would barely last a year. Fay is the longest he dated of them all though.
The call ended a few more minutes later. Her mother just had to tell her the latest gossip about her friends. Wendy loved her so much that even though she is not the slightest bit of interested about her friends getting Brazilian wax, she listened.
But maybe there's something to get from that call anyway. Perhaps it's time to give her stepbrother a taste of his own medicine.
"Where's Gareth?" Wendy asked. She had to know because she has a plan.
Sylvia waved a hand. She was busy working in the kitchen, cooking their dinner. "At the hotel."
"Is he coming?"
Her mother paused, looked at her for a good ten seconds before turning around to get some condiments. "What are you planning Wendy?" Oh boy, her tone told her she knew Wendy's up to something.
Wendy stared way the tiny little bubbles go up one by one at the surface of the glass. "Nothing." She lied.
"Wendy." It was a warning.
"It's nothing. Really." Wendy felt her mother's stare but she did not meet her gaze.
Sylvia shook her head. "You're never a good liar, sweetheart and I'm telling you now to stop whatever is running inside that pretty little head of yours."
Wendy eyed her mother. "Mom. Come on, you're no fun."
"I don't want you to get in trouble, Wendy. Whenever you're up to something, it's always you who takes the hard end."
"It's not entirely true--"
